Garth is great! I bought a home constructed in the 70s with a number of cracks in the foundation and plaster that has cracked and broken away from the foundation on the outside of the home. I've worried for years about these cracks, even more so after the earthquake a few years ago. I finally contacted Garth to do a structural inspection. We were in UT for a short time to see some houses. We had noticed some basement slab cracks in photos of one house of interest, and had gone by the house prior to our scheduled tour and looked through the windows and sliding glass door. I was concerned and did a search for local Structural Engineers. I found Garth Haslem's website and called him. He answered on a Saturday morning and I had a great discussion with him about my concerns. He agreed to meet us later that afternoon when our tour was scheduled and give us a verbal assessment for a reasonable price. He ended up spending more time with us as we went around the outside and through the inside of the house, looking closely at the foundation's footing from outside and through the inside looking for signs of any foundation issues. He gave us some detail in his explanation, and an easy to understand, "If it were me, I'd make decision 'X'.", which is exactly what we needed to know so that we could decide if we should further consider this house or not.
