There's a critical need for blood and platelets during this time. As much as I wanted to stay in…read morethe safe bubble of my home, this was the one thing I was willing to go out for. Garth Englund is located in a little unassuming strip mall with other UC Health buildings. I walked in through the front doors and was greeted by the intake, and every phlebotomist and nurse was wearing a mask. Hand sanitizer was plentiful. I got my intake sheet and sat 6 feet from the other donor that was there, then was taken in for blood pressure, history, finger prick and then moved to the donation room. They were sanitizing all the chairs, making sure all donors were at least 6 feet apart. The phlebotomist who took my donation was friendly and quick. After five minutes, I was done donating, wrapped up with the bandage tape color of my choice, and headed over to the snack station for a Rice Krispie treat, a free t-shirt that reads "Donor Strong" and a pair of Garth Englund branded socks. All in all, a quick and painless procedure, an extremely clean facility (it has been spotless on all of my previous visits, as well), and a gentle, caring staff. Be sure to take your time getting up out of the chair - some people react differently to giving a pint of blood, but the phlebotomist will never rush you!

While unassuming from the outside, the inside is spacious with several blood donation stations, offices, and a front desk area. The staff I worked with were kind and skilled, and I finished my blood donation in under 10 minutes.

I talked to TJ yesterday and he was really funny and good at what he does. The nurses here always follow up with me after a bad experience (pull being too fast, needle moved around too much, etc.). They provide me water and a snack after appointments like this, and have even called me around when I said I'd be home to see if I'm feeling better. You can't teach someone to care truly care about their clients like this, so it's amazing they hire people who are compassionate and just good. The only catch here is the wait time, but that's to be expected at any plasma center you go to. You wait when you donate plasma, blood, an organ, whatever. I don't mind it and I take the wait into consideration when scheduling my appointment time, which I am thankful people do here. I have been to other centers and even with a similar line, it takes significantly longer because they do not schedule staff according to how many people will be there, as they have no idea. Another thing: coupons are personalized and sent to your email now. If you are returning, you'll get one for extra pay after about 4 months. The staff was not able to tell me that. If you want to know specifics about pay- speak to a manager. The staff does not know about these things and has assumed and given me wrong information.

Instead of long wait times to get started, you can pretty much sign in and be seen within 5 minutes. The staff is incredibly friendly. Once you get settled, they're always checking in you to make sure that things are going well. I enjoy coming to BioLife Longmont and can see me continuing to do so for quite some time. If you're considering donating plasma, this is the place to go.

I made my appointment for 1 and they didn't see me until an hour later at 2. Not sure what the purpose of appointment slots is when they make you wait an hour to just check vitals. When i finally got saw the staff didn't seem to know what they were doing. The woman at the front desk had told me I didn't need proof of address because I was a lapse donor, then when I was seen the staff member told me I did need it. I told her what the previous member had said and it took 15 minutes of reseating and back and forth for them to finally take my vitals. After, I took the questionnaire and went to the waiting area for physical as they told me. Then I got intercepted and told to stand by the door (which i did) then the physician had told me I actually needed to sit in the chairs. I had been waiting 2.5 hours at this point for vitals and questionnaire, just for them to do the physical for a woman who had gotten there 40 minutes after me. (Not sure if their mistake in telling me to stand by the door then pushed me to the bottom of the line or what happened). I finally got saw after 3 hours, This was actually the worst experience I've ever had donating with disorganization, staff not seeming to know how to do their job, and waiting. I have donated at CSL before and Biolife and my previous time and biolife was better, However. The place seems to have gone downhill since then. Would not recommend donating here unless you want to wait 5 hours, be shuffled around by staff telling you different things, and see people arriving after you get to go first.

On the first try to make an appointment through the website there was a note saying they weren't accepting appointments but they would accept walk-ins. When I arrived at the storefront/office I was told they only accepted appointments, not walk-ins ?????? OK, I went home and tried the website again, selecting different dates until it would accept an appointment. Showed up 5 minutes before my appointment. An hour and 20 minutes later people with appointments earlier than me were still waiting. Technicians appeared to be available but no place to service the donors. I overhead a technician saying he needed a break for lunch...that was at 4:15P. Even though they take email-address/mobile number on the website when making the appointment, no one called/txt'd/emailed about running behind schedule. From the looks of the way the office was run, I'd guess this was a 'normal' day...stacking up the donors with multi-hour waits. I left. I'll try to donate through an organization that can match their capacity/throughput with their reservation system.
