Got a couple treats from this shop a few weeks ago and thoroughly enjoyed myself…read more This place is located in a more residential part of Decatur. I was surprised to find it in the old Whisk'd location -- RIP to Whisk'd; I loved that restaurant. Street parking only but the street is quiet and it's easy to pop in and out. Inside there's a huge array of confections: classic chocolates like turtles, chocolate covered pretzels, marshmallows, etc., as well as fresh baked cookies and a somewhat startling amount of freeze dried candies. I know that's sort of having a moment right now, but WOW there was a lot of freeze dried stuff to choose from. I don't dislike it but I prefer chocolatey treats so I skirted around the big display. I came about 1.5 hours before closing and will admit the selection (other than freeze dried) was a little sparse. I'm glad they're not letting products go to waste, but in the future, definitely come early if you want to ensure you get everything. More than one customer asked/called in for something only to be turned away while I was shopping around. Of course, the holidays might also have something to do with very high demand. Anyway, I wound up leaving with two cookies (only about four varieties were available when I arrived -- I took a chocolate chip and a brown butter cookie), three chocolate covered pretzels, and one pecan turtle. The service was limited to being rung up at the cash register, but the employee was nice in our limited interaction. My husband and I enjoyed all the treats over the following days! The chocolate was smooth and rich on pretzels and pecans, the caramel chewy and satisfying. The pecans and pretzels were both crispy and fresh -- no problems with staleness here. The cookies were good, too, though perhaps a tiny touch oily. I liked the brown butter better but both were enjoyable! They're the perfect size to share. I'd definitely return here for sweets!

It has been years since I had been in Peggy Ann Bakery. Not on purpose, I just never go over that…read moreway. Yesterday I had to make asKtop at the yarn store and couldn't think of a better way to treat myself than with Peggy Ann's, Unfortunately, most of what I got was disappointing. I did start with my favorite - the smiley face buttercream icing sugar cookie. Really, the bottom sugar cookie is just acting as a vehicle for the nearly 1" tall circle of buttercream icing (it may be frosting - I honestly don't know the difference and, really, I don't care, all I know is that I can eat their buttercream with a spoon.) It took 3 days to actually get to the sugar cookie on the bottom. Along with the cookie, I bought just a bunch of random baked goods. I bought my husband an iced brownie which he didn't finish because it was just way too sweet. I bought one of my childhood favorites - a cream horn. This is coming from the person who ate straight butter cream for three days - the cream was so sweet it just overwhelmed the delicate horn. I ate the pastry which was delicious only after I scraped out the cream. I bought a blueberry scone for breakfast - nothing at all special. And finally, I got my husband a banana nut muffin. He said "taste this" - I don't know what was wrong with it but it was awful and we tossed it. Peggy Ann Bakery is known for their petit fours. Both my husband and my son's FIL said "huh, I don't know" when asked if they knew what a petit four was. If you're younger than 50, you might not know either, but these tiny cakes are a favorite at Southern showers and teas. I've really never known anyone who just ate them because they liked them but they do make you want to go "pinkies out" when you see them displayed on the table. I was really excited about my visit to Peggy Ann Bakery but now it just makes me sad - I spent $16 yet we threw away almost half of what I bought.

There's a lot packed into this small shop: chocolates, sweets, gelato, even macaron shaped pillows. We went with the basics. First, they have Lavazza coffee (score!). My caramel latte was delightful. Better half got one of their frozen coffee drinks and said it was delicious. Both drinks were sweet, but not to the point we were in a sugar coma. We also scored 6 macarons (don't judge) and a macaron cake. The macaron cake hit it out of the park--rose lychee for the win! The addition of fresh raspberries really balanced the sweetness, and this was an absolutely stellar dish. The assorted macarons were all delightful, though the basil/white chocolate was my favorite. The real winner was the service, kindly dishing out ample sweets to a crowd. Everyone seemed to be enjoying their job and was super helpful in helping us navigate all of the offerings. Packaging was sweet, simple, and a bit luxurious. Prices were a little high as others have mentioned, but I didn't find them off putting considering the products were lovely and not your usual sweet shop fare. Five star winner in my book.

The one at Four Mile Post had perfect macarons. I was expecting the same quality at this one. The two young ladies working were quick and friendly.
