Bretz RV and Marine is the single most untruthful, unreliable, deceptive, unethical, and…read moreunscrupulous dealership I have ever dealt with in 58 years of life. They use dishonest, deceptive, crooked, unorthodox, and vindictive methods. Once you give a down payment, they make you sign a form that you will lose it all if you do not continue to sign more forms. If, for instance, you pay $2,000 down and sign for a $16,000 loan for the remainder of the payment on a camper-trailer, they charge you around $24,000 when they take out the loan through their affiliated lending agency, Mountain America Credit Union. I was not unimpressed by Mountain America and was thinking about doing further business with them, but they had obviously heard many, MANY complains about Bretz RV loans, and if they are associated with such a dishonest, unreliable partner, I want nothing more to do with them.
Bretz sent me home with a new camper-trailer hooked up by their "professional staff" with no safety pin in the coupler latch, and/or without removing the trailer jack (with the big orange warning sticker) and, when I did a walk-around inspection after 50 highway miles later, I found out that they did not even know what a safety pin latch was but also that both ends of the sewer hose storage tube had lost their covers and the right side mounting bracket was broken all the way through and the tube was not even attached to the vehicle anymore!!! I found a safety pin in my truck, removed the jack stand foot, and cobbled the stinky slinky storage tube back onto the camper trailer frame with zip-ties I happened to have.
Getting basic warranty items fixed took at least a month and required multiple phone calls form me.There's a whole lot of tough shit in the paperwork. To buy a camper from Bretz, you have to fill out more paperwork than I did to enlist in the military or buy a home. There's so much paperwork, in fact, that they apparently can't afford to even print it all out as they also give you more on a thumb drive. But first, they make you pay a down payment on the rig, and, once you do that, they threaten to confiscate that from you if you do not sign further paperwork.
The tome of paperwork they did print out included one 5-page section where you have to initial some 24 separate statements that are all legal escape clauses for Bretz to weasel out on shit. Such as: "I understand that no verbal promises can be honored." A cynical person could read that as, "We outright lie to you." There's also stuff like waiving your right to a jury trial for any legal actions and signing away your right to a class action suit or arbitration related to your purchase in any away. I have to ask, if the dealer doesn't say or do a bunch of shifty, hinky shit to the customer on a regular basis, why is any of this even necessary in the standard contract?
There were other problems with the camper, the water heater, and the solar panel, but dealing with Bretz took so much time, money, travel, logistics, and effort that I eventually gave up on getting any advice, help, or repairs.
