Ok first of all, I hate the name. Also I can't ever remember it- I always think crab daddies. Memorial Day in Stonington is not as big as you might think- but thank you Cry Babies for being open. The menu may be the biggest you've ever seen. Mussels Clam Lobster Crab Cakes Prawns Service was 5/5 Our server was the sweetest woman and helped guide us with the intimidating menu Ambiance was 4/5 I was looking out at the harbor which is tough to beat. Someone also brought their dog in (super well behaved service dog so this is not a knock). No outdoor seating. Food 5/5 I didn't test the seafood but Uncle Bob did! He was originally going to get this cod special covered in lobster sauce but opted for something lighter.. or at least he thought! When I got the Most Interesting Reuben in the world (which was a Cuban Reuben, corned beef plus tender pork and ham), he opted to get a LOBSTER Rueben. The lobster was falling out of this thing - think it was a full ass lobster. 5/5 The most interesting Rueben was quite good. To give it a 4 would be dishonest. Side salad with vinegarette was good too. 5/5 I don't want to like this place but the food was excellent, as was our welcome. Can't give anything other than 5 stars for that. Stopped in on a hot Maine day, and to be fair, the place was cool inside and the service was solid. In fact, as we walked up, I think the owner was outside and said, "I've got the air conditioning going!" Honest to God, we should've known better right then. The food? Just awful. I had a lobster roll that was easily one of the worst I've ever had -- chewy, huge bland chunks, tasted a little fishy. Should've sent it back, but didn't. My beer came in the bottle, no glass -- not a dealbreaker, but it kind of set the tone for what ended up being a disappointing meal. The menu has about 550,000 items on it, which gave off big Cheesecake Factory vibes, except... nothing is actually good. My wife and I literally sat down and said, "Let's give it a chance." So hot outside, but wonderfully cool Inside. Seated right away, served drinks fast, but took over an hour for the hamburgers (it was NOT busy)! Onion rings were grease sogged , hamburgers were flavorless and tasted like they had been sitting there awhile. Food overall was cold. I've been living in Maine for a year and a half now. My wife and I tried Cry Babies on a whim and discovered a true gem. Hands down, the best restaurant food I've had yet. Clam Chowder and French Onion soups were amazing, with both including a side of homemade cornbread that was so good butter wasn't necessary. Then came the Reuben on marble rye. Phenomenal!!!! Took the visiting family sightseeing the Penobscot Peninsula, including a trek to the very end of Deer Isle to the charming town of Stonington. We had actually already chosen a restaurant to go to before hitting Stonington, thinking we wouldn't be able to find anything plant-based for us in this neck-of-the-woods; however, we fortuitously stumbled upon Cry Babies! What a surprisingly wonderful find!! The place is fairly new, having opened this past May. The façade is very inviting; the inside ambiance is bright, cheery and welcoming. Our waitress was super friendly and helpful to all our dietary requirements. Fortunately, their menu actually contains all-vegan options, so we were VERY grateful!!! (I do add pictures of non-vegan dishes that others ordered.) Everything was very leisurely, yet efficient and timely (food service and such). As the dishes arrived, you couldn't help but be gobsmacked at the portion sizes!!! (It's best to be REALLY hungry when coming here! Lol!!!) My burrito was very tasty; loaded with grilled veggies; they even "toasted" the tortilla perfectly! (I have to admit that I'm not normally a fan of bell peppers; however, all the ingredients went so well with each other.) YUM!!! Everyone LOVED their various orders, as well! An astounding failure at just about every turn. We went for the kids menu (which the kids loved to be fair) and promise of "the real deal" lobster rolls. Instead we got missing menu items, wrong menus, and slow, dismissive, service. I was shocked to realize this wasn't a chain restaurant trying to ape Bubba Gump Shrimp Company. Lobster rolls were large enough to split and had a $5 split charge added to them which would have been bearable had they not been inedible. Fishy lobster without any real dressing served with cucumbers, unripe tomato, and lettuce on a dry hoagie roll. When we mentioned why there were 3/4's of the lobster roll left on the table we were told no one had ever complained about them, yet the reviews here would suggest otherwise, and no offer of a refund was made. Huge plates. All food is good. The waffle fries are delicious, as is the cornbread. The menu is huge so there is something for everyone on it. We have dined in and had take out many times. I was there on Labor Day. It was somewhat busy. Service was incredibly slow. We got excuses as to why service was slow....basically it was a holiday and they didn't anticipate being busy. We waited about 15 minutes before being acknowledged. We waited over 45 minutes for our food. It was barely lukewarm. Someone in our party ordered a chowder. It has been sitting somewhere for a while. There was a layer of 'scum' that had formed on the top. Food is served immediately after being prepared doesn't get cold. I can't blame the kitchen on this. I can only blame the waitress and her lack of hustle and prioritizing her tables. There was another waitress all but jogging to take care of her tables. This waitress also used her bare hands to put lemon wedges in drinks. This is disgusting. She had been taking payments and taking food to tables. She also opened a couple take out containers multiple times to see what was in them. (The boxes were labeled so this was unnecessary and gross. ) I was horrified and won't be back. read more

My girlfriend and I recently tried this new food option in Stonington. Overall it was pretty tasty. The clam chowder with cornbread was excellent! Best thing we ate! Service was very good! I had crab cake sliders. The crab cakes were ok. Just very little seasoning and the buns were dried out. But not a deal breaker. She had the patty melt which was very good! The fries were on point. The food was hot and came out fast. I won't order the cole slaw again as it was totally tasteless and had no salt/seasoning. The bartender needs some training. My margarita was not very good but I drank it. So overall we enjoyed most of our food, the service was great and it's very inviting inside. We'll be going back and trying out more items on their giant menu. I hope they can pull off so many different dishes from so many different cuisines. Good luck. The food was absolutely phenomenal! Best clam chowder I have had in a long time ( better than Fisherman's Wharf in SF). We also enjoyed mussels, Ceasars salad and lobster sliders. All were fresh and incredibly delicious. But the service was just as great. Kim, our waitress, did an exemplary work and I think their chef ( or maybe a kitchen manager) was personally asking the patrons about their dining experience.
