We walked around for a good bit, reaching the waters edge, to touch the coolness and watch the bots on the waves. It was a peaceful time of day. Not too many folks out yet, but you could tell (it was a holiday weekend) that they'd be out in force soon. Kayaks and boats, water sports equipment is all for hire, this place is absolutely gorgeous.

The Forth Boat Tours trip, aboard the Forth Belle, leaves from Hawes Pier and takes you first towards the west, past the Forth Road Bridge, before turning around and heading towards the mouth of the Estuary and stopping at the stunning Inchcolm Island. You can choose to get off at Inchcolm (at a cost of £5 per adult which goes to Historic Scotland for access to the island) or to stay on board and return to Hawes Pier. If you choose to get off at Inchcolm Island, you have 90 minutes (not quite enough to thoroughly explore the Augustinian Abbey and world War II embattlements). Take a picnic if you do get off, as the only shop on the island does not sell drinks or food. Your boat trip is guided with an informative, interesting, and at times witty pre-recorded commentary. On our return from Inchcolm Island, the captain stopped the boat to give the passengers a chance to look out for seals that normall hang out on a cluster of rocks. The boat, an 83 ft saloon with outdoor seating at bow (uncovered) and stern (covered), and a fully enclosed, warm, saloon viewing area has toilets, and a bar/cafe. I am not the outdoor kind of gal, and since we had previously cruised by it on the previous tour- I didn't feel the need to leave the boat. I asked Sean if I could remain on board. He was very kind and said no problem and I was more than welcomed to remain. This hour was absolutely THE BEST PART of the tour! I had the privilege to see some of the Puffins fairly close just floating on the waves, while others were flying very fast in a huge group towards the island. It was a lovely sight to see. Sean was the perfect gentleman and patiently answered all of my questions. He gave me so much insight into various aspects of the tour, like the Puffins habits; fishing for lobster/mussels and the Staffa Boats. Plus, I asked him where I could purchase "local" wool yarn and he told me where to shop. The yarn I purchased was simply perfect and exactly what I was looking for. It was a glorious day, with the sun splitting the trees. Graeme got us settled in and started telling us about our day. He knew more about Scottish history than my entire family combined I think (we're all Scottish) He intertwined the history with songs that were sung by native artists that were relevant to the story & added in some jokes. We all had a wonderful day making our way up to Oban, taking stops for tea, sights, & finally lunch there. As we made our way back down to Glasgow the scenery just so impressive. You could hardly believe that it was real. The hills all had names and he explained why, this went the same about the lochs. Graeme also knew the Castles history and who had owned it through years . Boat tours leave from this pier and it is possibly to book them in advance. When I was passing by, the queue for the boat trip was long due to the large amount of tourists. From the pier, one can get remarkable views of the Rail Bridge, with the pier being almost being practically under the bridge. The Pier is not as dramatic as others and is quite bland, the only change it gets each year is the annual visit of the shows for the festival season.

I guess I now know why their buses are never full.The driver didn't stop at a few sites that we were supposed to see. He kept pulling over to let every single car pass him. It was almost like he could care less of what we saw or didn't see he just wanted to get this done and over with.This was the worst tour experience I've ever had. Then I contacted the company for a partial refund and they refused. They gave me all kinds of excuses. Along with the driver lying saying, there were no places to pull over, which was a big, fat lie. There was plenty of spots for him to pull over. He just had no interest.What bad business?

I only wish we had more time in Glencoe! I enjoyed going in February off-season - the snowcapped mountains were a beautiful aesthetic. Our tour guide Francis was phenomenal.
