Anyone can go there and join a free learn-to-row day which happens four or more times per year, and, the indoor rowing has free classes for newbies almost every week. They start out in a training barge and then progress to wide stable sculling boats called Zephyrs. The longer you are rowing the more you will progress until you are in a racing shell that is barely as wide as your bottom and moves like a waterbug on steroids.

About two weeks before the big day, we saw that the forecast called for showers throughout Memorial Day weekend, particularly the Sunday of our planned cruise. We monitored the weather and decided to make a decision closer to the day. Throughout the entire process of planning, Oliver was responsive, reliable, accommodating, and kind. On the morning of the trip, Oliver gave us multiple options and worked with us to make sure that we could cancel and get a full refund due to the inclement weather. The boat has different seating options - wooden benches and cushion seats without backrests. We reserved two of the cushioned areas and showed up ready to check in on time (they ask you to show up about 30 minutes before boarding to check in). You board at the dock just next to the bridge in Mystic, so it couldn't be more convenient if you're exploring Mystic for a day or a weekend. The Argia allows you to bring alcohol (wine and beer) on board (although they ask that you not bring large coolers - there's no room for them), so we brought a couple of bottles of wine bought from the great wine shop down the street. The sail is partly narrated. Our sail was two hours long, and the staff narrated for some of the sailing time - pointing out historic and interesting sites along the sail (islands with an interesting history, homes with interesting architecture, etc.). Between the gorgeous scenery, some narration of fun and interesting facts about Mystic and its harbor, the great wine we'd brought aboard, and great company - it was the perfect way to spend a couple of hours in Mystic. What a beautiful way to enjoy Mystic and its harbor!

Though it's a free ocean and an enjoyable fishery perhaps it would serve the fishery as a whole if you educate your customers regarding ediquette while fishing around other folks chasing false albacore and bonito. Please do not: 1. cut off other anglers who are slowly preparing an approach on a school of fish. 2. Please don't race over and jump on schools of fish, it only spooks them and they sound. 3. If another angler is hooked up please don't motor close to the boat hooked up where as they may cut off the hooked fish. Everyone wants to have a good time on the water but it's becoming not a good time. As a part of the community I would hope you would please pass on some sage advice to this new breed of angler. It would be much appreciated.

The staff were all genuinely happy to work despite the rainy day. I personally thought that I wouldn't make the tour as I am not phyisically fit. But the 1st 3 miles were a breeze because most of the time it is going downhill. Then we had brunch- there was an assortment of croissants, muffins, breakfast pastries, coffee, tea and juices. They also provided 2 tickets each/ person for alcohol. No one in our tour drank alcohol as it was too early. The second 3 miles of going back was a tiny bit hard because you are going uphill, but because you are enjoying yourselves too much- you wont even feel the pain. The staff kept on asking if we want our pictures taken. That was constant. You don't have to ask them. They will ask you. This is truly a good experience. I am so glad we did it.

It's kid-friendly, we got to stop at a picnic spot with a fire and beautiful views of the water and the Newport bridge. It was easy but exhilarating; definitely a unique experience and I highly recommend. We booked a week in advance. The check in process was seamless. The ride took about an hour and a half with the stop at the picnic spot (there were bathrooms too). There is a parking lot as well. Yes, we would definitely do it again!

I purchased it over the phone,…read moreand was told to call 24 hours before I wanted to pick it up because it was "still in storage, not yet unwrapped by the store", and they would need to retrieve it. When I found the same boat much closer to me I called them to cancel my order and they charged me a "restocking fee" for a boat that had not yet been brought into the shop, or unwrapped. The fee I had to pay, over $260, is the charge when someone buys a boat, takes it home, and then returns it. I can understand a small penalty for "making" them write up a sales slip, but this was excessive.
