Oh, and the library is right across the street. Pretty nice size gallery with a very nice "cash and carry" gift section that starts at the front counter and rounds itself to the back, where you'll find additional prints for sale. Jewelry, ceramics for everyday use (mugs, dishes, etc) and decoration, ornaments and more can be found here. Upstairs you'll find handy bathrooms and another gallery of about the same size, usually exhibiting a different artist. I didn't personally like the exhibits at the time, but if I lived in the area or visit Lexington again, I'll definitely stop in for a visit.

I enjoy the variety of exhibits they bring in and how they tend to showcase local artists. I believe there is artist space upstairs that I assume can be rented but I'm not sure of that. Most recently I brought my boys ages 7&8 for leaf printing. They had a lot of fun making the prints and coloring stamps. They had a great time. After we wandered over to the small park to the side of the house and they played on the jungle gym equipment. Further up the hill on the same grounds is the Castlewood pool and a splash pad for those hot days. Definitely worth checking out.

However, when 'locally bought', homegrown, and Kentucky Proud have become mainstays in our everyday lives, it seems prudent that I write a review for a KY Proud store that doesn't involve food or libation. Though I must admit, both are two of my favorite guilty pleasures. Homegrown Collective is a local store on Southland Dr that I first became aware of due to a news segment In my hometown of Owensboro. It involved a local speed painter named Aaron Kizer doing one of his many charity works. I must admit it caught my eye because many of his paintings are UK bball themed and I wasn't quite over our loss to those guys from Ohio yet. I believe I posted a pic of his autographed work by Jack 'goose' Givens, Tony Delk, and maybe Jeff Sheppard. Sorry for the backstory, but now about this gem of a shop that only adds to the eclectic value that Southland Dr is already exuding in locally owned treasures. Upon walking into the store you are nearly overwhelmed and awestruck by the metal sculptures and vast array of prints... ranging from popculture and modern, they also have original locally produced paintings that seem to bring the essence of Jackson Polluck back to life. For the wild child from the flower child to something you may even buy your mom... Homegrown Collective offers an array of art and goods ranging from women's clothing (dresses, shorts, Ts) , art of all forms obviously, lotions & potions, jewelry, the tie dyed stuff as my granny says, collectibles from toys (goonies anyone? !) and Michael Jackson on Money! If that's not enough, there's more than I can mention from smoke products like bowls, hookahs, and that smokeless tobacco product puffer thingy. Yes, That's the technical term! Finally, I bought an abstract art piece that incorporates ripped off bud light labels! So pleased it will go in the man cave of my new home, I went back and bought two more pieces. I spent my entire day shopping on Southland Dr... as good as lunch was at Winchells, the friendliness of the staff here and my obvious elation with my purchases made my day. True story. Real deal.
