I did reaad the mixed reviews on TripAdvisor, but decided to give it a go…read more I booked, and also had another e-mail to confirm I was definitely keeping the booking. Three of us arrived 15 minutes early, and not a problem. Shown to our table, and left with the food menus amd wine menu. Our friend chose the wine, and I had a lager shandy. Friend and my wife had a double gin and tonic and large glass of pinot grigio, respectively. When the bottle of wine turned up, it came with one of those containers that are supposed to keep the wine cooled. My friend asked for a wine bucket with ice and water. No problem said the waiter. Appeared back almost immediately. Service was good and atttentive. Drinks: Gordons Gin (double) - 5.80 Pinot Grigio (250ml) - 7.60 2 x Amstel shandies - 9.60 1 x brandy for the Affogato - 3.90 Fevetree Tonic Water - 2.80 Starters: 2 x Mushrooms with blue cheese - 16.50 Tacos for me, but can't remember what it said about them - 7.95 All of enjoy them. Mains: 2 x Lamb - 35.90 1 x beef - 17.95 They came roast potatoes, butter mashed potatoes, carrots, brocolli, and cauliflower. All cooked perfectly, and on a separate dish for us to help ourselves. We never managed to polish them off. Friend request extra gravy and it was there in an instant. Sweets: Sticky toffee pudding - 5.25 Affocatto (with the added brandy above, in a separate glass an espresso coffee and vanilla ice cream - 5.25 Friend had an Americano coffee - 3.10 Added £10 to the bill for the service. Had a really good time, with a little banter with the waiting staff. Clearly we'll definitely return.

Not going to lie, I was disappointed with this place. The people who referred us to the restaurant…read moreare regular foodies and have great taste, so I suppose you could say that I had high expectations. It was good that we booked ahead, as the place was packed. The menu was relatively strange, with an odd selection of dishes. All the food was pretty heavy and with few to none light, starter dishes. It took our food nearly an hour to come out. Good thing I opted to share a main with someone as the portions here are ridiculously large. Even split in half, neither of us could finish our dishes. Our dessert was pretty "meh." we ordered the lemon curd "yogurt" and berries, but the yogurt was more of a cream consistency. Definitely nothing to rave about. Also, it was so hot in this pub, we all had to leave for a breath of fresh air at some point. Don't get me wrong, I love the whole "cozy" feeling, but we were absolutely roasting.

When I told everyone I was going to Worcester for the weekend from Edinburgh, I got a whole lot of…read more"WHY?"s. Well, here's one reason. Jerk. The outdoor seating at The Firefly... on an evening in England where the day had been 26 degrees (got Celsius!) made me think that maybe, just maybe, if all of England was perfect like this everyday they would still rule the world. The colonies would want to be owned again (sans slavery and oppression etc.). But I digress, that shit will never happen... so we need to ignore this ideal of a perfect England, and just take the pub as a perfect pub. Reasons for perfection: (see photos) The front room: fireplace, antique chandelier, old tyme-y lampshades, big red velvet couches, a moose head over the fireplace and ARE YOU F**KING SERIOUS - Brooklyn Lager. My favorite beer in the world. And I know I am an exaggerator, and I know I say "my favorite (insert something here) ever" all the time. But for real, this is the greatest tasting lager of the entirety of the history of beer (in my humble opinion). The downstairs: Apparently they have bands down here, they didn't this night... but it was a proper looking porn-like lounge area with giant sofas and a good looking stage where you could definitely see some mediocre bands up really close before they sell out. Sometimes, not often, but sometimes, the bands play outside. Yes, I said it. The MFing outdoor garden: I have this friend, his name is Jack Johnson, maybe you've heard of him. Maybe (probably) you're sick of him because most of his songs sound alike. It's also pretty likely that you'd give anything for his life, I know I would. If I had minimal talent like him I would totally move to Hawaii, surf and sing songs about making pancakes for girls and playing my guitar all day while working on my tan in a hammock. But again, I digress - why don't you guys stop me when I do that? - The garden here looks like an old fashioned surf lounge where guys with long hair (rebels!) and tattoos (scandal!) sit with beers and talk about waves. Jack, would fit in here... and I could even stand to listen to Banana Pancakes (once, just once) while I am sitting on the couches with my feet up next to the lanterns LOVING my totally chill life. Worcester is a two thumbs up all you naysayers! So there.
