At £20 per night for a tent in August Crows nest is pretty good value. Add to that the fact that hot showers are thrown in and that it has a reasonably priced shop, fish and chip shop, nice play area, licenced club and heated pool (which you have to pay to use) and it starts to look like a real find especially as it occupies a site between Scarborough and Filey with great views (weather permitting).
So, why only 3 stars?
Well, the club was a bit scruffy and lacking in comfort and, if you're camping, you like to have toilets and wash facilities reasonably close and here they are not, taking the children to shower or to the toilet or even washing up was just a little to far as nearly all the facilities seemed to be in the caravan section.
Personally I disliked the fact that our nearest drinking water outlet was in the rubbish enclosure and was surrounded by smelly rubbish.
On the day we left we went to wash up out plates etc and had to wait for the cleaners to clean the washing up area. Not a problem, I like clean! The problem was that 'cleaning' seemed to mean brushing dirt and waste food out of the entrance and leaving it there.
Better hygiene would definitely earn another star from me. read more
