Then, back out to the large waiting room with about 30 others. When she complained of a return of the pain, I told the desk personnel who said "everyone here is in pain." No one else showed ANY signs of being in pain, though. Hours later, she finally got a CT scan with a hernia diagnosis. Finally, she got a room, examined, and left alone for too long. We finally left anyway. A few days later, the pain returned and we made the awful mistake of coming back here. The blood work and CT scan were repeated during this 16+ hour's ordeal, which resulted in only a surgical referral a week away. The only reason I would come back here is to just die.

I went there ONLY because it was Memorial day weekend, and my primary care doctor was not available and told me I should go there. Once there, the receptionist had the personality of a rotten potato. I was suffering from SEVERE, acute pain in my lower abdomen. After an hour of waiting, I was finally brought inside to triage. The young nurse was SUPER nice and efficient. It was all downhill from there. The young attending physician was chipper, but TOTALLY clueless as I explained my symptoms. After drawing blood, taking a urin sample, and running an ultrasound and a CT scan, I waited 6 hours for them to tell me they had no clue what was wrong with me and sent me home, without so much as one aspirin. Two days of extreme agony later, I passed a huge 9mm X 7mm kidney stone, that looked like it was made out of broken glass. The ER physician was incompetent, the "reading" physician that looked at my CT scans and didn't see a huge kidney stone blocking my urethra wasn't even at the hospital, he was in MICHIGAN! Total incompetence on the part of the ER "physicians", to the point I called the head of the ER department and he ADMITTED that "mistakes were made" that night". Upstate doesn't care about your well being, they only care about making money. Six hours in that ER, with NOT even a clue of what might be wrong with me, resulted in an itemized invoice for just over $10,000.00! The CT scan alone was $4932.00, and one bag of IV solution cost $1600.00. THIS is why everyone's insurance premiums are so ridiculously high.

Unfortunately, I had to come back for emergency surgery, but the staff at admitting and upstairs were very helpful and super-respective of privacy laws. Only spent one night and never got to try the food from the cafeteria-ordering service, but I did try a turkey sandwich that many hospital regulars heartily endorsed. They even had wallet cards where you could record your desire to be taken to Crouse. Hope I don't have to come back. PS- Came back and the hot food was delivered and very good. Then they put her on IV Antibiotics (and when staff was asked why) they informed her they didn't know and it was ordered. If you go to this place, be prepared for the same level of ineptitude and lack of care as Samaritan Hospital in Watertown NY (they have put my mother's health at risk 3 times in 2 years due to their negligence and high "quality" doctors that don't know what they are doing. Parents are allowed to stay right in their child's private room, that is much bigger than most hotel rooms! Each room has a playstation, huge walk in bathroom, and an amazing view of the city. The building has state of the art playrooms, a quite nature room that plays soothing sounds like running water, a free laundry room so parents can do their laundry, and food that tasted great! The facility is so beautiful and calming, it really helps not kids not only physically get better but mentally too!
