Got to experience everything you could expect from a 100-yr-old diner... Great food, great service, great atmosphere. read more

Crown Candy Kitchen - Old-fashioned diner...love it! - Candy Stores Near Me - St. Louis, Missouri

We ordered a fish sandwich and a turkey bacon melt. Both were excellent. I would order these again. We saw the BLT sandwiches, which were larger than we wanted, but they looked good. We also ordered a chocolate shake, which was enough for both of us. read more

Great sandwiches and fantastic malts. definitely a hidden gem here and im grateful we have such an awesome place that's part of St Louis history. read more

Well...this tiny little old fashioned restaurant(opened 1913!) is adorable and the food and treats were delicious - and I can't believe I was scared to come down here because of the neighborhood...I'm glad we came here! We got here right when they opened so we didn't have to wait in line - just picked a tiny 2 person "booth" to sit in! The waitress was very friendly and once we decided on our order, it was quickly brought out to us - a chocolate milkshake (big enough to share), then the famous BLT & a turkey special. Both came with chips & a pickle wedge...standard accompaniments for lunch, crisp & fresh, nothing fancy. The milkshake was silky smooth and tasted great - the chocolate was divine! The sandwiches were loaded with meat, lettuce & tomato and the bread was perfectly toasted! After we stuffed ourselves, of course we had to visit the candy case - oh my! This little establishment makes their own chocolate treats AND their own ice cream! We picked up some chocolate hash (like fudge), chocolate covered espresso beans, salt water taffy and some chocolate snappers to go & I can't wait to try them! We'll have to try different sandwiches & a sundae next time we visit! I'm actually excited to go back and pick up some gift boxes of treats to distribute for Christmas! read more

Today I got the fire chief special 2 go. 7 dollars and some change was the cost and I'd say it was a fair price for the nostalgic feel of the restaurant. I cream was good fudge was a bit runny but they did put plenty toppings with it so I'm happy. Usually there is a line out the door and around the side of the building but that's because the dining area is small. Get it to go and save yourself a ton of waiting. read more

This is a Saint Louis icon. The ice cream is great. Restaurant is super nostalgic as it is over 100 years old. The sandwiches are huge. Don't expect top notch service but I love coming here when I'm in the area. read more

A great little neighborhood gem! It's just a place you gotta try once. Wasn't brave enough to do the BLT so I went with the turkey and it was equally amazing! And don't forget to try one of the milkshakes too! Will definitely be back!! read more

LOVE this place. BLT has the most thick cut Bacon on it I've ever seen. Gigantic !!!! The place is so nostalgic and awesome. Great Chocolate, Ice Cream and super nice Customer Service. A MUST GO PLACE in St. Louis. read more

What a terrific place!! The BLT is off the charts good , I've also gotten the egg salad which I recommend. Never tried the dairy delights but they look just as good as the BLT. Keep up the GREAT work guys - places like yours are what makes this quest for Americana so terrific. read more

A neat place to visit and enjoy lunch, delicious candy, an ice cream sundae, root beer float or a shake. It makes you feel like you are stepping back to a simpler time. The decor is nostalgic. Lines can be long, but it is definitely a St. Louis tradition, that you shouldn't miss! Great for taking a few photos in front of it, too. read more

I have a real problem with this place. I can't eat everything I want at one sitting. Seriously, the portions are huge and all the food is awesome. I went with the old standby, bacon sandwich and milk shake. I doubt I'll eat for two days, but when I do I'll be back. read more

This is a place I try to visit every time I come home to St. Louis. It's a historic landmark in old North St. Louis that has been open at the same location since 1913 and run by the same family. To have stayed open for over 100 years means they must be doing something right. And believe me, they have! Everything I've had there was completely delicious, especially the ice cream and malts. They make all their own ice cream which is 14% butterfat, making it absolutely some of the best tasting ice cream ever. They also make all their own candy, which puts all of the usual candy brands to shame. If you like chocolate or licorice or gummy candy, you need to try theirs. Other candy will never taste the same again. If you don't like sweets, they also have sandwiches that are pretty great too. The bacon sandwich has an entire pound of bacon in it! Another great thing about this place is that the inside really takes you back to a different time, as they have kept their interior looking just like it would have in 1913. This place is one of the great landmarks of St. Louis and is definitely worth visiting. read more

Crown Candy Kitchen - Ice cream soda with cherry ice cream - Candy Stores Near Me - St. Louis, Missouri

My friend and I arrived early so we could chat before the lunch rush. I had a grilled ham and cheese. You can be assured that no matter what you order, you will not be disappointed with the portion size. The ham and cheese were perfectly melted, the bread was expertly grilled. Our waitress was there whenever she was supposed to be and she didn't miss a beat. No time for dessert today. I have a single area of unhappiness. I am a Coke drinker, and it is Coke no Pepsi. I saw the lunch line forming and closed our conversation. The people in the line deserved their time in a St. Louis treasure. read more

We had a group of 17 teenagers come to this place with no advance notice and everyone was served their carry-out order in about 20 minutes. Impressive to say the least. I had their fireman sundae and it was tremendous. The best part was the salted pecans. read more

It is an understatement to say that the service was bad. I sat for fifteen minute without even an acknowledgement from the waitress. When I finally flagged her, she did not apologize nor just take my order. She actually yelled at me before I even said a single word to her. She told me that I had to have patience and she was working as fast as she can. Yet, she was asking other customers whether they needed anything (and they didn't) before even acknowledging me. In addition, she never refilled my coffee. As for the food, it was nothing special. They are famous for their BLT. They do put a lot of bacon in it, but you can do that at home. It comes with some stale chips and a limp pickle. There is always a line because the service is so slow, terrible and outright hostile. Just go to the supermarket and buy yourself a pack of bacon, fresh chips and a crisp pickle. You will be much happier! read more

I just don't get what this place is about. The people who work here are disgusting and treat their customers like trash. The restaurant is filthy and I would hate to think what condition the kitchen is in. The ice cream is watery tasting and the flavors taste fake and inexpensive. Do yourself a favor and go to Bailey's Range downtown. Their ice cream is much better and their flavors are of much higher quality. And their waitstaff isn't crude and scary to look at. read more

This is the perfect place for a family lunch or snacking , date, work lunch, ice cream days or more. It has a menu full of greats options and they aren't to pricey. The ice cream is delightful and I know that from experience. This was my dad favorite place to take me and my younger sister for ice cream and lunch. They have really good energy and and great people working in the establishment . If u ever think about coming you should do soyou will not regret it!!! read more

Ok folks just a few pointers. This place is busy and so I suggest either going when they first open or later on in the afternoon. Now, from this pork lover....GET THE BLT! Just make sure you haven't eaten within the last 24 hours or you will go into a food coma. Next, the pineapple malt and the chocolate banana malt are some of the best flavors your taste buds will ever experience. This dandy little establishment has stood the test of time and makes you feel as though you are experiencing a little bit of history. Stay tuned as I plan on being frequent customer.....along with Jenny Craig ;) read more

Crown Candy Kitchen is located a little north of downtown STL where the majority of residents have moved on. The only thing in the neighborhood that really stands out is CCK. This place is ancient and just looking at the old fashioned Coca-Cola ads (which by the way they don't even serve anymore), you get a feel for how old. I always get the Reuben and the Fire Chief special (two scoops of Oreo). The sandwiches are a hefty portion with a handful of chips. They top out at about $9.00 for your higher end sandwiches like their famous "heart-stopping BLT" which is something like a pound of good ole american FRIED bacon and two oil soaked pieces of bread. Their ice cream is simply amazing. It's all made in house and is flavorful but not too sweet. It's probably a good idea to share a dessert with your significant other, but I always scarf it down alone. The malts are also well known here. Each order could probably be shared among three people so go easy on that. The only reservations one can have with this place are 1) the shady neighborhood, but basically 80% of STL is like that so you'll have to accept it 2) the place is tiny and has never expanded, so expect to wait during the peak hours 3) the waiters/waitresses don't want to be there and take a long time with orders and checks 4) the quarter music machines at each table (like the ones at a Johnny Rockets) are all broken and just eat your change if you're curious to try it. 5) you WILL gain weight here In summary, I will always visit this place anytime I'm in STL. You can't beat the prices for good food and how many places can take you back to 1913...? The thing that never changes with this place is the decor and the QUALITY food! read more

My favorite sandwich if all time is a B.L.T. Crown Candy makes the best one I've ever had! You can't go wrong with a pound of bacon and great service to boot! Great St. Louis tradition! read more

Crown Candy Kitchen (or as I call it CCK) is awesome. The shakes and malts are amazing. The candy they have here is very good. The service is normally very good. Oh and the BLT is simply amazing. I also really like their grilled cheese. The only complaint I can say about this place is that it fills up very VERY fast. But it is well worth any wait you encounter. read more

classic, old-fashioned diner food? youbetcha! "meet me in st. louie at crown candy kitchen...." for old-fashioned classic diner food. great chili-dogs, awesome hand-made shakes & malts, onion rings, burgers - that taste like they used to, when i was a kid. i used to go there with co-workers regularly for lunch when i was a consultant working in that area. and yes - they do make candy there! take some home for later.... you might want to go for lunch or early dinner - the neighborhood has undergone an evolution. read more

Love this place. If you want a taste of some real St Louis culture you gotta hit this spot. It's over 100 years old. The malts aren't bad either. Haha read more

I enjoy crown candy when I go. Unfortunately my last visit 1/4/18 was not the best. I went with the blt in mind and a banana split, mouth ready for them both. We arrive and there was no line.. WINNING we get seated and time began to tick away. Almost 10 min past and NOT A SINGLE PERSON in the establishment says hello, we will be with you in a few moments. NOTHING! Not a word. There were two waitresses (i believe) that walked past our table at least 6 times and nothing was said. . Not happy with the service or lack there of at all.. read more

Waited 45 min line on a Sat afternoon only to come upon food that was, "eh". Had the roast beef & cheese sandwich (decent) & a chocolate malt (I could make that better at home). Overall, was disappointed. read more

With the first sip of their signature shakes, Crown Candy Kitchen is easily worth the long trip up to North County. I love the look of this place, which is pretty much the same way it looked 50 years ago (or longer). The antique soda fountain still works, the prices are still very reasonable, and the food is down home and traditional. You won't find anything diet here. People rave about the BLT here and I'm afraid I'm going to have to second the mob's suggestion; it is completely delicious and every other BLT you eat will pale in comparison. You must come here. You just must. read more

My girlfriend and I went here for the first time last night. This place has all the qualities that I look for in a good restaraunt. Friendly service, Good food (And desert!), Neat atmosphere, and reasonable prices. We had a great experience and I would recomend Crown Candy Kitchen to anyone and everyone! read more

Finally tried the food (okay, several times...um, in a single week...don't judge me!) and it's awesome too. I think I'm addicted to the chocolate ice cream sodas and egg salad sandwiches. It's a good thing I'm insanely lazy and only get a short lunch because I work entirely too close to this place. The candy is fab too. I surprised my boss with the licorice and you'd have thought I gave the best surprise ever. :) My favorite is the white chocolate peanut butter cup, it's just right. The peanut butter is creamy and not all crumbly like stuff you buy in a store and white chocolate = yum. I especially want to note this: in my initial review, I called the bathroom gross. It seems like they've done some work on it because it was def cleaner on subsequent visits and did not smell bad. So I'm withdrawing that comment because it seems to no longer be an issue. read more

This was like my 3rd visit, back in the summertime. I went home and decided to try a shake, usually I just get Candy. The lines are usually long on weekends and I waited over a hour for a shake. It was a good shake but nothing more special then the next shake, especially considering the wait. I haven't tried the food. I think businesses with long lines need to find a way to keep their guests entertained while waiting. Just a suggestion. Overall, I would visit again on a weekday of course. read more

Born and raised in Stl, and crown candy is one of the most overrated places in the city. Some flavors are impressive like the black walnut, but the malts are bland and watery. Above all, the waitstaff is deplorable and completely ruins any potential atmosphere the place would have. read more

My first time here. Food and ice cream was fantastic. However, the service left a lot to be desired. We had the grumpiest waitress EVER! She barely said a word to us, left us with empty glasses of water for our entire meal. We even said thank you when she dropped off food and the check and she STILL didn't say a word! Like she was purposely ignoring us. No one is that rude on accident!! I definitely felt unwelcome and a burden. I expected happy people, but got the opposite experience. Definitely disappointed. read more

A stl classic no doubt a must if your visiting town or even if you just want some good food and amazing milk shakes with a great atmosphere in my opinion read more

Woah, this place is surely in the ghetto. BUT, it's a great St. Louis landmark to check out if you have time. Two staples that you MUST try: the BLT sandwich and a milkshake. I would recommend taking your food to go since there is not a lot of seating and it gets really crowded. This place has been around forever and it's cool to see a family owned candy shop that has been passed down from generations. Come hungry since the portions are big or plan on sharing! read more

We're on a cross country road trip and decided to stop here. Holy moly, the thoughtfulness of the people working there (bri, you're amazing!!!!), the attention to detail of the food and the decor, the deliciousness of everything we ate... this was totally our favorite pit stop of the trip!! We got the Johnny rabbit banana malt shake, the breaded chicken sandwich, and a custom turkey sandwich. We shared many of the above and they split it for us without us needing to ask, and super generously!! Thank you guys!!! read more

Crown Candy is a cute spot, great diner style menu. All of their sandwiches look delicious as well as their array of sundays, malts and other sweet treats. Really though... OMG the BLT. The BLT was the show stopper, seriously the best BLT I have ever had. A huge pile of bacon sandwiched between tasty mayo, lettuce and tomato. Bacon lovers unite and head to Crown Candy Kitchen. read more

Crown Candy is a St. Louis classic. Put on your saddle shoes, pop a coin in the jukebox and have a banana split. All the food is super cheap and yummy. Go for lunch or just dessert or both. They make tons of there own candy and at easter time they make chocolate monkeys. Forget about chocolate bunnys.....easter monkeys are where it's at. Yes it's in the ghetto, but it seems like there's perpetually a squad car parked out front, so it's all good. read more

Go during the day time. A lot of people avoid North and East St. Louis. But here's one time where you should go to one of the stl places featured on Food Network. The sundaes are amazing. Perfect old fashioned diner atmosphere. The staff appeared a bit overworked. read more

Trips to Crown Candy are rare for me, as our hours don't always match up. So when a friend invited me along for a candy-buying ride, I cajoled him into lunch as well. I usually get the Heart Stopper, but I like to mix it up. The chili tamale is delicious (if a bit on the salty side) and Paul's egg salad sandwich must have contained at least a half dozen eggs. Portions are huge, so if you want any frozen treat, save half for later. Don't skip the ice cream, and make it a Newport (topped with pecans a whipped cream) as often as possible ! read more

Decided to try this place due to the hype- was very underwhelmed. Be aware that the inside is super tiny and can only seat around 40 people. The food menu is very small/limited. Shakes were average. Can't comment on the ice cream as we didn't have any. The chocolate candy selection is basic and not particularly good. read more

Well I've met my match for BLT's. Never sat there and chewed and chewed on a piece of pork that long in my life. You know the kicker, that was only half of the sandwich. My better half went with the egg salad and a chocolate malt which she thoroughly enjoyed (the malt that is). The service was prompt and enjoyed the conversation with our server. Now I was bordering on three maybe four star since the BLT just was like any other that comes with an extra slab of bacon, but the malt (and the wife) pushed it up to four stars. The only down side is trying to get back on I70 east , it was brutal. read more
