The City Gallery can be seen as a stand alone building from the street, but you have to enter…read morethrough the Arts Center, then hang a left to get in. Very easy to find. Oh, and the library is right across the street. Pretty nice size gallery with a very nice "cash and carry" gift section that starts at the front counter and rounds itself to the back, where you'll find additional prints for sale. Jewelry, ceramics for everyday use (mugs, dishes, etc) and decoration, ornaments and more can be found here. Upstairs you'll find handy bathrooms and another gallery of about the same size, usually exhibiting a different artist. I didn't personally like the exhibits at the time, but if I lived in the area or visit Lexington again, I'll definitely stop in for a visit.

Please seek it out if you're interested in purchasing art. The owner is an artist herself and is often rushing between teaching at private lessons, classes at UK,classes at the Montessori school, and so on. If that is the person that was rude to you, believe me, she would bend over backwards and apologize profusely. She is just that nice. This gallery has work from many local artists, as well as some who aren't local --paintings, prints, jewelry, sculpture, ceramics, etc. It's a good place to get art at a reasonable price--"reasonable" meaning fair to both artist and buyer. I'm not sure if I'd call it a "traditional" gallery, but then again I'm not an expert in *gallery management*. I'm sorry the visitor from CA had a bad experience. I hope he'll give it another try.

We had not been to Arts Place and had not heard of the Red Barn Radio but I am glad a friend…read moreinvited us last night. We saw the Red Barn radio show and it was fantastic! The artist was a award-winning Instrumentalist. The shows are on Wednesday nights at 7 pm and just cost $10. My husband and I are are sad that we have not known of this musical venue in our own backyard! Blakeley Burger the featured artist has studied fiddle/violin for 15 years, as well as guitar and mandolin. For the past seven years, she has performed regionally as both a soloist and an ensemble member at a range of venues, including: the Kentucky Center for the Arts, the Frazier History Museum, the Norton Center for the Arts, the Lexington Opera House, the Iroquois Amphitheatre, the Brown Theatre, the Station Inn, the Country Music Hall of Fame, and the Red Barn radio. Blakeley has been honored by the North American Country Music Association, the Tennessee/Georgia Country and Gospel Music Association, and the Twin Lakes National Fiddle Contest. She can be seen touring with Tin Whiskey Sisters or performing locally with Yapa! and Hollow Bone. Blakeley is currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Violin Performance with a minor in Spanish at the University of Louisville. Great show Blakely and friends!
