    Crosswinds Motel, Rehoboth Beach, DE
    Su K.

Decent motel with excellent service in Rehoboth Beach. My wife and I decided to take a spur-of-the-moment overnight trip to Rehoboth. I looked up hotels in Rehoboth Beach on Yelp and the few options available were either booked or required 3 night stays. So I resorted to using another review site which shall not be named and began calling from #1 down. I ended up at Crosswinds Motel, which was #4 on the list, and they had one room left. They do require a minimum stay, it was after all the end of the summer season, but since they only had one room left, they were willing to take us for one night. She even gave us a 10% discount, which was an unexpected, but definitely welcome surprise. Location - Located just across the street from the Cultured Pearl, the website says it's 3 blocks to the boardwalk. I'm not really sure how long a city block is, but it took us about 15-20 minutes to get down to the boardwalk, so my guess is it was a little less than a mile. Cloud 9, Summerhouse, Fins, Dogfish, and Cultured Pearl are all very close, and there are enough shops to look at that the walk down to the boardwalk doesn't seem overly long. There aren't very many parking spaces, so each room is given one parking space. The main lobby is very tiny and located apart from the rooms. Several other notes: 1) I only noticed one room on the first floor and I didn't see an elevator, so I wouldn't recommend this location for those in wheelchairs or have general disdain for taking the stairs. 2) Non-smoking - YAY! The designated smoking areas are located near the stairs, so you have to walk by. Boo! 3) Paid Wi-Fi = no Yelping in your room Service - the staff were extremely friendly and knowledgeable of good places to eat in the area. Room - the room was clean and typical of most motels. There was a small, flat screen TV but the reception for many of the stations was poor, but we don't watch much TV so that wasn't a big deal. They provided plenty of towels and there's a hair dryer in your room. The beds were fairly comfortable but the pillows weren't too great and the top flat sheet felt like high grit sandpaper. My two gripes with the room: 1) Not very soundproof. We were located right next to the stairs, so every time people went out for a smoke, we heard their entire conversation. 2) The condition shampoo was terrible. I have pretty thick hair, so the texture of my hair ranges from brillo pad to slightly softer brillo pad. In fact, I once broke a clipper at hair cuttery b/c the guy improperly lubricated it. But I digress. This shampoo made my hair feel like a used brillo pad - ungood. My wife commented that it seemed like dishwashing detergent. So unless you want huge knots/tangles, I'd recommend bringing your own shampoo. Overall, a great motel in Rehoboth Beach. I would definitely recommend this place for those looking for a basic room, who don't mind walking, and would rather be located closer to the nice restaurants. For those that don't want to walk and would rather be closer to the boardwalk, I'd recommend the Atlantis Inn.

We've been here twice, both times were okay, mostly because of the awesome location. Literally, right next door to both Dogfish restaurants. Staff-Awesome! Friendly, attentive and helpful. Room-eeeh..there was air conditioner mold residue blown all over the nearby bed when we arrived. Also the light in the bathroom was out, which in the extremely SMALL bathroom, made it impossible to function in there. Rooms have mini fridge and decent cable channels. Stains on headboards were kinda weird. Price-$96 for a Saturday in April, including the 10% discount (return customer discount) We will be back.

Great motel. Very affordable, great location right next to Dogfish Head and across from a beautiful rooftop sushi place. About a 7 minute walk to the beach. If you have a lot of stuff to carry, you'll probably want to drive up the block but otherwise it's a really nice walk through this little surf town and shops. The staff are really nice and the rooms are comfortable, clean and bright with up to date features like flat screen TVs and usb chargers in the outlets. Bathrooms and vanity area are stocked well with eco-friendly toiletries and towels. Really cute. I would not stay any where else at this point.

It's conveniently located to the shops/restaurant and the beach- within walking distance. The staff is welcoming and helpful. It has street parking, and a parking garage for guests only. The hotel boasts of a beautiful indoor pool and restaurant. The restaurant/bar Sirocco is very elegant and was completely full both nights of our stay. The pool is nice and heated, but still chilly in cold weather - though my kids didn't seem to mind. The doors open out to a nice rooftop patio in nicer weather. There is a small gym, though I didn't get a chance to go look at it. There are some points of improvement: - we left our room at 8 in the morning. When we came back around noon, it had not been visited by the cleaning staff. When we left and came back again around 3, it had been visited but only stocked with fresh towels and the trash was taken out. Our soiled towels and some dishes were still on the floor/sink. When we left for dinner, I mentioned it to the front desk attendant at 530. He was very apologetic and said they would send someone up to address the issue. When we got back at 8, our soiled towels were gone, but that was it. The beds were not made, and there were still old dishes on the sink from the night prior. - I pulled out one of the clean (or so I thought) glasses from the cabinet in the room and noticed it had a bunch of finger prints. So I pulled each and every one out of the cabinet and was surprised and disappointed to see not only fingerprints but LIP prints on all of the glassware, as if they had been put back dirty after multiple uses. I cleaned a glass in the sink with hot water and soap for my own usage, but that's less than optimal for a Hilton affiliate. Other than that, a great family visit at a nice hotel. We talked to the assistant general manager Cyrus and he was great with service recovery for our two small complaints!

We stayed here for a short family trip with our toddler and enjoyed that proximity. The hotel has on site parking which is convenient and included in the room cost. It also has a few spots reserved right near the lobby entrance for check in we didn't know about in advance but you do now. Due to the proximity to the beach, we were able to get on the beach very early sans crowds, see the sunrise, go get breakfast in the hotel's restaurant, walk part of the Boardwalk, then go right back to the our room to clean up and take a nap. The convenience where your money is going if you opt to stay here. I would say that the front desk service is just ok, esp when you're paying pretty handsomely to stay here. For instance, the hotel advertises that you can reserve umbrella/chairs with a 10% voucher so I called from our room, spoke to the same male receptionist twice then the next day made our way to the receptionists in the lobby. The lady I spoke with proceeded to ask me if who I spoke with. I normally try to remember names but this particular one had not identified himself and I had made the last minute judgement call not to ask. When I asked why that mattered, she said we were supposed to pick up vouchers in the morning. Nowhere does it say that nor did the male receptionist mention this the two times I called. Nor did I understand why that mattered since we only wanted to use the umbrella/chair for less than two hours late in the day. Finally, she proceeded to look for the umbrella and chair vouchers. Even the box labeled "chairs" only contained umbrella vouchers. So basically what was supposed to be a 2 minute endeavor turned into a much longer one. To top it all off, no one was manning the umbrella/chair stand at either of the two kiosks we tried so after we spent a short time on the beach we asked for a refund with the lobby receptionist on our way back in. That employee we spoke with offered zero apology for our inconvenience or anything like that. He gave us an absolutely deadpan look then said he'd refund the charge. I'm glad he did but again, for the price you're paying for these rooms, you'd expect a bit more customer service. There's a vending machine in the lobby for which you can use your credit card to buy stuff like bottled water, wipes, sunscreen but we found a nearby convenience store (RB convenience on Rehobeth Beach) within pretty easy walking distance where the water was in larger quantities and cheaper. The restaurant and pool on site are convenient although the pool was out of towels a few hours before they closed and those were not restocked although I did see an employee bringing over towel disposal bin for used towels. Overall, the price you're paying here is for proximity and convenience, not for the customer service. The interior is a bit dated (hallway carpets could use some freshening, etc). Our room did have a microwave and mini fridge although the website only advertised it having a mini fridge. I recommend staying here if proximity and convenience are what you prioritize.

It is a huge selling point (which is why I selected this hotel for a short visit to the Rehoboth Beach Beach), but the hotel and its facilities look and feel like more like a rundown, two-star motel. I also felt mislead by their name "Sands", which I mistook as being one of the Sands Resorts.

The house contains rooms with private bathrooms and rooms on a floor with shared bathrooms. I was very hesitant to book at first when I read that I would have to "share" a bathroom. We just returned home after a 4 night stay here and we were more than satisfied! Tom, the house owner, is super kind, personable and hospitable. His other workers (Rayvn and Chris) are also so helpful and always get you what you need. You can request to have breakfast in the morning from a menu selection and they bring you your food out at the time you request to have it ready for you . Tom always came and checked up on us wherever we were sitting during breakfast to chat about random things, show us his puppy and ask us if we wanted more food or needed anything. The room we stayed in had a shared bathroom in the hallway (we stayed on the 2nd floor and other rooms shared 2 full baths and a half bath with us) and it was actually very clean. The staff did a good job replenishing towels each day and cleaning the shower/toilet/sink. Felt very comfortable here. We would love to try a room with a private bathroom (it was so booked up when we tried to get one initially so book way in advance!) I love that the beach was only a 4 minute walk and access to the main streets was only an alley walk away from the house. No complaints at all after this stay. When we sat out on the porch each morning and night, many people would walk by making comments about how pretty and interesting the establishment was. Because our priority was being as close to the beach as possible, we decided to take the gamble considering we're reasonable people who know what beach-town/beach-side hotels tend to be (a little weather-worn, ya know?). Upon entering the lobby, I was instantly impressed! It was clean, inviting, and smelled incredible (giving more of a luxury hotel vibe). Check in was a breeze, pulling into the driveway and garage for parking. Huge positive is having parking included for hotel guests and you're given a parking pass to hang on your rear view mirror during your stay. The front desk staff was very welcoming and friendly, making sure we had all the information for our stay and we were able to head right to our room. Upon arriving to our floor, you can tell the outer spaces are weather-worn (as expected), but our room was spacious with two queen beds, large dresser with deep drawers, mini fridge, plenty of space for luggage and rack for hangers, balcony with ample space and partial ocean view, small toilet/shower space but the double sink was a huge plus! From our whole stay, I think the only negative was that there was no shower liner in the shower so - after all four of us came back from the beach and showered all that sand off, the bathroom floor was soaked which I was worried about the kids slipping and falling, so we had to use extra towels to clean that up quickly. The room was clean and tidy with warm lighting options throughout. Our floor had a vending and ice machine right by the elevator which was clutch to keep us hydrated and cool our drinks during hot days. Remember, housekeeping service is only available upon request - pro tip: request it the night before the day you'd like your room cleaned, or latest by noon the day-of. I appreciated that we let them know too late one day but they called to let us know they could have someone come while we went out for dinner, which was thoughtful. The lobby area was clutch for us, especially with the restroom because our kids always had to go whether we were heading out or heading back in and "couldn't wait." There's also an Emblem coffee machine (which can make cappuccinos, French vanilla coffee, hot chocolates and more) and water fountain. During the day, they keep the lobby coffee table stocked with oranges or snacks which is a nice touch for grab and go. The beautiful murals lining the breezeway between the lobby and the boardwalk are stunning and I lovedddd the rocking chairs at the end of the breezeway; the perfect seat to watch the sunrise/sunset or people watch! Our family agrees that the biggest positive to the Henlopen is its proximity to the water and the boardwalk action!
