I decided to take my partner here for an early valentines dinner.
I was highly reccomended by two of my customers to visit the cross keys ombersley as the food was said to be very good.
At first glance on entry to the pub it was very pleasing and with a nice atmosphere with a relaxing area for pre-dinner drinks.
The dining area was lovley and we started on our starters which was the same walnut crushed goats cheese in which it was lovley, then followed by two t-bone steaks.
This is where the nightmare began!!!
I had medium well and my partner asked for medium rare.
My steak was rated as ok in my opinion and nothing to write home about, or did it melt in my mouth,my partners FIRST steak was tough even with a steak knife it was hard to cut through and was almost cooked to the same level as mine medium well, not too much pink if you get the drift.
As you guess we asked it to be taken back and they did and replaced the veg.I was part way though my meal, but felt embarrassed they didnt ask to take both meals away to re-cook so we could eat together rather than my partner having to eat on her own.I held my lip.
Anyway a further steak was cooked and it was TERRIBLE with a capital "T"!!!
It was very fatty an really pink pink!!!!!!
We were aproached by the manager we think who was hardly symphathetic then as the night went on found out she owned the establishment.
In my disgust the owner presented us in some sort of education of where the steak meat is from and on what part of the cow,as if we dindnt know at 40years of age and as if weve never eaten steak in our life!!!
Then,in front of me she started cutting it up on my partners plate as if she was 6yrs with sausages on her plate,i couldnt believe my eyes and she was trying to explain to us the steak was fine and the chef had 40yrs experience..
It didnt wash with us, it was a very bad ,bad cut irrespective of the chefs 40years
Not forgetting we dine weekly in various steak grill establishments and know what the differences in the various cuts of meat we were gobsmaked what we were witnessing.
However on a final note we didnt pay for the one steak and was even given complimentry desserts which were sticky toffee pudding which were truly amazing.
Would i go again here im sorry no i wouldnt.... read more
