Normally I'd change a flat tire myself, but figured it was worth a few bucks to not have to change…read moresaid tire on my narrow street. Called these guys and asked if they could do it for me, and they sent someone out right away. So far so good. Unfortunately the guys who came out were unable to get the tire off the car. I'm not a professional tire changer, but watching them kick at it with their feet trying to get it off didn't really fill me with confidence that I had made a good choice. After some minutes of kicking and fruitless wrenching, the tow guys seemed to agree that the tire was stuck. Do I want them to tow the car somewhere? No. Because I am convinced that anyone else may have been able to change the tire right there and I would not have to incur the additional cost of a tow. So I thanked the guys for coming out and giving it their best shot and asked how much I owed for the service call. When they told me $60, I was extremely dubious, but if there's one thing my mom taught me it is to never argue with an enormous man holding a lug wrench. So I paid my $60, and figured that's what insurance is for. This is where we move into one star review territory. I have been trying in vain for the past month and a half to get a receipt for the $60 service call from Rescue Towing. First, I was told to text them my address, and they would be happy to mail me the receipt. Then, after waiting a month with no sign of said receipt, I re-texted my request, and after not getting a reply, phoned back. The guy I spoke to seemed to remember me (as he should, since I have now texted him my info twice). He seemed to get why I was annoyed, but put the blame squarely on the tow truck guys. He explained that they are just guys he outsources to, and, anyway, he no longer works with them. I was not given a straight answer on whether or not I'd ever get my receipt (leaving me to assume I will not). Mr. Rescue Towing did, however, let me know that next time I needed a service call, it would be on him. A very kind offer, but, really, I don't need towing very often, and I expect that two years down the road (or whenever my next flat tire occurs), with nothing in writing to confirm my "free service call", he will have forgotten me. To be honest, even without the $60 charge for nothing and the inability to produce a receipt, the quality of service I received would probably lead me to call another service.
