I have been hiring day laborers from Crossroads for a few years. Great people trying to get their life's back on track. Never had a problem until day. Slimy con-artist stealing my pain meds, fighting with the other worker, and just a thug. Reported to case manager, who had an uncaring attitude. My husband and I financially support the crossroads mission as they do good work there. I have known folks who go there and receive help. It is not easy to get through a difficult time in one's life without the help of others and if you don't have people you can count on, then you might need to get help elsewhere. The rehab program here changed my life. Eventho I had relapsed a few times (because I wasn't ready at the time and court ordered) this place taught me a lot. The counselors & staff gave me tools to carry on the rest of my life outside the program. I feel I've grown a lot. It was a very humbling experience but, the fancy rehabs did not work for me. if you want sobriety and other places haven't worked for you, that are resort style..come here and it will change your life! It is hardcore and a homeless shelter, but they require everyone to be sober and want to change their lives. You have about 10 people bunked to your room at a time when they're busy, but if you're serious about getting recovered don't let anything stop you! The staff is amazing and so are the people you become friends with. One of my roomates I still talk to one this day. It teaches you to give back, and be grateful as well. They do outings also after you've been there a few weeks.. it is a 4 month program and they help get you on your feet, be independent, help get a job, write a resume, learn tools to stay sober, meetings, therapy, group classes, get you clothing, medicine from doctors if needed, etc. If you're donating here it's for a really great cause. The bad reviews are just people that are not appreciative of free services and entitled to be treated like gods lol Blows my mind the complaints on here, when they are not even paying for anything and getting everything free and shelter, food and off the streets for the night. Those people writing negative reviews should probably enroll themselves into the rehab part and learn to be grateful, and change their lives to get off the street instead of begging for money and complaining about everything. read more

I gotta give this place a low rating. At base, it's not that bad a shelter, but for everything they demand of the client for what little they offer, that's what makes it poor quality. It's really messed up this is the only shelter in town, too. They do a urine and breath test at the door. Jesus turned water into wine, didn't it? He may not have been turnt, but he drank. They require Id, which is very messed up for a broader town. Jesus was an "illegal" immigrant. he wouldn't have had an id. Is one of those missions in the name of Jesus, but wouldn't let Jesus in if he came looking for shelter. Also I can't stay for more than 1 night without ID. You can't stay more than 10 days out of the month without entering into a program. They also kick disabled people out, and make disabled people leave the building during the day. The beds aren't that comfortable. It's a bulk bed situation, with metal springs and a gym mat. A pro is that we can use padding or gets more blankets to pad, if we need... but can the shelter just get better mats or different bulk beds? This place does provide other services, which seem to be decent but the emergency shelter needs a lot of work! Monday through Friday staff turns on the lights and yells in client's rooms at 5am when we don't have to leave until 8am. A few days before I left, 8 is Kama a staff went into a client's purse without her consent or supervision. She saw something sticking out of the client's purse, pulled it out, and said "she can ask her this back" inreally snarky tone. Also, most of the food wasn't good. It depends who was cooking, but they usually have people that don't know how to cook with what they have. I understand that most of the food is donated, but that's not an excuse. Better Cooks can work with not- so- fresh ingredients. I asked them for the wifi password, and they said they don't give it out because the clients are supposed to be using the internet. I asked for clarification and got ignored. Internet access is a basic need (as declared by W. Bush - which making the ACP), so they're flexing on restricting people from a basic need. People are having issues accessing their own phone signal inside the building, so it's a restriction. They also consider cell phone use a privilege. Phone access is not a privilege and it's dehumanizing to have that. The rules use a lot of demoralizing Verbage, in general. I even had to sign a "CERTIFICATE OF HOMELESSNESS". Very branding language. There's also a staff member that. Goes out of her way to make life harder for the clients, and instead of firing her, the lady that runs the program/ building jokes about her. How people are treated is a joke in this facility. There needs to be more shelters in Yuma to accommodate people with different needs, breaking the monopoly, so they would be pressured into treating people better. People are afraid to complain about them for fear of retaliation, and that shouldn't be a thing at all! This shelter is not worth all the rules and regulations it has. They need competition, and the people of Yuma need more services. Homelessness is a systematic failure, that person should not be punished for. In the name of Jesus, do right by our more marginalized population. The homeless are the most dehumanized, demoralized, and scapegoated population. Jesus would be our here protecting them, not making them jump through hoops. Being homeless is hard enough! read more

This is a faith-based non-profit that specializes in services for the homeless, addicted and needy of Yuma by providing meals, counseling, employment opportunities for those in need. Today I went to give information to the Community Affairs Director for volunteering during Thanksgiving and Christmas in the soup kitchen (a family tradition we started a few years back). Although busy, she gave me 20 minutes for Q & A about future volunteer opportunities and such. I also donated a box full of winter clothes, also a tax write-off. Crossroads Mission has a lot to offer; consider looking into one not only to volunteer but for other activities. Worth the consideration. read more

Walked in off the street looking for help. The reception help was kind and understanding. She asked if I could wait to speak with a case manager since they were all in a meeting. They took the time to help me and my son understand how they could help and what we needed to do. I was scared and had no direction. They were calm and provided the comfort and support I needed. I went there and the second night I was there there was a woman continuously coughing and blowing her nose. This coughing would not stop which I was completely unable to sleep and I felt I may catch her sickness. I have emphysema and if I cought this womans sickness with continuous coughing I will need Hospitalization because of it.I told the woman working at their family shelter that I couldn't stay because I didn't want to become sick,her reply to me was that this was a homeless shelter. My opinion was this may be a homeless shelter but staying here isn't worth risking my life with my medical conditions. I feel this is just one branch on the tree of our wonderful Government trying to kill off the poor. I went to BLM land I felt safer. There was no AC and no blowing fan in the room,nothing like stagnant germs especially from the sick people there.
