From the moment you walk in, you're met with positive energy and genuine encouragement. Peers uplift each other, cheer each other on, and admire one another's progress. It's rare to find a space where ambition is so deeply rooted across all ages, yet balanced so beautifully with support and camaraderie. The studio itself is spacious and thoughtfully designed, especially considering that it's one of the few in the area without a large beam awkwardly planted in the center of the floor. That means you get the freedom to move, spin, and perform routines without restriction. What makes Lai Lai even more special is its story. This locally owned family business was born from the grandmother's love for ballroom dance. That love blossomed into a sanctuary where people of all walks of life could come together to learn, grow, and share in that same joy. You can feel her spirit and legacy in every corner of the studio. To this day I believe she still dances occasionally. If you're even remotely curious about joining this beautiful dance family, I highly recommend attending one of their events. They host fantastic showcases that highlight both student and instructor performances just to see what you're getting yourself into. I am an educator and professional dancer with decades of experience, and I came seeking quality training. Unfortunately, what I encountered was a deeply troubling environment. The instructor I worked with, Julia Ortega, repeatedly failed to provide structured, technical ballet instruction during private sessions. Instead, she used the time I paid for, more than $6,500 total, to gossip about colleagues and other dancers. She also made repeated racially charged remarks, including derogatory comments about Black women such as Michelle Obama and me. One of the most dangerous incidents occurred when I was deliberately locked inside PDT's alarmed building. My shoes were moved to an office to make it appear I had left. This act placed me at physical risk, and when reported to the Pasadena Police Department, a report was taken without an arrest. I believe this reflects the broader racial bias and institutional neglect that occurred at PDT. I later learned internal staff dismissed my formal complaint with the note: 'Snooze and ignore.' Pattern of Peer Hostility and Complicity: There was a consistent atmosphere of peer hostility during classes. A woman named Kathy frequently belittled me, even announcing in front of others that fishnet tights are 'slutty', an apparent attempt to shame and humiliate. This behavior spanned years, including previous experiences at the Pasadena Conservatory of Dance. Despite my visible technical progress, regularly acknowledged by others, this hostility persisted and was ignored by instructors. Instructor Julia Ortega, instead of maintaining professional standards, appeared to absorb the toxic energy of the group. Her behavior toward me deteriorated, even though I was paying her for private sessions and supported her personally with gifts and supplements. She treated me with contempt and ultimately placed me in physical danger without remorse. PDT's leadership, including Ashleigh Doede, did not address any part of this misconduct, even when directly notified. Pasadena Dance Theatre may appear to offer professional training, but the experience I received was unsafe, unethical, and racially hostile. I do not recommend this school to anyone seeking legitimate ballet instruction or respectful treatment. The organization lacks the artistic integrity and human decency necessary to represent ballet as a fine art.

My daughter Dahlia has been dancing with Unbound Dance Studio since she was 5 yrs old (She will be…read more12 next month). She absolutely loves it!!! She began taking one class a week and now she takes three classes a week (plus she participates in the Dance Studio's STEP class which puts her as a helper with the younger dancers). What I like about the classes is the smaller size (number of students) per class that gives the extra support and attention to the dancers. The location is very convenient for us and the schedule fits well. The instructors are all very attentive, nurturing, caring but most importantly supportive of all dance abilities. When Dahlia turned 8 yrs old I was able to rent the studio for a couple of hours and have some private dance lessons for Dahlias list of invited friends. We were allowed snacks and refreshments and the Birthday party was very successful for Dahlia and her guest. Finally, what I feel makes this all worthwhile, is the quality of performances that the studio and their team of instructors put on. Not only at the end of their sessions (beginning of Summer) but also their holiday program (The Nutcracker). From the smallest (youngest) dancers that obviously steal the show to the older girls (which now include mine)... WOW!!! Very impressive is all I can say. In the four years that I have watched them perform they have never disappointed. I almost forgot to mention the participation in the Disneyland Holiday Parade last year. What an experience that was for my daughter and the pride I felt watching her perform at Disneyland. I highly recommend Unbound Dance Studios for the beginning dancer, intermediate dancer, or more experienced dancer. Ms. Betsy and her crew definitely know what they are doing.

She help me build up my confidence and make sure I don't feel left out since I don't speak Chinese. The studio is very cute, has variety of genres as Hiphop, Kpop, breaking, popping,.. and more! They also have private class which you can choose the song you'd like to dance with. Highly reccommend this studio if you love dancing even if you're shy or not good, no one judges or bring you down for it. They are supportive like a family so come for experience at least LOVE

I called and spoke with Alessia and she was very patience answering to all my questions. We are interested in learning ballroom dance and she said we can tell her what we wanna learn at the time of the lesson. The location we went was 121 Weaverly in Pasadena. The location was easy to find (10 mins walking distance from old Pasdena town) and my mom chose to learn Waltz. Alessia was our instructor and she was trying to teach us as much as she can within the hour time. She was nice, professional, and patience with all of us. It was a very pleasant experience for all of us.

She responded promptly to emails and texts and was willing to work with our busy schedules to coordinate lesson times. Evelyn totally blew us away in what she was able to teach us in just one lesson!
