Asked the waiter if we could order another round of drinks at the table to be told he'd asked his manager and that we could only order at the bar. Having empty glasses I left my food to get some drinks at the bar. The manager that made that decision could see me waiting however continued to have a conversation with a punter across the room for a further 10 minutes, when he eventually came over I mentioned I'd been waiting a while to which he accused me of being rude making everyone there look up! I insisted that I only mentioned I'd been waiting a while and I am annoyed because he wasn't working he was just chatting and that my food had now gone cold, all because we wanted another drink. This manager should not be in this role. Very unprofessional and overall a very unpleasant experience. Avoid if you don't like to be spoken to like dirt!!

If people-watching and historical interest are your thing, then The George Hotel (formerly The…read moreGeorge Inn) is a good place to go. Right smack-bang in the middle of town ocerlooking the Market Place, this Inn has been here for centuries. Nowadays it's a modern hotel (with some private parking) and bar/restaurant for non-residents and residents alike. It's got a couple of claims to fame. Firstly, back when the Abolition of Slavery was making it's cause felt there was a meeting called by local Abolitionists to be held in the George on Thursday 3rd february 1826 - at 11 o'clock. Various local 'names' were on this list such as the Sheppard family, a weathy mob who lived locally and have a street named after them. Although.. it has to be said that given the preponderance and strength of local beer and scrumpy cider then after half a dozen pints of local rot-gut they'd have completely forgotten what they were holding a meeting about in the first place. Ever likely abolition took so long to happen. Blame Frome The George being a gathering place for political radicals of many sorts, of their day, the second little claim to fame is that it was one of the original places where unruly protesters were literally 'read the Riot Act' from the balcony of the building. A framed copy of the Riot Act in it's entirety hangs in the main bar. Back to the present, the food in the restaurant is good quality if pretty basic, reasonable prices too. The beers are fairly middle-of-the road with several guest beers appearing from time to time. Good to call in for morning coffee or lunchtime drink with a snack and watch the world go by.

It is…read morepart of the soho house group although non members are able to stay on certain days of the week. The grounds are beautiful and well Kempton, definitely would suggest a walk in the walled flower garden! There is an on-site spa 'the Cowshed' which offers a range of treatments from massage and facials to manicures and waxing, as well as full use of the indoor and outdoor heated pool, sauna and steam room. There is a large dining room as well as a bar, games room and multiple smaller lounge areas for guests to relax in. I found the staff to be overall very friendly and welcoming. Negatives - service was at times a little slow especially at breakfast. At no point during my stay were there any hand towels in bathroom in the main house which means either they were not restocked at all or they need to be restocked more often. Overall, me and my friends had a great time and it was the perfect place for a relax and catch up. Sue.

I wonder, would it be cost effective to sell my house and just live here for the rest of my life?…read moreCould I do that? That would be just perfect. Babbington House is part of the Soho House group, and swanky it is too. Doesn't come across as pretentious though. Small and cosy lounge rooms, dining room in the orangerie, indoor and outdoor pool, gym and the birthplace of Cowshed cosmetics means there is an amazing spa on site too with a huge range of treatments. Attention to detail seems to be a value above all others here, everything is perfect, everything is manicured, everything is worked hard to make it look like effortless luxury. It is so tranquil, even though there were obviously a large number of people there judging by the number of cars in the car park. I have no idea where they all were but everywhere we went we were alone, which was fine by us. All rooms have unlimited Cowshed products to use and test (for sale at the shop of course) and this was a nice touch. It is pricey, but is definitely one of those places where not a penny spent is regretted, and you are likely to crave the opportunity to return and spend more money.

We had 85 day guest and about 170 in the evening guest. We had all the whole house for ourselves including all the rooms fille and pre paid bar which carried on all night. We heard rumors they would run out but they certainly didnt. The food and drinks were great apart from the lamb being a bit too fatty and hardly no meat. But wouldnt mark it down for that as tasted beautiful. We had fireworks refered by orchardeligh which went down great with our guests. And we also stayed the night before in the cottages on site which was lovely. The whole weekend was amazing for us! From one Happy newly wed couple.

Stunning grounds, beautiful old house, great attention to detail in the decorand above all, wonderful service, staff and organisation. They cater for receptions from about 50 to 144, they have on site accommodation for about 120, loads of parking, a golf course, a pretty church on an island with no electricity so it has to be lit by candlesneed I go on? I will anyway civil ceremonies are held in the 'Great Hall' in front of a huge romantic fireplace (not sure how a fireplace can be romantic but I guess on your wedding day, anything can happen). This means the aisle is a little narrow to walk down, but it was cosy and we had no problems with it. They have two reception rooms connected by a wide archway for the wedding breakfast/buffet or entertainment; The Ballroom and The Blueroom. Each stunning and opulent. They only charged £5 corkage per person rather than an amount per bottle (which saved us thousands!) and the food was delicious (although my dress didn't allow much room for me to take advantage of it!). My new husband and I stayed in the 'penthouse' cottage - called the Bell Tower - for two nights. They have a village of cottages just a two minute walk from the main house. We put all our younger friends in these and several stayed an extra night for a relaxed Sunday eating pizza and singing karaoke. I can't recommend this place enough.
