I've had two bonfires here and had a blast at each. As Isa said, it's all about what you bring to the beach. Get a buncha palettes or scrap wood (from Home Depot, Dixieland, etc.), bring some beach toys, a buncha chairs, a bbq, and *layers*. It gets cold quickly come nightfall. Parking is good but fills up on the weekends. As do the firepits, so if you want one, get here early (like, in the AM for an evening bonfire). Dogs are allowed, as long as they're on a leash. I believe. Oh, and don't forget to bring booze, of course. But no glass containers. Party cups are key here. And over the summer, stay late enough and you can watch the fireworks at SeaWorld! I live two blocks from Crown Point Bay Park and it's my favorite place to walk. I take my dog there every day. It's not crowded, especially in the winter, plenty of parking, a nice playground and several fire pits. It's beautiful. If you're looking for a nice family day, picnic spot or Bon fire spot, I definitely recommend it. There's also a nice coffee spot across the street, Crown Point coffee! read more

Crown Point is a great place to park for some beach running. There are plenty of parking spaces and it is a quick jaunt to get on the sand. I usually run from here to Santa Clara Point, wrapping around Sail Bay... this equates to a 5 or 6 mile round trip run depending on your start/end point. There is typically a lot of activity along the beach so for those with running ADD like myself, the distraction helps me focus on something other than my calves and quads burning. Be sure to check the tide schedule and adjust your run time accordingly... high tide puts you in soft quicksand, which makes for a challenging run. read more

One of the best places in San Diego to organize a big gathering with friends in a comfortable, friendly environment, especially in a very warm day. I don't like during the cloudy days before you need to bring a jacket and when windy, all your food end up flying. I went again on Saturday for the farewell of an Italian friend. She could not have chosen a best spot: the farthest area of Crown Point, under the shadow of a huge tree, a panorama of San Diego downtown skyline and plenty of sun. And, very important, very close by restrooms. Every table has trash cans next to them and everything seems to be very organized and well controlled and preserved. Is a wonderful area for picnics and BBQs (we brought our own) and having a mellow day when there is not too crowded. In that case, I advise you to stay away of too many people playing games, kids screaming, smelling BBQs from others and no space to breathe. This is definitely a neat spot to hold family bbq's or if you just want to get out in the water for a minute. Clean park, spacious, and literally a walk over to the beach from the park area. Basketball court located on site if you wanna ball up, and a playground for the kids if you want to keep them active. What I really enjoyed was the fantastic scenery of San Diego. You can see downtown and all the way across to the other side of town from here. read more

Great place for summer bon fires. Crown point is a long stretch of coast line around mission bay with grass, sand, picnic benches, fite pits, and some bathrooms too. I go for the fire spinning nights every wednesday to practice my hoop skills with the local burners. Day time activities include kite flying, jet skiing, wake boarding, and day bbqs. Come during the summer nights and watch the seaworld fireworks and 9:50 pm sharp! Weekends can generate some traffic since SD beaches and bays are a socal hot spot so get there early. Whats not too like about this place? Anyone remember floatapalooza?? Probably my all time favorite memories at the bay. The only downside is the water quality is a little bit disgusting. Just keep your mouth closed while you go under and you will be just peachy! Lol read more

While Crown Point isn't my front yard, it's pretty close. I came to SD when I was 8 and didn't know how to ride a bike. So my parents took me to the top of Mount Crown Point (that 3-foot tall hill) to cast down, thinking that the breakneck speed I would accumulate would actually help me balance. Let it be known that I ate so much shit that day I felt like I was bobbing for mushrooms. I have some great memories, a lot of good memories, and zero bad memories here. The beach booze ban has really helped out the night scene, because local wanna be thugs and winos would congregate down in the park, but that seems to be much better now. A year ago you wouldn't want to go walking around down there by yourself, esp if you were a girl, but it's loads better. The bonfires just down to the south are awesome, as are the Sea World fireworks...Driving to and from work (or anywhere else for that matter) on C P Dr is a nice way to start the day / wind the day up. (Do mind the speed trap there though on some mornings - 30mph isn't very fast). There are fields for soccer and volleyball, beaches for bocce and kickin it, bonfires for friends, bbqs for...bbqs. and enough space to allow everyone to enjoy themselves. And the jogging path is DOPE. Great way to start the morning. read more

This is such a great part of San Diego. I come running here all the time, and love it for the smooth, wide path with mile markers, cool breezes, and lovely view of the bay. There are so many things you can do here... there's no excuse not to get out and enjoy the sunshine! The area is well maintained-- there is beach area all around the bay, as well as plenty of grassy areas for playing games, having picnics, hanging out, you name it. Public restrooms are decent for beach restrooms, there are water fountains available, fire pits for bbq's, picnic tables, basketball courts, etc. Plenty of parking FTW! read more

Crown Point is a great place for outdoor gatherings. It's located in Mission Bay / on the edge of PB so it's relatively easy to find. When you arrive, there's a large parking lot. I've never had trouble finding parking. Which is great because parking is usually not easy to come by anywhere near PB. They have picnic tables, fire pits, and public restrooms. For restrooms at the beach, these are relatively clean. If you're planning for an evening gathering, especially on a weekend, you should go early. I can't emphasize this enough - I've tried to go at 6pm and all the fire pits were already taken. So if you're able to get a spot, Crown Point is fantastic. It's my favorite place for beach bonfires. And if you're there on a weekend, you can see the Sea World fireworks clear as day. One thing to note is that this is still a public beach so no drinking is allowed - I have seen people be ticketed before for alcohol. read more

This place is the BEST spot in San Diego to watch the Seaworld fireworks. You can either watch from the bay or even the parking lot as amazing views. On a clear day, you can even see downtown San Diego in the distance. I have had numerous picnics at this park and they have always been pleasant. It gets kinda crowded during the summer weekends so get there early. One problem I noticed, but can't really change, is the wind factor. Since it is located on the bay, the wind flows right through from the ocean. So remember to being a jacket!! There are also basketball courts and restrooms for your convenience. Never been in the restrooms but I'm guessing they're like any other standard park restroom. Stinky... Lol Even if im not actually visiting the park, I love taking the road nearby just I soak in the view. read more

Great park, beach is kid friendly with no current or waves. The restrooms are horrible, dirty with toilet paper all over the stalls. The restrooms need a washdown followed by Fabuloso! They stink. There is plenty of parking, benches, sidewalks, grassy areas, and pavilions. Great weather and views of the boats going by. Avoid the restrooms, they are in shameful condition! read more

This place was awesome for a bonfire! It did not get too crowded ever, there are trashcans everywhere so there's no excuse to be dirty, and there is a copious amount of space everywhere you look. You can bring your own chairs to sit by the water but there are also tables and benches. Come prepared though! Bring a few extra trash bags to keep close to your group, a cooler for your stuff, and maybe some wet wipes and disinfectant wipes if you're a germ freak. You get a great clear sky for the Sea World fireworks too! Which is normally from 9:50-10:00pm. read more

This is one of the few places during the summer where there are bonfire pits still available. Awesome spot to watch the Sea World fireworks too. Any of the spots around the bay are always great, especially when the weather is perfect. It has a great combo of grass and sand. The bay area is awesome for water sports: Paddle Boarding, Kayaking, etc. In late August my cousin was able to pull up into the area around 4:30PM to save us a pit. He wanted and saw 2 left. When he walked back to the car to grab his stuff, there was only ONE left! the spots can literally be taken without notice! So it's good to go and try to save a spot, but you don't have to go as early as you would at the beach (I.E. La Jolla, Coronado and Mission Beach!) read more

Clean parks, police always passing by to make sure things are safe, great shallow waters for kids and not too choppy for paddleboarding, firepits, perfect spot to watch Sea World's Summer Nights fireworks (the way the fireworks reflect off the water, uhmaze), plenty of grassy area for a quick soccer or football game with friends and family. Crown point is one of the few things I love about PB.....Rockys is on that list too :) I was fortunate enough to live in Crown Point for 7 years. I reminisce those days when I lived on CP drive and could watch the Sea World firework show from my bed or the balcony. Great place to live if you want to live close to the water but stay out of the crazy PB scene. I would jump on my beach cruiser or go for a run at the drop of a hat. The park it self is perfect for a picnic with plenty of grass, picnic benches, fire pits, play areas for the kiddos. On the south end there is a sandy area where they also have fire pits and is where you would find me most of the time playing "Over the Line". For those that don't know the pathway that starts in crown point actually ends in South mission and is a great place to jog, walk, ride bikes etc. You can also find a couple places to eat (Rockys), coffee shop, liquor stores, salon and a gas station. Enough to get you by without having to go into PB. Believe me I know :) Crown Point....just a great place to live or just have fun and unwind. read more

this is one of my favorite places in ALL of San Diego. i dare you....nay....i double dog dare you to show me another place in this city where you can go & do practically every single outdoor activity you can think of. this flat trail hugs mission bay for the entire 3 1/2 miles you're on it. the trail starts on the east side of the bay & ends about a block away from belmont park & the big dipper roller coaster. let me do my best to paint a picture of what a typical run or walk or bike or rollerblade or stroll around this trail might look like. Start to 3/4 miles. the east side of the park is where the party gets going - literally. there are a large number of picnic tables, shelters, barbecue grills that get claimed quickly by family get-togethers, birthday parties, & other celebrations. plenty of grass area as well for: football, throwing the baseball around, frisbee, dogs, & picnics among other things. also in the distance is an amazing view of the city skyline. there's a basketball court, 2 separate restrooms, & a limited amount of bonfire pits (come early to claim yours, especially during the summer nights). you can also fish & swim. TIP: during the summer, you can sit on the small grass hill area facing Sea World, which is across the water. wait until about 930pm for their fireworks show & you can actually watch it for FREE! 3/4 miles to 2 miles the 3/4 mile marker is actually one of my favorite parts of this trail. once you start going underneath the ingraham street bridge, you start running against the wind. come here in the late afternoon & you are treated to an amazing sunset that creates these crazy-beautiful colors that illuminate the bay & its surroundings (almost reminds me of waikiki). theres also a stretch of sand where "stranded" sail boats make their homes, but adds a little touch to the already calm, relaxing ambiance & scenery of the area. this side is where the uber-expensive condos & apartments start (where you can ALWAYS catch a few BBQs or college parties going on). this stretch is also where the volleyball nets are set up. theres a small playground for small children & restrooms by the 1 3/4 mile marker. 2 miles to 2 1/4 miles theres a LOT goin on around the 2 1/4 mile marker. there's a small stand where you can rent bikes, paddle boats, & other items you can use to enhance your experience on the water or the sand. you also pass the back of the Catamaran Hotel. when you pass here, youre almost guaranteed to witness a wedding ceremony, a wedding reception, or some other fancy party the hotel is putting on. 2 1/4 miles to Finish this is the "quieter" side of the bay. an endless string of vacation rental beach homes! pick your favorite & jot down the number to find out the extraordinary nightly rates! you can also be a peeping tom by watching people inside/outside their homes grilling, preparing their meals, cooking, smoking, drinking, & enjoying the good life! you'll see people playing horseshoes, water fights, tanning, or just taking naps on the sand. if you get tired of the trail, there are a number of street outlets that will bring you to mission beach & the ocean. otherwise, turn around & start heading back to your car! theres always parking here, & you will always see/meet a diverse range of people. sports, eye candy, recreation, sand, water, playgrounds, restrooms, beautiful scenery, eye candy, sunsets, weddings, eye candy, picnic tables, bonfires, rentals, beaches, fireworks, and eye candy! what else do you want?! Crown Point has a beautiful view being right on Mission Bay by the protected estuary. There is a lot of space with some tables and coverings, and a good amount of parking. it should be no surprise then that lots of people would come here then, as a result, the place is busy and crowded but its to be expected, on a summer day the more the merrier! As a result though the place does feel a little worn. Still, they have one of the more rare things on San Diego Beach nowadays...fire pits! Don't know how much longer that is gonna last, enjoy it while you can! read more

Exercising outdoors is the only way to go. The fresh air and the sun are said to raise you inner Chi and you don't get this from being in the fluorescent light filled gym. The 7 mile pathway starting and ending at Crown Point is a great place to liven up your inner you! The run is flat, you have the cool breeze off of the bay and later in the day, you can catch a great sunset as you get your heart rate up. They have a couple water fountains along the way too, for those of us that can't run with an item in our hands. Just let the water flow for a handful of seconds before you drink. Not sure of the "after hour" visitors to the park. I will say that some times you can get a pretty bad whiff of the sewage that they dump in the bay and your occasional dead sea animal along the shore but hey, it can't always be serene, right? You can bring your dog with you for a run here but I know there are certain hours you are supposed to have them at. There aren't life guards on this side so, I bring my pooch when I can get there. I figure on the off chance that I do get stopped for it, "I am sorry, I guess I didn't realize there were time frames". Smile, it usually works for minor law breaking. We live in SD, people! We pay for it, we should go out and use it! read more

Crown Point is pretty much the perfect spot in San Diego to just be mellow and enjoy a day. You've got water, grass, grills, tables, sand, fire pits, and bike paths. There is plenty of room to spread out and play catch or do whatever you want to do. An absolutely stunning view of the fireworks from Sea World and Petco Park await those who decide to bonfire here. There is a hill that overlooks the entire park situated above the sand and fire pits. There are bathrooms and a basketball court within close walking distance of the hill. The tide gets low here, so if you plan on fishing or paddle boarding during the day it's a pretty nice calm spot. Fishing from the shoreline, expect to catch an ample amount of small bat rays and also stingrays. We also pulled up a couple non legal sand bass. Kinda cool when you have the pole in the water just for fun. I do not like the fact that you cannot drive your truck up to the pit, you have to park in the lot and walk your wood up and over the grass and then down to the sand. Another great feature of this park is that it is one side street away from Garnet, so if you need a Vons or something while you are picnicking at the park it isn't far away in case you forgot something. I recommend this spot to any and all beach goers in search of a place to have a gathering with a fire and some good friends! read more

I love coming here on my lunch breaks for some fresh air. It is never really busy during the week at lunch time. One of these days I'd like to come back out to walk the path. I love this park. I take my dog there all the time. We are planning awedding on a budget and are having a family bbq reception here, you can rent out the 4 concrete gazebo things or $20 an hour, which is what were doing. There's sand, grass, big trees, play structure, swings, bathrooms, a lifeguard, firepits.. just no BBQ's :( read more

I usually head to Crown Point to go for a bike ride or walk around the bay on the 3 1/2 mile trail that runs next to the bay all the way over to Belmont Park but there are also are large grassy areas where you a just sit and watch the world go by or maybe you can get a game of OTL going in the large sandy area next to park . You can also meet up with some friends and have a bonfire in one of the fire pits that line the bay. Crown point has a little something for every one. No matter what your in to. read more

The only place that I think I could stand living in PB. The place is always quite, there is always parking, and there is A LOT less druckerds (besides myself) around! You can be near the bay, freeway, Rocky's, and Crest. You never have to leave if you don't want to!!! Also during the summer you get a free fireworks show every night from sea world BOOM. read more
