I spent from 9 AM to 5 PM four days in a row last month visiting my dad, and got a real feel for the place. The building is older, but it is clean. They have two sections - a secure section and a regular section. I was not in the secure section, so I can't speak to it. The regular rooms held two patients, each with their own TV and closet; each room of two patients shared a bathroom. The showers were down the hall. Patients who were able went to the dining area for meals while others ate in their rooms. All meals had two menu item choices, plus patients could order other always available options like a grilled cheese sandwich or a hamburger and fries. In addition, there were coolers near the nursing station which hold snacks like pudding, juice, etc. for residents, and cookies/ graham crackers were also available. There was an interior courtyard where patients could sit outside and get some sun - or shade, during the summer. There were several activities available per day and the calendars were printed in both English and Spanish.
The facility provided physical therapy and occupational therapy Monday-Friday and there was also a Social Services manager (Terry) who was very helpful explaining Medicare billing, providing updates on my dad's situation, and just generally guiding us through they system.
Without exception, the staff were cheerful and helpful and very compassionate. When my dad was able to walk more, the staff noticed and spoke encouragingly to him about his improving mobility.
Not only was the care that my father received exceptional, but I frequently saw the staff interacting with other patients - and always in the same compassionate, caring and encouraging way. I hope he won't fall and need to go to rehab again, but if he does, Yuma Nursing Center will be our choice. They did a great job! read more
