Once I decided to use Yelp to find my "event" cleaners, I was totally befuddled. Most places around me seem to have that "I love you" or "you ruined my life" tone that doesn't really help provide an objective measure. And, many of the NYU-area cleaners seem either sketchy or overpriced, with nothing in between. Enter Crown Cleaners, which only had a few reviews--but glowing ones. I also get the sense that they semi-recently took over for an older shop, which might not have been up to snuff. Whatever the case, they were really friendly (the owner gave me a discount on my 2-piece suit, regular price $12). The suit came out great so I feel good for a big event this weekend. The owner's daughter (I'm guessing) was very sweet when I came to pick up my stuff. I'd like to start bringing shirts here (I usually do them myself). The posted price was $2 for wash/press, I think, which is as good as it gets in the area. If only it were a tad closer! read more

I am honestly shocked by how offensive and rude this place is. The man at the counter, I assume the owner, tried to charge me extra because he said my shirt was silk. I checked the tag and it said 70% cotton/30% silk, so I asked if that really constituted a silk shirt. He then pushed my clothes away from him and said he didn't need to do it, essentially telling me to get out. I went out of my way to go there, thinking it would become my regular dry cleaning place. With such positive reviews, I am appalled by the way the owner treats customers. I'm still shocked. If he's too good to do dry cleaning, don't operate a dry cleaning business. read more

I brought a white cotton dress for dry-cleaning, but they charged me silk prices. I let it go, thinking maybe it was justified because the dress had some satin and tulle detailing. However, when I brought the dress home, I saw that they had stapled the delicate tulle trim to the hanger. I removed the staple as gently as I could but it was already DAMAGED. My clothes are not priceless and they do not last forever because I wear them hard. If a button goes missing, who cares! They are the most unfriendly cleaners in this area. Extremely rude- lost a batch of 5 of my husband's shirts and never owned up to it. They also use cheap material (wire) that it stains the shirts where it touches. They wouldn't own up to that either and blamed the red spot on lipstick when it was on the same place hitting the wire on every shirt. I called for pick up and they forgot to pick it up multiple times, blaming the delivery guy. The tailor is good, but the dry cleaning and wash/fold service is terrible. I usually drop my laundry bag off at 9 or 10 in the morning, and it is ready by 5 PM. I like how they put your folded clothes in a clear plastic before putting back into the laundry bag. So ever since my laundromat burnt down (yes you read that right) I have been using crown for my laundry. Except they lost my northface running socks. And inspite of following up on them several times (they told me they would call me or reimburse me) - I have had no luck. 2 stars because the previous times I gave my laundry here they didn't lose anything. read more

I dropped off some shirts here hoping I wouldnt have the same bad experience as in Tower Cleaners on 10th St. As I gave my address he recognised it and clocked that I had just moved in as the previous tenant used to use his cleaners. He shook me by the hand and welcomed me. I thought that was a nice touch. What was even better was that it was 2.50 a shirt to get washed and ironed. At Tower Cleaners because they were womens shirts they were charging me 7.50 when they are identical to the men's shirts (Thomas Pink). I've only used them 4 times or so (and did dry cleaning every time, so I can't speak for their other laundry services), but every time I've been very satisfied. Family owned and operated with convenient hours for me, and they knew my name already by the second time I went. Very friendly people. I can't say much about the prices because I haven't tried anywhere else in the city, but it comes down to about $5/shirt for dry cleaning. read more
