Just returned from my first visit here. Managed to get our keys earlier than the stated 4pm check in time, was about 3:15. Caravan was a standard as we had dogs and we were in BS N6. Caravan was clean and decent. Previously led to believe needed to pay £10 for a quilt cover set but upon arrival found packs of them all over the place. Caravan had plenty of storage space.
After taking the dogs for a good run on the lovely big cliff top area (there is fencing blocking off the edge but i wouldn't trust it) we went off to explore. You need your pass or booking number to enter funworks, you've got arcades, burger king, papas pizza, mash and barrel, swimming pool and the two show rooms (one only seemed to have bingo on so that one wasn't explored, the other galaxy had a mixture of shows).
Galaxy was reasonable clean, personally i felt a bit small, could be jam packed in the height of the season. Entertainment at the night time started with DJ just before the first show at 6.30. Shows at first were typical kids shows and got more adult entertaining as the night went on. Between shows they had a disco which i found to be quite monotonous but the 2 year old enjoyed it. I definitely felt sorry for the entertainers or blue coats who worked there, there only seemed to be a few and they always seemed to be there. There seemed to be a lot for them to do and also having to take on other responsibilities like stopping peoples children from running on stage as they were too busy drinking to watch their own children, but that's stories for another time.
That night in the caravan i found we needed two quilts to keep us warm, the weather was horrendous. Would definitely recommend switching the fire on whenever you are in the caravan during times of not so desireable weather.
I found the weather made trips out quite restricting, not havens fault but i did find entertainment for my 2 year old on resort was quite limited. Not that many shows on during the day for his age. Swimming pool was ok, quite small so that only took up an hour. They do have the water slides but my son had to go down himself so he wasn't too keen on that, or i for that matter.
We visited the beach one day when the weather was nice, just a 5 minute drive and managed to get parked in the free bays. It was a nice walk and even nicer when we got down onto the beach where we could let the dogs off. Another day we visited the sea life centre, again a short drive into scarborough. Found it quite expensive but for obvious reasons, thankfully i had a voucher to get one person in free. There are tesco stores just down the road which can be cheaper than the onsite spar (which wasn't too badly priced considering where it was). Back to Haven itself, the caravan tv did have a dvd player so if you have young ones it may be worth taking a few dvds for when the weather will drown you as you step out the door. I did purchase a couple at spar which were only £5.99, wasn't too bad.
Onsite security had me slightly worried, you can actually come and go as you please, no one watches the entrance. You have to show your passes as you go into funworks but when masses go in together it could easily be bypassed.
As we were leaving there were lots of news reports about burglars into caravans of a site down the road, i wouldn't be too surprised if this site ended up having problems like that.
My son did the bike class, didn't think we would have to pay for it but turned out to be £6. It was a nice little class, my son enjoyed it but price is a little steep.
Overall it isn't the worst holiday destination, i think it would be better if there was more to do for the youngsters especially when the weather isn't nice and you can't get out of the site. Caravan was adequate enough for how cheaply we got it. We had an hour and a half of no electricity but after a couple of calls they guys were out fixing it. read more
