It hasn't been too crowded, thankfully. They over organize the swimming, as I have one son that likes to swim by himself and it's over kill scheduling him 1 hour at a time. I'm just thankful he can go there. My one concern is if you work in the city and don't get home until 6 pm....swimming options are limited and if that's your thing, evaluate carefully. They have many other things going on there, but we are still scratching the surface. Benefits outweigh the costs!

Worst gym I've ever been to…read more This was the case before the 2025 renovations. It's worsened since then. They've got 40 treadmills, of which only ten are ever occupied. They have a lot of often unoccupied weight machines as well. These two assets are positioned on the inside of a running track, while the room with some other machines and all of the free weights is separate. In the weight room, they removed nearly all the good weight benches and replaced them with a bizarre variety which are too high for most men and have unstable pads (imagine benching without digging your feet in while the pad under you wobbles. They're dangerous). They removed several of the most popular machine extensions for seemingly no reason, including a long rope handle that was nearly always in use. They do not have a proper squat setup (with a padded floor) anywhere. They have a few extra djanky setups, like a rowing handle connector which is in fact just a carabiner which is forced into an angle by the machine connector and does not allow an attached handle to be held naturally. Shortly after the terrible renovations and gear shift which significantly degraded the quality of the gym, they put some big old ads up on 65. I guess it's supposed to be an improvement. I'm still in awe at how they made it worse. I don't know who's making the decisions but they seem to be somehow unaware of how their customers use their weight and cardio equipment. Demand and supply are whack (popular equipment is swamped and a lot of equipment is almost never used) and also the choice of equipment is sus - not a lot of people who resistance train even at an amateur level would've picked those benches.

I spent a year or longer after moving to Pittsburgh attending classes in many different gyms around the city. I've found other establishments that I enjoy and get great work outs in and click with the coaches but no one compares to the service received at Panthro from Chris and his team. Chris is passionate and knowledgeable in what he does with clients. Not only have I seen some of the best results in my body but feel great and know I'm at the strongest I've been. No doubt I'm going into 30 in the best shape of my life. Chris frequently checks in and remembers problem areas or things I have been working on. If I'm having trouble with an area, he is quick to suggest and demonstrate specific stretches and adjust any of the days work out to ensure the best and most effective experience. Seriously cannot recommend this place enough!! I have 2-3 gyms on my list that I love in Pittsburgh but hands down, Panthro is it! It's small, intimate and such a welcoming gym. I've taken classes with Chris and Casey but trust that Chris brings the best coaches to his team!

Class experience: Whether strength or bootcamp, every class feels new, thoughtful, and carefully designed to work my body. The trainers are always very helpful in providing modifications to exercises to accommodate injuries. The trainers also are helpful in providing feedback on form and motivation. For me, it feels like I have my own personal trainer for a fraction of the price. Community: Not only are the trainers amazing at Panthro, but the people who go to Panthro are as well. When you go to Panthro, you also join a friendly and encouraging community. Results: My body is noticeably different now from when I started. I am stronger and have better muscle definition--receiving multiple compliments from friends and family. The result I appreciate the most is a significant reduction in injuries and recovery times. Pulling a muscle in my back at home? Nope Fatigued after a vigorous day of yard work or helping someone move? Nada. My main motivation for going to the gym is to care for my body and enable me to live my best life--Panthro certainly provides that value for me.

I moved to Pittsburgh a few months ago and wanted to find a local gym. I've lived in MANY cities…read moreand been a member at MANY gyms, so I know what I want and need. As I researched nearby gyms prior to my move, Altus stood out - they had great reviews online and their philosophy/program offering seemed to align with what I was seeking. John was very responsive to my initial inquiry and after I got settled, I went to meet him for an initial consult. Our conversation gave me full confidence this was the place for me. I love strength training, so I wanted to work with a trainer to get me back into the routine of lifting weights, but I need flexibility - I travel frequently for work and often have to book trips last minute. During our conversation, we talked through everything - my history with strength training, my work and travel schedule, nutrition, injuries, goals, expectations, budget --- it was the most thorough consult I've had with any gym. I also had a preliminary session to determine my baseline (strength, range of motion, etc.) and get all the data measurements, which we use and remeasure to track my progress over time. Now that I've been going to Altus for a few months, I can genuinely say the entire experience - and Altus team - have been amazing. I immediately felt welcome and I appreciate the trainers so much. I've been working with Aaron for my individual sessions and squad sessions and it's been great. He's truly a 'coach' in that we're always talking through each set (about my form, the muscle groups we're focused on, how I'm feeling after each set, why we're doing certain things, etc.) -- it's educational, engaging, and fun. And he's always flexible with my crazy work schedule - accommodating changes when I have to go out of town, providing workouts through the mobile app that I can do virtually when I'm gone, squeezing in sessions when nothing about my availability is 'normal', and checking in regularly between sessions to see how I'm doing. I've also joined several classes and they're always fun - Heather, Cheri, Brandi --they'll kick your butt, but you'll love every minute of it. :) the Versa climber was a new piece of equipment for me --- it's killer but awesome! If you're looking for a gym that will focus on what you need and trainers who will champion you every step of the way to reaching your goals --- head over to Altus. They're the best!

I was surprised to find Altus in downtown Pittsburgh, located between a couple of fast food…read morerestaurants. I wasn't sure what to expect, but it completely exceeded my expectations! I signed up for a Versa climber 45 minute class (FYI - you can sign up for your first class for free). When I walked up the steps of the studio, I was blown away by the entire gym setup, in addition to the classrooms. They truly have something for everyone! When I signed in for class, I was given a heart monitor to track my workout and taken back to the climber room. The instructor, Cody, was so welcoming and full of energy! I was a little worried since this was my first time taking this type of class, and he made me feel so comfortable and continued to motivate us throughout the entire 45 minutes of class. This workout was HARD, but I felt so good after and would definitely come back to Altus to check out their other options in the future
