When I later inquired about exchanging the unused lenses, they denied the possibility, only for my insurance to confirm that I should have been given my preferred contacts from the start. Rather than informing me of all my options upfront, they withheld crucial information, causing unnecessary frustration and financial strain. They only changed course **after** my insurance contacted them, which makes it clear that they had the facts all along but failed to act in my best interest. Whether due to negligence or greed, this experience was unacceptable. Patients deserve honesty and providers who prioritize their well-being--not ones who make things harder for them.

I called Barnhorst Eye and Laser Center to see if could get an appointment before the end of the year and they were able to squeeze me in. I was happy to see that this location was super close to me. It's conveniently located in the shops at Nocatee, near Publix. This office has a dedicated parking lot, which is nice. When I walked in, I was greeted by the front desk person. She said someone would be right with me. Less than 10 minutes later a nurse brought me back, did a few little tests, asked some questions, then I was brought back to an exam room, where I waited for the doctor. I will say that I waited for what seemed like a while for the doctor, but also realized it was the day after a holiday weekend, and only one doctor was on staff. The doctor came in. She was nice and asked me some questions, then got to work on checking my eyes. Am I the only one when the doctor asks which lens looks better gets a bit of anxiety if I made the right choice? I hope not lol. After she did an eye exam, she dilated my eyes. It's been years since I've had this done. I've been to other practices where for an upcharge they do an electronic version, versus the dilation. I was a bit surprised this wasn't offered, but I also have a family history of some gnarly eye diseases, so maybe that was the reason. After my dilation, she checked the pressure in my eyes, did a few more things, then printed out my prescription. I really liked how I wasn't sold to purchase some of their in-house glasses. I've done that once at a different practice and you always felt pressured to find something, even if you didn't really care for it. Instead I took my prescription and went to Costco's optical center. They called me September 18, 2024, DESPITE TAKING MY INSURANCE FOR OVER A YEAR AND HAVING TAKING ALL THE REQUIRED EXAMINATIONS AND EYE TESTS 1 MONTH PRIOR TO SEEING DR BARNHORST FIR A CATARACT EXAM AND RECOMMENDATION. It turns out the office wasn't taking the insurance fir many months and they failed to notify me. There was no apology, offer to use a different insurance or a call from Dr Barnhorst himself to potentially inform me, as my doctor, that a delay or reschedule until I could switch my insurance after the start of the next year would or would not degrade my cataract further. I wasted time and effort to go ahead with the surgery, including setting up friends schedules to accompany me to and from the procedure itself, time to see my primary as required by Dr Barnhorst as a pre requisite to undergoing the procedure, AND arranging my finances to pay thousands of dollars for Lazer and other non covered services. In my opinion, this was all on them, they offered no upfront apology about the whole ordeal amd blew me off with a master of fact call from their billing department! MYY RECOMMENDATION IS AVOID THIS DOCTOR ALTOGETHER. HES UNRELIABLE AND DOESNT KEEP HIS OBLIGATIONS. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME AND YOUR EYESITE!!

Moving…read moreto St. Johns County from Mandarin, we stumbled on this small yet quaint eye care specialist, Coastal Clear Eye care. Not only were we treated like a VIP but it beats the big 2, Lencrafters and Vision works in care and service. The only drawback is the selection of glasses. However, we were pleased with our new frames that we get every 2 years. In the future, contact lenses might be an option, but I can not put the lenses in my eyeballs. I guess it is a fear of poking myself in the eye. I had one reservation about Coastal Clear Eyecare since my eye prescription changed every year, I could not retain my old prescription for my Rayban sunglasses. I would have to pay an additional charge. They did advertise some sort of special. If you are in the mood for an eyecare lab that is low key and will treat you as a person and not a number run don't walk to Coastal Clear Eyecare. Tell them Jerry sent you!

Oh she is kind, thorough and personable. I felt very comfortable with her the first day I met her 14 years ago. My last exam was in November 2019. I also had a contact lens exam. I left with a new script for…read moreglasses and 3 contact lens scripts. My right eye had 1 script for normal use and 1 for far away ( Concerts, Movies, Tennis etc). I still had lenses from my previous script which I used up probably in February. I did not use my far away right script due to the fact that long range activities were on hold during Covid. I went back to playing tennis and I felt the distance was a little blurry. I also ordered new glasses about a month ago. I received my glasses and noticed my vision was worse then with my previous pair of glasses. I checked both my contact lens and glasses scripts and found both of them to be weaker then my previous scripts. I called Vision Express and asked if they could re check my script. I was told that I would have to pay for a whole new exam. I then went on their website and initiated a complaint to work out a solution. I never received a response back. I then once again left a complaint this time to the downtown office. I once again never received a response. Your eyes are important and I learned my lesson in going to the most reasonable priced place. At the very least I should have received a response back. Also refused to put lenses in frames I did not purchase there and would not give me the Pupil Distance from my chart. (this apparently is corporate policy) Just overall a feeling of wanting to make the maximum sale possible and always telling me they had the best price. I will not waste my time again with Target Optical.
