It was a wonderful experience. I had PT and OT every day beginning 11/16. My call bell was almost always answered immediately. The night staff did not smile or talk much but they always helped me in the way I needed or asked for. I had never been hospitalized before other than maternity. Scar tissue starts forming immediately after surgery so PT and OT are vital Immediately, not a week down the road when the VNA can schedule home visits. I was considered a hifi functioning patient so could have returned home. I'm so glad I opted for North Hill Rehab. There is no way my needs could be met at home in such a timely fashion.

They took a genuine interest in my goals and plotted continually towards my success. I felt empowered to test my limits within the confines of safety. The food was good. Visitors were impressed when they came by. I was assigned an incredible doctor who was very knowledgeable with years of practice under her belt. Despite the cultural pitfalls of the general lack of privacy one must endure to survive a nursing facility, the staff really did the work to try to make things go as smoothly as possible. It was clean. No bugs or rodents. I never had anything stolen. I would definitely recommend Sherrill House.

In my ten days at the Beth Israel I went from the ICU to Quarantine for the next infection. The team of doctors at the hospital told me repeatedly that I caught these infections from my staying at North End Rehab.My brother was taking care of me at home caught this and ended up in Brigham hospital for five days but he didn't get the pneumonia.Thank you North End Rehab for taking out a family like they care.Get this now I've been home since 4/15 and in the hospital in another rehab to recover from North End Rehab and all this time they're collecting my monthly disability benefits insurance into their TD CHECKING ACCOUNT 9555 Last four and I couldn't believe it.While I was paying them rent for my stay, they had their doctor lie behind myself and my families backs say that I couldn't manage my own money. So they continued to bill me and collect my disability benefits at the same time. It's fair to say what they were doing was wrong and unethical and unethical I was told this by Social Security.They have no shame and offer no help and believe me I was nothing but a cash cow for them to nine months. I had to make my own appointment and arrangements otherwise it wouldn't happen.Physical therapy was non existent and the only relationship was with my dog Bart.On my first night home after discharge, I spent it in a urine soaked wheelchair watching tv. My aunt has…read morelived there for several years, I have visited many times, and I have NEVER seen any evidence of vermin, broken things, etc. Both the facilities and my aunt's apartment are in pristine shape every time I've visited; any problems with apartments are fixed promptly, and the staff takes great care in keeping everything not only in top-notch shape, but well decorated and pleasant. It's not perfect - no place is - but the relatively small problems at OC do not in any way overshadow the friendly and helpful staff, good food, interesting and useful programs (including performances, art classes, book club, talks on various topics, etc.). I looked at numerous elder communities with my aunt before she moved here, and you will not find anything better (although you will find others that are also excellent - the final choice is determined by location, cost, environment, and personal preference). I would not at all hesitate at all to choose OC for an elder community!

The location was a bit hard to find because there were separate buildings to the nursing home. Upon entrance, the smell of nasties, if I may, was a bit overwhelming. I've been to/volunteered at a couple of nursing homes before. This place by far was the best! The room my aunt stayed in was a bit cramped as she was sharing it with another elderly patient. My aunt couldn't sleep well every night because the neighbor was really loud. And they charge about $3/day to watch tv. A bit weird and sad... The good thing about this place is that the nurses were very attending. Because my aunt only speak Cantonese, she was not able to communicate. The nurse asked me to ask whether my aunt is in pain and she would give her medicine if she is. I thought that was very nice. You really have to be attending and caring to be working at a facility like this!

There are a lot of positive things to say about the experience my mother had at Brookdale over the…read more3 1/2 years she lived there. The folks who provide support and assistance were amazing, especially Filomena Lawless and Steve Murphy. Filomena offers such kindness to both residents and their families, and for that I am forever grateful. Steve was a text away, offering quick responses and helping us find who best to speak to in a few cases. The care staff in Assisted Living were incredibly helpful, especially Darlene and Mom's favorite caregiver, Bob, and kept a close eye on Mom's health, even picking up on health issues she hid from us. Mom made a wonderful friend and cribbage companion during her time there, a late in life relationship whose loss was particularly difficult for her. When she had problems with her room, both in independent and assisted living, the staff responded quickly and they were easy to interact with and very friendly. Joe, the man who provides transport, was always ready with a friendly joke and appropriate teasing and always brought a smile to Mom's face. He also brought her several cards after she was out of the buidling for a health issue. The front desk staff were helpful. So why only three stars? Mom was never very happy about the overall food quality on a day to day basis. Given the rental cost and the fact that that cost increased every year, we would have been happy to pay the increase if there were tangible improvements. During the time she lived there, whenever I would talk to local folks about Brookdale, especially people who had family there, the food quality seemed to be a common theme. The biggest complaint I have came at the end of her stay. At that point, you know that despite the friendliness and care of so many people, ultimately this is a business designed to make money and answer to a board of directors. Mom had to enter a hospital and then a rehab facility and we were hopeful for a time she would be able to return to her apartment. Once it was clear we needed to vacate her apartment, we began the process of recovering rent and assisted living care costs that had been automatically withdrawn from her checking account, per Brookdale's policy. At that point, she was in a rehab facility that was no longer covered by insurance, so she was in need of those funds, amounting to thousands of dollars. Each time we attempted to get an answer about the timeline, we received a different answer about how the process worked and when we would receive her refund. When we tried face to face meetings to that end, the director became testy. It took a full two months after she was completely moved out of Brookdale to finally have the funds in our hands. Bottom line: there are a lot of positive things about this facility, but beware it is a corporation - slow to change and respond.

The nurses are incompetent and the aids spend most of tgere time on there phones. Call lights are rarely responded to. Speaking with the higher level administrators was eye opening. No one is competent there. I am a medical professional and know what adequate care is. This facility was reported to the authorities.

To see the interactions the staff has with the residents is very heart warming. They are very loving and attentive towards all the residents. They always have a kind word to say about my mother and will relay any funny antidotes they have concerning her. They are on top of her medical needs, aware of any changes she may exhibit, keeping me informed as to what is going on with her. I, as my mother's guardian, along with my mother have an excellent relationship with all the staff, from the receptionists at the front desk to the nurses, CNAs and social worker that take care of her. The bookkeeper that handles her account is also a peach! I can call her any time about any question and I will get an answer. She is very knowledgeable. These are just some of the people at Port who have made her stay there enjoyable.
