Writing an amended review for everyone's safety…read more This business responded and tried to tell me in very blatant terms that I was unqualified to share my experience the way I did. The reason why everything I said was CORRECT is because I worked with two different certified Olympic coaches who also competed and placed nationally. Getting a bunch of certifications doesn't guarantee that anyone actually understands how the body moves and what types of injuries will cause which limitations or which muscles will compensate for what weaknesses or imbalances. Juan should have also been able to tell immediately that I have hypermobility and that it will affect some of my lifts based on how I was performing, but sadly he had no idea. Have seen multiple lifters on their Instagram with poor form and having to use PL belts to pull very little to average weight. Of course we do not know if they have prior injuries but I have a feeling these things were maybe not discussed in depth... As someone who has lifted with true professionals in the past, and has a lot of connections to sports and movement specialists in the OC area, I would not recommend this place if you have pre-existing injuries and are looking for coaching on basic OR advanced lifts. EDIT since they wanna be petty: You can also tell the level of in professionalism in Juan's responses--referring to me as an "elitist" when my only complaint was people getting injured, and the fact that I saw PROOF that people were injured lmao, and also the fake prying for more "clarification" is so cringe. Please go find another gym that knows what they're doing and can take feedback in kind. Update as of 7/22/2021: Right after the owner saw my honest review, a burner account decided to creep on my personal social media and bully me in my message requests, I started getting creeps on my Insta stories, and I also got a creepy Yelp message. I will be looking into pursuing legal action. Don't let this happen to you, and just avoid this place. They could be taking the time to better themselves but instead they're bullying a 20-something Asian girl online, as a full fledged business. How embarrassing. Update as of 7/23/2021: The people at this "business" are continuing to creep on my personal social media and are flooding their Yelp page with reviews by their friends and "partners" (READ: they get free membership while you pay them $200/month). If your coach pushes you to injury and then dismisses you when you bring up that injury, they are not a good coach, period. Coaches need to be able to take feedback because the end goal is YOU, the client, NOT Juan's ego. You're not paying for his ego to be stroked, you're paying for professional guidance to reach your goals. Remember that.

The classes have a suggested workout (but you are free to flex it as needed), and the coaches (Shawn, Romark and Martins) are endless perfectionist when it comes to form. The community is super welcoming and everyone cheers people on and helps either with tips or just helping you move weights around. Shawn and Martins really helped me focus on the fundamentals of my squat and deadlift. I have a lot of bad habits to break, and they are constantly trying to help cue me to improve. The equipment is fairly new as well as most of it being from the rogue brand. The community is pretty welcoming even though it's a very small establishment. The biggest complaints are how the business aspect is structured, workouts you pay for, and a staff member. The business aspect was weird like set appointments pay later but like I definitely could of booked the appointment, worked out, and walked out without paying. Now obviously I didn't do that but there are people like that in the world who would take advantage of a situation like that. Next The session you pay for... soooo it's $50-60 for a day pass, once we started working out it was minutes passed the start time, "time is money" and felt like I was cheated a bit, session's are usually an Hour and a half my session started at 5 we began like at 515 and we literally did 3 workouts so kind of a bummer left with no pump and confused on $50 for 3 workouts! Now for the last complaint the staff member. Our coach for that session was Shawn Couch. When working out there was no real demonstration. It was like hey "this is the work out now do it" type of deal. For instance if a person who is a first time lifter walks in doing these lifts with no knowledge or form practice they can seriously injure themselves, and when he did "demonstrate" he took a person of the class to demonstrate it but still comment on what they are doing wrong. It goes with saying if you want something done right you have to do it yourself but he definitely wasn't about that life. He seemed more frustrated about how we weren't lifting correctly than to show us how it's actually done or supposed to look. At the end of our session he demanded that we put everything back, but it was said in a manner of I'm better than you I'm not helping you and walked out. I'm definitely coming back again to see/feel the vibe from the other coaches. I feel that this gym has major potential! But has to rid of certain things for it to blow up. I was a student in the same class as Korbi, and since her review describes a class I was standing…read morein the middle of, I wanted to add what I saw. It was the morning class and it had ten students. There were two first-timers that day: Korbi and another woman named Camille. Jason led the warm-up doing every movement himself in front of the room. He then walked us through the strength portion and the workout of the day (WOD), demonstrating each movement. During the strength portion he moved around the room giving feedback. During the WOD he circulated continuously giving students feedback. For context, my station/area was directly in front of hers, so I had a clear view for the entire workout. Before the clock started, while Jason was coordinating where everyone would be working out, she suddenly began the workout on her own. He then explained we weren't starting yet to which she responded, loudly, "I just don't get why we're all standing around doing nothing!" He explained again that the WOD is timed and he'd start the clock once everyone was placed. Then another student offered, "If you get lost, just watch me, we're at the same station doing the same thing." Once we started working out, she did a different number of reps than the ones that were written, she skipped movements, and totally worked out of order. I'm not sure what happened, maybe she wasn't paying attention when he went over the movements. The workout ran 11 minutes; she worked roughly six of them. In those six minutes I watched Jason go to her three separate times. Each time he corrected her form, demonstrated the movements again, and when she got it, told her "Good job." He also made sure she knew what the correct order was. Camille (also brand new that day and working right next to her) completed the whole workout and did it correctly. Jason also demonstrated some of the movements for her too, but in Camille's case it all went smoothly. The last time Jason came over to help Korbi, she had stopped doing the workout and was sitting on the floor texting on her phone. To his credit, he still tried to help, but she raised her voice at him and left the gym. I'll grant her this much, a Crossfit class for a first-timer can be intimidating, and I can't speak to how she felt from the inside, but from the outside she very resistant to Jason's instructions. In her review she says she repeatedly asked classmates for help, and I was three feet away -- she barely spoke to any of us, including the person who directly offered to guide her. Just so folks know, I'm not affiliated with the gym. I'm just a member who happened to be standing there and what I saw was an instructor trying to help a student by explaining/demonstrating the movements, checking in that student repeatedly in a short time, and the student responding rudely and walking out. For a more accurate assessment of this Crossfit gym, there are plenty of other reviews on this page worth reading.
