One of my favorite CrossFit gyms in the area. I'm a drop in on Long Island so it's nice to have a place to go when I need too. I had the pleasure of working with 3 different coaches so far and each have been equally knowledgeable, friendly and professional. Highly recommend for anyone to come. They are definitely good for any beginners looking to give crossfit a try! read more

CrossFit Stony Brook - Trainers Near Me - Saint James, New York

The atmosphere here is so welcoming! I just joined this gym because I needed a further push. I was going to planet fitness which was nice although I had no idea what I was doing and I was not getting results. I chose this specific crossfit gym because it's close to my house and I love the setup of it. It's a transformed garage with a huge opening to transition inside and outside together. The owner, Mike, is absolutely fantastic! He is very thorough when he explains how to do a workout and pushes you without making you feel like you can't say "I need a break." The other coaches there are equally as welcoming and easy going. Since I've been working out here I've felt muscles burn that I didn't even know I had! I am so happy I found a gym that I love so much! read more

NCFIT has been nothing short of amazing. The culture, professionalism and environment are fantastic. I've always been super intimated by CrossFit, and all the coaches have taken their time to train me and build my confidence as well as strength. I highly recommend trying one class, you will not regret it. I know I haven't!! read more

I have worked out in many gyms in my life, and never have I gotten my butt kicked so well as I have at Crossfit Stonybrook. The workouts are tough but the trainers are caring and really make sure you do everything safely and without risk of injury. On top of it being a fantastic workout with fantastic guidance, the other members at the gym are very helpful and encouraging as well. Nothing beats this gym! read more

I recently just joined this gym. It's great. The instructor, John was very friendly and very funny. It is a pretty laid back gym, but it leaves you feeling great and wanting more. The gym is a lot smaller than the last crossfit gym I was a part of. (Had to leave because I moved) it is slightly cluttered, but the atmosphere makes up for it. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming. I look forward to working out here more often! read more

This place is a hidden gem in stony Brook. Great facility. Excellent staff. They have kids classes that work with my schedule. The people in the classes (other customers) are awesome. What a great place! Not the normal same old gym. The coaches care about your improvements and are there the whole way to help. You wont feel out of place from beginner to expert like in other facilities. I look forward to many more great workouts! read more

Member at Stony Brook location (Summer 2014) I was hesitant to join. I've always been more of a 'head down, headphones in' type of person when I exercise. If you know anything about Crossfit, you know of the 'cult' following it gets from the members. Well, the atmosphere there was definitely not what I was used to when working out. The trainers really look to get the most out of each member. They are quick to learn everyone's names, and are over everyone's shoulder to make sure you're doing what is needed. At the same time, they don't push too hard. The trainers know the limits of each member, and are good at making sure they push you just enough. I was going 5+ days a week, and after my hour workout, I felt like I was going to die/I felt great. And I kept going back for more, and after 2.5 months, I was arguably in the best shape of my life. The exercises were always changed up, so I never knew what to expect (even though I could easily have gone online to see what the exercises for the day were), and I would never be bored. There online functionality was great as well - it was easy to keep track of how you performed, so you could try to do better next time (thought, sometimes it was a good 3 or 4 weeks before we would repeat an exact exercise routine). Everyone was very friendly. The other members, in addition to the staff, were all eager to help each other out. Ultimately, it became a bit too expensive for me. I had also changed jobs and now get an early train into NYC, and the schedule just doesn't work for me anymore. But even if that were the case, I don't know if I would have continued. The 'lifestyle' just wasn't what I was into. This is at NO fault of the gym, the staff or the members. As I said before, Crossfit ends up getting a 'cult' following, and it works great for most people. It just wasn't for me. read more

Excellent facility with extremely knowledgeable staff. I have been participating at the gym for almost 2 1/2 years. Dynamic, challenging workouts closely overseen by dedicated staff. Totally enjoy the community environment participating in CrossFit Open, Barbell for Boobs Fundraiser, Murph Challenge and the annual CrossFit Stony Brook Throw Down! read more

CrossFit Stony Brook is an excellent gym run by excellent people. The owner clearly wants to better the community and really cares about making sure that all the members live healthy lifestyles. This is not a gym for the faint of heart - but if you want to live with intensity, this is a good start. read more

I started out on a groupon and now am a officially a crossfit stony brook athlete. All the coaches are great and the classes are fun & challenging and make me feel like a warrior when I am leaving! As a women, I never really new how to 'lift'. I couldn't even do a push up when I started. I love that the men and women (of all ages and sizes) do the same work out but the workout can be altered based on what people can do. The coaches guide me and push me a little further then I think I can go. I really enjoy the environment and people. I highly recommend crossfit in Stony Brook! read more

This is a great place. I just recently started going and in the 10 or so times I've gone no 2 workouts have been the same. The trainers are friendly and knowledgeable and the other members are friendly and supportive which makes it a great atmosphere. Most important I've really noticed a difference in my body and daily energy level since I started going. Just wish I had started sooner. read more

They have the worlds best bootcamp here. I have done it twice and loved it both times. When I first started in July i couldn't run at all. Last weekend I did my first 5k! The coaches are really supportive and truly want you to reach your goals. I also like that each time I come the workout is different so it never gets boring. read more

I joined Crossfit Stony Brook in September and was a bit apprehensive considering it is not a typical gym and like nothing I had ever done before. I never expected to be doing something called burpees, clean and jerk, handstand push ups or climb a rope. Michael, the owner, and the rest of the trainers, work with each member individually to modify the exercise based on their abilities. Michael asured me that in time I would be able to do all the excercises . It hasn't been easy and sometimes I don't want to get out of bed the next day, but he was right. Just last week I climbed the rope 15 feet to the top with no help. The classes are small and everyone is very supportive of each other. If your looking for something different, I would highly recommend Crossfit Stony Brook. You will never be bored of the same old workout. read more

This box makes it clear that crossfit is for everyone. The coaches and members are all super friendly, supportive, and knowledgeable. After a draining day at work I sometimes can't imagine how I'll muster up the energy for these high intensity workouts but as soon as I walk through the door I am instantly reminded how contagious the energy is at this place! I'm 2 months in and loving the gains. read more

I have to laugh when I meet someone that is overweight, out of shape, and then they tell me they're a personal trainer! Well, this does NOT describe the hands on owner Mike DeNicola. He is knowledgable, enthusiastic, and a fabulous role model for kids and young adults. Before signing up anywhere else, it pays to visit him in person. You won't be sorry. read more

This gym is O.K., I dropped in here while my gym was under construction. I was greeted nicely but the head coach ( I think he was the owner) seemed very distracted by one of his friends or girlfriends that was there, I couldn't tell. He coached our class but seemed very, very distracted. The work out wasn't that great and they didn't keep up on form. I was in about a week ago. read more

I had 4 kids in 4 years, my last one 6 months ago. I wanted to get back into shape when my last daughter was 6 weeks old, but knew I did not want to go to a regular gym and run the treadmill and motivate myself. With a recommendation from my sister in law, I tried Crossfit Stony Brook. Reluctant and nervous and not even knowing how to jump rope, I took my first class. The motivation and personal interest of each and every coach is nothing short of amazing! I started one class a week in a size 10 to 4 classes a week in a size 6. Between the personal training and the camaraderie of every member I look forward to the next class the second I walk out the door. Each coach trains you as if you are the only person in the room. They took the time and patience with me knowing what my strengths and weaknesses were. Not only am I able to jump rope, I can now do double unders, something I never thought I would be able to do! Recently I signed up for the Crossfit Open to help push myself past my weaknesses and do more of what I never thought I would be capable of. The second workout for the open came out and first on it was an overhead squat of 65 pounds, something I knew I could not do, I was so bummed I was out before I even started. My coach would not allow me to think that way, told me to come in for some one on one training, told me he would be there for me to see me reach my goal. I went in not being able to do more than 35 pounds to two days later doing an overhead squat of 65 pounds! I did it! I even got some reps in and was able to continue to participate in the open. Again I did something I never thought I would be able to. I love this place and all they have done for me!!! read more
