MY HAPPY 2nd Home!! Started here at the beginning of the year and have found happiness in not only the workouts but the atmosphere, the community, the support and overall vibe. Not only was I welcomed right away but so was my entire family. Even when transitioning to a new owner, it still continued seamlessly. Coaches and members are genuine, knowledgeable, helpful and inspiring. It's more than "just a gym", more than "just a box", it's more than "just getting a workout in"...it's a lifestyle that's exciting to transition into with warm inviting people who instantly make you feel comfortable and like you can achieve anything you set your mind to! I highly recommend you give it a try!

Wasn't planning on doing crossfit on our trip down to Disneyland but while visiting family in Elk Grove, the drop in fee for CF916 was affordable so it was a no brainer to drop in. Christina was an excellent coach and the facility was big and clean. Thank you everyone for being welcoming and awesome!

    Friendly in house competition!

I started at this box as a total beginner in January and I love it! The trainers are super patient and genuinely care that you make progress. They push you to do as much as you can do, but NEVER at the expense of proper form and safety. They also have strength classes three days per week that are really intense, but a lot of fun. We do a lot of other fun things as a group and everyone is really inclusive.

This place is amazing! Don't expect to workout here and hate it, well, maybe during but after- there's nothing but pure glory knowing you finished. The trainers are absolutely amazing, they push and encourage you to do your best while everyone else cheers you on. Great group of folks! Try it out, just try not to get addicted!

You won't regret trying out 916. Not only are the trainers knowledgeable and interested in making sure you get in a great workout injury free, but they make sure you are comfortable and welcomed. I am 34, and on the best shape I have been in since high school, maybe even of my life. I started just after having my second baby and haven't looked back. My husband followed a few months after me, and now my whole family loves the gym. My kids take part in CF kids and have a blast doing it. They have a great example in fitness in watching us exercise and in doing it themselves. Bring your family (or just yourself!) and have fun getting in shape!

My journey started 3 years ago this month with my 15 yr old son in tow I walked my 45 year old, busted knees and 386lb body into the box and we weren't met with disapproving disgusted looks we were met with sincere greetings, support and well wishers. I just recently returned after a 3 month absence and my fist day back the Love and Support was still there. You're NEVER going to experience a better torturous and agonizing experience anywhere else that adds an incredible supportive team that is willing to work with you due to your skill level. Anyone and Everyone is Welcomed with open and supportive arms, and it shows. I'm glad and Honored to be a part of the team I mean CF916 Family.

I am super happy and proud to be a part of the Crossfit 916 Family & I couldn't ask for a better group of awesome people to workout with. I look forward to coming everyday and always get excited seeing everyone. I love the support we show one another from the coaches to each member. My life is better with Crossfit 916 and I'm thankful to be a part of it. I'm excited to see this gym thrive and looking forward to what's the come every single day. Thanks to all the awesome coaches Aaron Almendariz, Von Discipulo , Andrew Purcell, Amber St Claire, David Benavides (for Erika) & C.d. McTaggart (for Dennis) & each & every one of you for making this gym the BEST GYM in Elk Grove! . I would recommend this gym to anyone interested in trying Crossfit for the first time. With great coaches you get great results!

I've been at the camp for ALMOST TWO YEARS now and it has changed my life. I've lost over 60lbs…read moresince joining and I wake up everyday excited to workout and build my strength. The trainers care about you as an individual and know that each person has their own journey and battles and never prescribe a "one size fits all" mentality to their training methods. You can modify when you need to. You can be pushed to your best and you are given the best pep talks through it all. I've successfully completed Spartan races and hopped over 6ft walls because of the trainers believing in me. I've ran half marathons because I've met so many amazing people here that keep pushing me to do more! This place has changed my life. The community inside is a family and I'm so thankful for this place existing and showing me that fitness is for everyone!

I have been debating whether or not I wanted to write a review about The Camp. On one hand, I have…read moremany good memories here and working out felt fun. Some of the trainers and all of the front office staff are amazing and kind. Shout out to Taylor and Andres. I think the owners had good intentions in mind and poured a substantial amount of themselves into the camp. However, the amount of pain (months after leaving the camp) and frustration I have encountered far outweighs the good. I came into the camp with some mild pain in my back that came and went as well as knee pain. Certain things would aggravate it. One of the trainers at the camp is incredibly pushy and does not listen. One of my first trainings at this gym with this trainer, she was asking the group to do something that I knew would worsen the pain- when she saw I was not doing the exercise she pushed me to do it and when I tried to explain that I couldn't she said "can't is a word not allowed here...that will be 10 burpees" without allowing me to explain. Repeating that phrase several times when I just stood there, shocked, until she let it go and moved on. I have had multiple other negative experiences with her-at one point I came into the gym with a cardiac monitor I had to wear for two weeks and she seemed annoyed that I even showed up because I could not get the monitor wet( mild moisture and work outs were ok). After that first session I told her about my back pain, so she was aware. However, she kept pushing when I told her that I did not think I could do something. I avoided her classes but still ran into her at one of my final classes there. She pushed me to do deadlifts (a major trigger for me) with heavier weights even after I told her that was not a good idea. She would not take no for an answer. This caused the worst back pain I have even experienced with shooting pain down my leg. I am still recovering from it. The blame is not fully on her. I did the deadlifts, I am aware that I needed to advocate better for myself. However, this is not an acceptable way for a trainer to act. After every one of her classes I left feeling weak and ashamed. I know I am not the only one who has had complaints about this trainer. A different trainer prided himself on doing the workout with the class. Are you working out or teaching? How can you keep an eye on what everyone is doing when you are also working out? I am not talking a little hammer curl...I am talking full on burpees. This trainer seemed annoyed with me when I asked him to turn the music down or asked for modifications. He would not give me even a second of his time to voice my concerns. Overall, The Camp's model in my opinion is overly focused on lifting the most heavy weights possible in a loud and fast paced environment. When classes are smaller, it is possible for trainers to keep a close eye on form. However, financially, small classes are not feasible (this place is at the brink of shutting down) and it seems that in larger classes it is difficult to ensure safe form. I remember one of my final classes I looked up at the other people in my group and we had no idea what we were doing. There were not enough appropriate sized weights for everybody. It was loud and hectic, almost impossible to get the attention of the trainer because the music was so loud. About the loud music...there were members who wore ear plugs because it was so loud. My Apple Watch warned me of high decibels almost every training I attended. Did I bring up my concerns to the owners? Sure did. I was told nothing could be done about the music-even though it was difficult to hear what the trainer was saying even when they were right next to you. Regarding my concern with coaches not modifying work outs and being pushy? I was told to choose a different coach's classes to attend and attributed to "personality differences" (also challenging because I could only attend evenings of some days). This gym is not open all day. When I shared concerns regarding my pain and that I wanted to stop attending classes due to the advice of my physical therapist, I was told I probably have a herniated disk and should see my doctor as well as a chiropractor ( and to look into the "fascinating history of chiropractics" when I brought up the lack of evidence in most chiropractic practices), and the advice of my PT was dismissed. FYI, my doctor referred me to PT in the first place. Disheartening behavior coming from a healthcare professional. Coaches also push members to buy work out supplements advertising them as "weight burning" among other claims...this is not science based and is taking advantage of people who trust you. As healthcare professionals, how can you support such claims being made in your business? I realize that, sadly, this is normal for the fitness industry.

You have to turn on the sauna for maybe 5-10 minutes so it can warm up to your desired temperature. They recommend the sauna be 120F for best results. There are different types of workouts, and from what I remember there was cycing, glutes, and iso--just to name a few. Each sauna room seems to accommodate up to 3 people. You can reserve a class ahead of time and complete your workout. The more workouts you complete and the more calories you burn, you earn points to redeem towards items. The iso workout was like 30-45 minutes long. It was actually very challenging. For a workout in which I usually would be able to complete outside of a sauna, inside of the sauna, it was WAY harder, and I came out of the workout DRENCHED in sweat. Outside of the rooms, there are cubbies where you can place your items in. They have cameras on the inside of the building so that can help with the safety of your items in the cubbies. They do offer little life alert lanyards that you can bring into your workout in case you're alone and worry about your safety--whether from the workout or your personal safety. I highly recommend bringing your water bottle and a towel (they do provide towels but there may be a charge). You WILL get easily dehydrated because you are sweating so much. However, the sweating made me feel very relaxed at the end of the workout. I would love to do their workouts again in the future. Some criticisms I saw when I read about the Hotworx workouts in figuring out if I should join or not, is that the workout videos don't change very often and that people wished the instructors provided alternate movements for movements that may be more difficult for people. Just some things I've noticed in figuring out if I should commit to classes. The staff were very friendly in explaining how the facility runs. The showers are the same, but might've had a deep clean, we've not been here in months, but some noticeable improvements seem to be there in the women's bathroom. But the shower area floors (and the hallways leading to the showers) were soaking wet and truly a safety issue, a major slip and fall hazard which is quite concerning. No staff was seen in the women's locker room at all in the 1.5-2 hours I was there changing, then going to work out and then coming back to shower, etc. Staff at front desk was welcoming, but didn't see any staff cleaning at all, and janitorial staff (assuming there are some at this huge location) can't keep up and/or have not done a thorough job. It's always crowded here regardless of time of day and so the cleanliness is a huge issue. Dropping off the younger one to the kids' club, there was nothing really for him to do since there's no basketball hoop (kids sized or one of those portable ones filled w/sand/water in the bottom) and there's only that indoor play structure/netted cubes thing that he's outgrown, so he ended up reading while we worked out which kind of defeated the purposes for him to go exercise. In the back, there's the swimming pool which certainly is big and there several of them, people do their lap swimming here, and there's a more recreation pool too, so that's another nice feature in the warmer months and those are frequently packed. B/C of this the floor is even more wet in spring through fall months when the pools are open, so maybe more mopping up every couple of hours or for a staff to check or even just leave a mop for members to mop up the wet floor is a good idea so people don't slip and fall in the locker rooms. Overall, some slight improvements since our last visit, but can still use more consistent cleaning and upkeep.

Sunday morning: 30+ people waiting for ONE basketball court, while another full court was reserved for volleyball with just one person using it. This isn't a one-time issue -- it's clear mismanagement of limited space. When dozens of paying members are standing around and an entire court sits basically empty, something is seriously wrong. Scheduling courts by preset sport type instead of actual demand makes zero sense. It leads to overcrowding, frustration, and people walking out. And no, renting a court is not a solution. Members are already paying monthly fees. Being told to pay extra for space that's clearly underused -- especially by a rude staff member -- just makes it worse. Around 11:30 I went to court 3, I saw a lot of people shooting the hoop in 40+ ft up, and that kid was still playing solo there. And the gym still allowed it. What a joke. If you care about actually being able to use the facilities you pay for, think twice before joining.
