My wife saw this place when we were going to Brobeck's and wanted to try it. So, I grabbed lunch there yesterday for us. She got a small Cowpoke salad and I got a regular The Lou plus a bowl of chili. The service was quick and efficient. The staff was great. There is no drive through so I went inside the well appointed restaurant to order. It was very clean and well organized. My wife and I both enjoyed our salads and the chili was truly delicious!! It will be a treat, because $40+ for lunch for two is not something we'd do frequently. In fairness, I ate half my salad and half the chili, so I will have it again for lunch today, which makes the price a little more reasonable.

What a cute spot!! Love the atmosphere and how clean the restaurant looks. Very up to date and modern. Menu has an extensive selection with good prices. I got the two for you and upgrade both items - I got the Yukon gold steakhouse flatbread and the pear is fire salad. Both were amazing and already craving them the next time I will be back. Since I upgraded - it ended up being $20.

Amazing salad. I mean the portion are great. I had a house salad. With a substitute of bacon for ham. The house made croutons and a chef kiss. It's made to look like buffet style you see everything they put in. The service is very fast and good place to go to unwind or if you work remotely.

My husband and I came here for lunch today, and my review is a bit mixed. I will begin with what I liked or enjoyed, if you will. My impressions of the customer service here is spot on. They were friendly, and gave me some space to decide and offered answers to any questions that I had about the menu. I enjoyed the combinations and special that are offered on particular days, such as the different soups. I ordered the "Welcome back Cobb," cute name btw, my husband ordered the "Southwest Chicken salad," which was a good choice for the slight letdown. Here I go with the disappointment. We both ordered the Friday soup special, which was the "Shrimp chowder" to pair as a pick two with our salad. The soup was corn chowder at best. I had asked the attendant before I ordered the soup how large the shrimp were inside the chowder, and he had showed me a normal size shrimp, not the small itsy bitsy size shrimp, such as in shrimp cocktail. The shrimp must have actually been smaller than that because our shrimp chowder had none, or they must have been microscopic. I may have had one that I chewed on, and my husband wasn't sure about his bowl. As I said that he chose the right salad to go with his chowder because what we had was mostly a Southwest chowder, and not shrimp chowder. However, I liked the southwest corn chowder soup, it just wasn't what we ordered. My husband really enjoyed his salad. I could have enjoyed mine had the bacon not been so rubbery.

What a good place to go to for quick healthy lunch. The service was quick and on top of taking care of people. I always get their Welcome Back Cobbler. Today I also tried their baked potato soup. I wasn't a fan of it because it seemed too watery. But definitely will be going back in the near future.

We were in the mood more a light lunch and wanted to try something new, so ended up at Crushed Red. The menu is pretty vast, and there is something for everyone. The Play Gloria salad was the star of the show, with a delicious cranberry poppyseed dressing. While the food tasted fresh and light, it was quite worth the cost. The folded flats fell apart more and more with each bite, and the bread itself splits immediately, making it difficult to work with. It is also quite expensive for what you get.

There's something really unique about this place that I like... There's an offering of a variety of different types of salads so you don't get bored. They also cater to a few other things and they do offer some alcoholic beverages which can pair nicely with the meal. I've always found that the Ingredients are nice and fresh, the atmosphere is never too loud, and everyone is quite accommodating service wise. My favorite part is that it's healthy but it's also very tasty which is a hard thing to find at times. I would highly recommend crushed red to anyone with an interest in healthy meals that are very taste were there. Five stars!

Another fabulous find while driving around Kansas! Very clean establishment. Everyone was very friendly, since we didn't know what we were doing. We ordered the soup and make your own pizza. The soups were delicious! I had the Butternut squash and my significant other had the loaded potato with bacon. The seasoning in both soups was spot on! We also created are own pizza. My suggestion. The soup is so filling, split a pizza! Although it is also fun to take home a few slices. Can't wait for our next trip to Kansas, this time soup and one of those fantastic looking salads.

    Shrimp pesto salad
    Raina M.

I stopped in while on work related business and the name kinda captured my curiosity. I had never heard of a restaurant that only catered to making salads, so I figured they must be some pretty good salads if that is thier specialty. Well I was wrong, because salads are not the only thing they make. Sandwiches and soups and other items are on the menu, but mostly salads. I love the location of this place. It's visible from the street, well lit and very easily accessible. You can't miss it and it's also near a traffic light intersection. Parking is ok, wish it were bigger. Lov the decor. It's spacious and has a romantic kinda vibe to it. Now the prices are a little steep for my liking, but I have to admit, my shrimp pesto salad was absolutely hoodoggie good. What I like most is the way your salad is prepared. They take the ingredients and hand mix the salad and use a salad chopper to chop big chunks of lettuce so that each bite is seasoned, and easily edible unlike many premade salads. Will definitely return

    So many options!

Decent option for dinner…read more I stopped by earlier this week on my first night in town, and sat at the end of the bar. The bartender served me a Guinness (on tap, of course!) and then recommended the Monday Steak Night special ($60) - a prix fixe option which included a salad plus one of four types of steak, sides, and dessert. I opted for the house salad (with sherry vinaigrette dressing), the hangar steak (he was selling it hard!), sautéed green beans, and lemon meringue pie. The house salad was superb, with delicious chunks of goat cheese! I also enjoyed the sautéed green beans, loaded with sliced almonds and fresh garlic. The hangar steak was probably the most disappointing, and solely responsible for this review not earning 5 stars. I took half of it to go along with half of the green beans. The lemon meringue pie looked delicious but I could not eat another bite, so that also went into a to-go container. Back in my hotel room that night, working late as I was jet lagged, I ate that pie. OMG! PURE HEAVEN!! And the main reason this review earned 4 stars! Will be back for the salad and green beans and pie! And some Guinness on tap, of course!!

Overpriced chicken, a stellar mushroom side, and an aggressive exit strategy…read more After some custom cocktails nearby, our famished group headed to Rye for some dinner and dessert. The space was nice and clean, but unfortunately, the service and the "famous" main course didn't quite deliver a stellar performance. Our table was split--some wanted dinner, some wanted dessert. This apparently threw our waiter into a state of deep existential confusion. The Food: I ordered their "famous" fried chicken, customizing it to three thighs (which came with homemade pickles and a fantastic ham gravy). For $24, it wasn't bad, but it's definitely not "famous" for flavor--maybe just famous for the price tag. Honestly, I could have filled up at Popeyes for a fraction of the cost. Surprisingly, the absolute star of my meal was the side of sautéed mushrooms. It came with little pearl onions, shallots, and green peas. I topped it with some of my friend's arugula to make it fancy, and it was delicious. The Service (or lack thereof): Here's where it went downhill. The dessert order became a saga. Those who ordered sweets expected them to arrive with the mains, but we had to ask several times just to get them toward the end of the meal. By the end, our waiter seemed completely frustrated with our existence. He aggressively boxed up the remaining desserts and semi-forcefully shoved the credit card machine into our faces to shuffle us out the door. Great mushrooms, aggressive math at the end. Proceed with caution.

I attended a bachelorette party dinner at Verbena recently and it was a fun excuse to check this…read moreplace out since it's been on my radar for quite some time. The first thing to note here is that Verbena is located inside the hotel at Meadowbrook and it's gorgeous. The hotel is picturesque, and the restaurant is no different. It's elegant, vibey in an upscale way, and has that kind of ambiance that makes you feel like it's worth it to spend a little money here - which spoiler alert- you will! Before dinner I do as I always do and surveyed the menu from home to see what sounds good and when I got there I stuck with my choices and ordered two drinks - one that had a tiki flair, and after their spin on an old fashioned. For dinner I chose their cauliflower entree. We will start with the drinks: no notes. I forget the names of what I had but the tiki inspired one had rum and it was honestly one of the better rum drinks I've had in some time. It was sweet but not overpowering and the rum was perfectly complimented. It was so good I had to switch drinks for round two because I knew I'd drink another one of these too fast! Thir riff on an old fashioned was excellent as well. These are honestly my barometer for a bartender as I make them at home all the time and I enjoy seeing how others take a classic and elevate it at a place like this. I knew it would be good when they asked if I wanted rye or bourbon, which was a thoughtful question. I went with bourbon and it was also excellent. Not too sweet and perfectly sippable. Now I'm going to get into why I'm rating it 4/5 and not 5/5 because it honestly could be 5/5. To be fair to Verbena I think this could be just due to the group I was with so I'll return sometime and see if I feel differently, but here is my one critique: the price point and the entree size. I eat out at nice places a fair amount and while I don't make it a regular occurance to pay $30+ for an entree, I do when I got out and I was planning on dropping some money here. What wasn't clear to me is that at dinner I think the set up here is meant for you to order a salad and then an entree to make a full meal. Or pair an entree with one of their other small plates to begin, sort of like Farina. The difference is when I went to Farina they were very clear about this at the start so our whole table all ordered a starter and then an entree and so forth - yes it was very pricey, but our expectations were set from the start. Now, this might have happened if it wasn't for our group. I was with a younger crowd and they all had been before and they all ordered salads as entrees - I'm not 25 anymore and not afraid to order a real meal (enter face palm here) so I ordered a standard entree and I expected at the price point (especially in the 'burbs) to be a more standard entree size. The cauliflower steak was honestly DIVINE - the flavors were perfect and loved every bite, but it was at the end of the day a $30 singular piece of cauliflower with some sauce and while it was great, I left hungry and even texted my husband that after spending around 80 dollars here I was going to probably pick up taco bell after this party was over. Now, again I'm going to reiterate that I was here with a group and the server did an excellent job of trying to meet everyone where they were at and I am probably 10 years older than most at the table so my expectations and life experience is just different. Verbena is an awesome spot and on my way home I was thinking about how I need to return for a happy hour to get more of those great drinks and try it out again. the tl;dr of this is if you go for dinner I'd order a salad and and entree - or ask them about how to best set up your meal. Plan to spend some money, and have fun. It's a really elegant spot in JOCO.

We were pretty close to the door, which wasn't ideal with how cold it was. They have a sort of vestibule outside but it's not fully enclosed so it does almost nothing to improve the blast of cold air when the door opens. I should preface this review with I liked the food but the service was a bit slow, however, I know fine dining service is a bit more leisurely, so I may be overly harsh on that front. Anyway, once we were seated, water came out right away. We then waited a while for the waiter to get our drink orders so I ordered the empanadas with our drinks (we were hungry). Empanadas came out quickly and were very tasty. Drinks were not quite as quick but were also very tasty. Then we waited a while for the waiter to come back to order our entrees. And at that point, I asked if we could have some bread. I saw a bunch of tables with bread but I think our waiter maybe forgot because most folks in his section didn't seem to have it. When that came out, I wanted to laugh. 2 small pieces of focaccia and a small piece of the other kind. 3 pieces of bread does not a bread basket make. He did offer to bring more but my boyfriend declined (What?!, but I didn't contradict him) so I can't fully complain about that. Once our mains came out, my complaints about the slower service and small bread portion were erased because good heavens the short rib was INCREDIBLE. So melt in your mouth and flavorful. Definitely some of the best short ribs I've had in my life. My boyfriend had some kind of dish with a butternut squash puree, mushrooms and cauliflower. His was very good too but perhaps a bit gravy with the salt. We did get our order for dessert in pretty quick and that was a great end to the meal. The passionfruit puree made it really bright tasting. TL;DR: really delicious food (4.5-4.75) but service pacing, and the blasts of cold air made it a 4. We would go back but I had a gift card, and I'm not sure I would have been as happy with the meal if we'd paid full price, if that makes sense.
