Let me begin by saying that I have read review after review on all of the tailors in the Royal Oak and Birmingham area. There was something about the outstanding reviews of Crown Custom Clothing that drew me in. I decided to bring a bridesmaid dress here that was probably 2 1/2 sizes too big. The dress is strapless and had a mini train that I wanted cut to match the rest of the dress length. When we first got there, Mohammad wasn't there so I started to get nervous with the other worker. He was trying to pin the dress to fit me and it just wasn't working out. I could tell he was getting frustrated with pins popping out everywhere and it seemed that he didn't work much with dresses. He ended up calling Mohammad and put him on the phone with me. Mohammad said that he was on his way and would be there shortly to take care of everything. The minute he walked in the door I felt at ease. You could just tell he knew what he was doing. He also gave me a discount for waiting. I was already going to give him a yelp coupon, but it was a nice gesture anyway. He had my dress altered and steamed exactly 2 weeks later. I tried the dress on which fit PERFECTLY. It felt like a custom made dress and looked beautiful. He did a wonderful job. I also wanted to comment on how friendly Mohammad was. I brought my husband and 3 year old son both times and he engaged my son both days. That obviously had nothing to do with his craftmanship but it always makes for a more pleasant experience when people are happy and friendly. I would definitely recommend this business. I can't speak for how he tailors custom suits but I do plan on taking my husband back there for a custom suit in the future. I highly recommend Mohammad and will take my business there again. read more

The last time I had a custom tailored suit made was for my wedding in October 1985. On the occasion of my son's wedding in October 2023 I decided to buy both him and I custom tailored suits for the wedding. I found Mohammed on his website, was intrigued by his story and checked him out. Mohammed invested an hour in me showing fabric and style options and insisted on showing me many pieces awaiting pick up. I was blown away! I went in for my fitting on July 6. I actually selected an elegant fabric from his stock in his shop. Mohammed worked brilliantly to establish the look I was looking for. It was a delightful experience. During the course of the fitting I finally just told him "make me look good". The suit was ready on August 19 and even though Mohammed suggested a couple of adjustments I confirmed that the suit was perfect and I didn't want to change a thing. Mohammed made me look "fantastic" according to my son's fiancée. I took my son in for his fitting on August 4. We will go in for his try out on October 17 and there is no doubt in my mind that the suit will be perfect. He will be married on October 21. If any alterations will be required, Mohammed will take care of it no problem. Mohammed understands the needs of young and old alike. He is a joy to deal with. What a great place for alterations! Everyone I've interacted with was very professional and skilled. I appreciated their attention to detail with all of my alterations across 5 garments (hemming, shortening straps, adjusting bust, and reshaping a shift dress). It took a week to get everything done, which was very reasonable based on how many items I had. And the cost was also very reasonable based on the quality and quantity that was done. I bought a wedding dress online and when it arrived....it was hideous. My friend suggested that I go to see "Mo" who is a "wizard with fabric". She was right! I ended up ditching that awful dress and at his insistence, waltzed over to David's Bridal and bought my wedding dress. Mo put in a custom corset lacing in the back, tracked down hard to find materials to match the color, and cleaned and pressed it beautifully. It fit me perfectly! If I ever need something tailored again, I am going to Mo. Not only is he a craftsmen, but he is truly an amazing person who will go above and beyond. It is not just about the money for him. He is equally rewarded when he sees how he has helped you and when you show how happy you are with the fit. That being said, he is very good at his job and he made my horribly fitted off-the-rack spaghetti-strapped bridesmaids dress that was too big for my bust, yet somehow fit my hips look great on me by reworking the middle section and molding it to my frame. Outstanding work that is technically difficult. He is a pro and you can trust his technical skill and expertise. I also called him on the day of the wedding in Chicago because none of the bridesmaids could figure out the eye-and-hook clasp on the back. There are excellent tailors in Birmingham who are also courteous. I wouldn't go near someone who behaves like that. read more

I had a small rip in my skirt and went to Crown Custom Clothing for the very first time. The moment I entered the business, I was greeted by Mohammed. Noticing gorgeous fabric swatches on the work table and suits that you could never find at Somerset, I was doubting he would sew my $20 skirt. I was wrong. He treated me like I had asked him to create Cinderella's wedding dress and had it done in 1/2 an hour. Just like you I read reviews first and decided to schedule an appointment to order a custom suit for my wedding. Mohammad was very distracted the 2 hours I spent mostly looking at the same wool fabric swatches. His website says suits under 1k which is what I wanted. He quoted me $1,500 because it was a "designer" pattern he'd need. I was hesitant then and should of left. Against my better judgment I put 1k cash deposit down (mistake) and returned a month later to pick up my suit. When I say every aspect of this 4 piece suit was wrong, it was wrong. Completely unwearable. Everything was too short and tight and overly feminine, which is not what I wanted. (I am an average 5'4 120 lbs woman) He promised he could fix it, so I returned a month after it was supposed to be finished and again way to tight and not what he promised. He didn't listen to my concerns and it didn't matter to him if I couldn't move, let alone bend my knee in a custom suit which should fit me. He "made" not 1 but 2 suits that work for mannequins not humans. 2 weeks before my wedding I scrambled to find a replacement outfit. Terrible business. Worst experience of my life as an LGBT woman. Expected a master tailor to not outsource his jobs to China. Take your business elsewhere, especially if you are a woman. He will say I was a difficult customer but I assure you that is not the case. read more

I am very petite and almost everything I buy has to be tailored. I first went to Crown for a long silk dress, which was going to quite a bit of work. I could not have been more pleased with the work that was done. Mohammad took a lot of time to make sure the length was perfect and the fit on top worked with my smaller frame. More recently I took a coat I had bought at target which I loved the pattern on, but the fit was very boxy and the sleeves were way to long. The end result was the perfect A-line fit jacket that looked amazing. I could not be more happy with their service and attention to detail. I came to Mohammed to have him tailor some coats after my recent weight loss. From the moment I walked in his shop and spoke to him, I could tell that he was the real deal. He took my coats that were a two sizes too large and crafted them into coats that looked like were custom fit for me. As I watched him work, I could tell he takes pride in every stitch, hem, and inseam. He is meticulous, detailed, and above all, he is a perfectionist. I am very upset with the quality of service and dishonesty of this establishment. I dropped off an expensive pair of pants to be hemmed, and when I picked them up them up there was a large bleach stain on the pants. After inquiring about the stain and asking for a refund only for the hemming, I was told that the pants were like this when I brought them in. This is simply untrue. The pants were brand new. I am very disappointed that no responsibility was taken and no apology was offered. I would not recommend this tailor to ANYONE. read more
