Definitely not a land person, but I'm all about challenging myself and trying something new. I used to hear from a lot of people that CrossFit wasn't good for you because people don't really care about form, so it leads to injury. It's definitely not the case here, you have coaches here who watch over you and make sure you're doing exercises properly before adding weights or furthering your progression. I've learned a lot! I was worried about coming in and being completely lost, but I had been in contact with Jason beforehand and I wasn't lost one bit in the two free sessions I came in. Right away, he was there to guide me. Jason was very patient and super encouraging! I absolutely love the atmosphere in here. There is a team sense, you just have to be willing to speak up and talk to people here. They're all super kind and supportive. If you are a beginner, they adjust the exercises for you and challenge you every day so that you can have better performance. I've always been a spectator when it comes to sports and never a participant but last August I decided to make a change and sign up for a Crossfit by my house. Still far from an athlete I've learned to LOVE getting a daily WOD in. Recently, I was introduced to a new box in town - Crossfit Illuminati - which is more convenient because I can come straight from work and make the 5:30 class and so glad I joined this box! Coach Jason is the box's main coach and he knows his stuff - he's not only detailed in teaching us the proper techniques (from burpees to air squats to thrusters and deadlifts) but he is also very patient with novices to Crossfit. Jason gives one-on-one attention to the beginners and also provides constructive feedback to the regulars on how to improve their form. There's a sense of camaraderie at this box the moment you walk through the door. Everyone knows each other's names and as the last person is finishing up their last rep, the group cheers him/her on to push through. You don't get this at an ordinary gym like LifeTime Fitness or 24 Hour Fitness. The monthly membership is very affordable! Compared to the other boxes in town that charge a minimum of $150, CF Illuminati is LESS than $100 a month for UNLIMITED classes. I've been coming here since it first opened, and honestly everyday feels like its my first day. I've played football, fought mma, ice hockey, soccer, and weight trained so i thought i would be just fine...... boy was i wrong! I get my butt kicked, yet i come back for more the next day. Coach Jason, Coach O, and Coach Blanca are truly amazing. This is their passion, this is their life, so they'll help you with every single small movement to insure the fact that you wont get injured. I love the one on one instructions that they provide. They'll also push you to your limits making sure you get the best workout all day everyday. I love the fact that everyone at the gym knows each other by name. I've made so many new friends at this box. The feeling of walking in somewhere and not feeling like you don't belong DOES NOT exist here. This is everyone's second home. I would recommend this gym to anyone in a heartbeat. I have been doing CrossFit for a few years and I just moved to Houston looking for a new gym. I've been at CrossFit Illuminati for about a month now and love it! They just switch gyms to a much larger facility and it is so nice with lots of equipment. Plus Jason (the owner) is super welcoming and approachable. The trainers here work with you step by step whether you are an experience crossfitter or a new one, they treat everyone the same. They show you each move and proper form and weight for each individual person for every class, every day, and for everyone. They help push you in a optimistic way to reach higher goals and lift heavier weight. The Wodify app is super helpful in keeping track of your progress here at Crossfit Illuminati. The trainers remember your name after your first class and they keep track of what weight you lift, so don't cheat and be afraid to go heavier! I was always intimidated by CrossFit. I use to think it was only for super fit people. My friend convinced me to give it a try since they offer 3 free classes. The coaches and members here made me feel so welcome. The coaches made my workouts shorter for the first few classes to ease me into it and modified the movements I couldn't do to where I was working the same muscles the rest of the class were working. CFI is a superior CrossFit box. The coaches are serious about helping members grow, challenge themselves, and succeed. The members are regular, friendly folks who encourage each other. And the workouts are challenging enough that you'll find yourself on the floor at the end, huffing and puffing, wondering how you had such a good time getting your butt kicked!
