This box is established in 2005 and holds the title to be the first CrossFit box here in Sydney…read more I came to the 8am class because they were the only box that listed that they had a class being offered every 30 minutes. But when I got here I was informed that just for the holiday week they were offering classes only by the hour. I got here half an hour early so I used that time to stretch out and check out the facility. My coach was super welcoming and helpful from start to end. Our WOD to start was the following: 3 Rounds 10 Push Ups 200m Row 5-10 Pull Ups Stretching Out 3 Rounds of 200m Runs down their marked alley way. We were timed by our coach to warm up for the 1st run but encouraged to improve our time each round. I ran the 1st in 1:54. 2nd run in 1:23. Then the 3rd in 1:24. Then we worked in weights by working on our Push Press broken down by movement of unracking the barbell on our back and lifting up, down, up on the coaches cue. We moved onto Back Squats where we would sit on a box jump, hold for 3 seconds, and then stand back up. We wrapped up by completing a full Back Squat and also holding down at our squat for 3 seconds then driving up with a surge. We completed the WOD by moving to the red mat area to do the following: 3 Rounds of 10 reps of the Ab rolls and then 10 reps on the GHD. Everyone was super friendly and it felt pretty spectacular to get a CrossFit workout in while visiting Sydney.

This is different than a gym and works to compete against previous and group times, often using weight and body training and minimal commercial gym equipment. So if you're a beginner, and need a focused fitness regime the Strength and Conditioning protocols will suit any fitness goals from sport specific beginner to elite athlete, outdoor pursuits, daily life cardio and rehabilitation from injury. The experienced trainers will guide you through the methodology, and take small steps to improve your fitness levels. If you're interested as I was, give them a call and organise a free introductory session of Strength and Conditioning methodology, which is available to all individuals with a focus on creating functional strength movements, strength endurance, anaerobic and aerobic recovery, with a balanced diet. They're very professional, and polite without being overly pushy. It's a welcoming environment where you can learn technique and even read up on eating habits, posture and breathing techniques.

After 10 years loyalty to Fitness First there was a need for a change however determining a gym or…read moresports club to attend is time consuming when thinking of cost, style of gym, trainers, equipment and other logistics. With the intention of fulfilling the mission to trial several in the local area and writing/reviewing for Yelp, I have only managed to get to Joe's Garage Gym. Here is why? Joe's Garage Gym is straightforward. Small group fitness training that is intense, rewarding and where you are always learning new skills. There are four types of fitness classes that can be easily booked online which are Cardio training, Conditioning, Strength training and boxing. These classes rotate weekly. The gym community is unique to Joe's Garage Gym and the fitter members in the gym are encouraging and not intimidating which makes for a good culture and gym environment. There are also classes for kids. Joe Bonington is hands on with every aspect of his gym and provides a wealth of experience in Nutrition, Health and Fitness. He is a presenter, facilitator, public speaker and leadership coach and has a network of fitness industry contacts that can assure you to meet all your health and fitness goals.Si Bennett is his Strength and Conditioning coach and certified Power/Weightlifting and Boxing coach. Both are personable and love seeing you progress with results as much as you do. Trek and Altitude training and Personal training is also conducted at Joe's Garage Gym and since being there I have witness members undertaking Ultra marathons, a Kilimanjaro trek and presently a fellow gym member is racing across the North Pole. Yes I have yet to experience and review Xtend Barre in Mosman, Lift of Flight in Balgowlah. I guess Ive been too happy with what I now call my Gym.

Previously this place had Limited equipment that was either outdated or just plain useless. The gym is in the heart of Town Hall so had massive crowds. Often had 3 people hovering over you waiting to pounce when you finished. The gym has now become a platinum Fitness First which is a good thing considering its smaller then most and can't handle too many people. With that said they have expanded it in size a small bit thanks to the Monorail station being taken down. In its place they have created a small room with gymnastic equipment that looks really cool. They have an awesome looking climbing frame that looks straight out of Gladiators or a tough mudder course. This gym has definitely improved now and would use it when I'm in Town Hall and in need of a bit of pumping.

Even with a clear email trail, they refused to fix their mistake, demanding I remember the specific name of the staff member who served me: - Requested cancellation in-club; staff failed to action it on their system. - Despite showing an email paper trail proving the cancellation, management refused to concede. - Staff on the phone deflected responsibility by demanding I recall the specific name of the employee I originally spoke to. - In the end, I'm forced to pay roughly $120 in unauthorized "outstanding" fees just to close the account for a gym I hadn't used. GIRLS - CAMPERDOWN FITNESS HAS GHD'S IN THEIR CHANGEROOMS…read more If this first sentence isn't a game-changer for you, then this review may be helpless. But for me, this was the little feature that had me asking "So where do I sign up?" The gym in itself is pretty nice. One giant warehouse style room, the gym is filled with a plentiful supply of cardio machines (treadmills, X-trainers, bikes and steps), and four spacious weights divisions dedicated to working different parts of the body - back, arms, legs and free weights. Upstairs is a stretching room and a ladies only area. Whilst I appreciate the idea of a ladies only area, this section of the gym is by far its worst. Whereas the rest of the gym is filled with light and is bouncing with music coming from the plasma screen dancing with trashy video clips (or the news, if you so choose), the ladies room is dark, dingy and quiet, with no speakers meaning that the only sound is that that manages to make its way upstairs from the downstairs speakers. Camperdown Fitness also offers your regular gym classes (Boxing, Spin, Yoga, etc.) which are included in your membership, and the trainers are mostly pretty good. Also, whilst you take some time for yourself in a yoga class, your kids can wait in the kid's playroom in the room next door. All the staff have always got a smile for you and seem to know when you don't want to be approached, so there's no fear of them coming and offering unwanted advice. In saying that, they are also helpful if you need them to be, and a few free Personal Training sessions are included in any membership. But, all this aside, Camperdown Fitness has GHDs in the ladies change-rooms. This means not having to go home between gym and work, gym and date, or gym and any further plans. Alternatively, it also means not having to carry your hair straightener around with you all day or risking leaving it behind. Camperdown Gym is the kind of gym that you want to go back to. It's clean, bright, spacious and motivating. The music isn't as terrible as it could be, the staff are great, and you can flick through the tvs at your leisure when on the cardio machines. Giant fans blast you in summer and icy-cold bubblers are dotted around the gym. Mirrors line every wall, so you're able to keep check on your own form whilst watching others without getting caught out. The main negative point is that its large glass front walls are positioned directly in front of a bus stop, so every person on Parramatta Rd is watching whilst you slog it out, running and sweating, flushed and panting. But hey, they can judge all they like - at least you're exercising.
