Its been 6 years or more since I've danced at Li's, but ballet training here will galvanize you into all aspects of dance. Li is strict, but over the years it seems as though she's loosened her grip. She teaches in broken English and is a native Mandarin speaker, but if you are serious about buildling a solid foundation in ballet, don't let the language barrier put you off. I took private lessons as well as group lessons. She had rather unorthodox ways of doing flexibility exercises. Questionable tactics, really, and I wonder if she uses them today. Students begin on ballet shoes and progress to pointe. Many students compete in shows such as Showstopper and all students perform in at least one annual recital. We brought our 7-year-old daughter here expecting a positive experience where she could learn, have fun, and feel welcomed. Instead, she left sad, disappointed, and feeling discouraged. We were given information regarding the studio's hours and the class that was not accurate. Based on the information we were given, we made arrangements and went out of our way to make this work for our daughter. We also purchased the studio's required clothing and dance shoes, which we did. We spent the money because we trusted that we were being given accurate information and that our daughter would be properly accommodated in the class. Unfortunately, that was not our experience. What is even more upsetting is how the situation was handled--or rather, not handled--afterward. The owner was made aware of our concerns, yet never bothered to follow up with us. Not even a phone call or message to check on what happened or to see how our daughter was doing. As a parent, watching your 7-year-old walk away from an activity she was supposed to enjoy feeling sad and disappointed is unacceptable. Businesses that work with children should understand that this isn't simply about a class or a purchase. There is a child and a family on the other side of that transaction. I've done both strength training and boxing here, and the trainers are excellent. They're knowledgeable, attentive, and make the environment welcoming regardless of your fitness level. When I first started I was out of shape, with nagging injuries. They worked around the injuries and helped get me in shape. The facility has both indoor and outdoor training areas, plus great parking, which is always a bonus. Great owners, great trainers, and a great overall experience. Highly recommended.
