The staff are kind of friendly. Not super friendly. But friendly enough. For large parcels there's a hatch to pop your stuff in, and they tend to be pretty efficient so there aren't too large queues. Note: if you have cash, you can pop out to the Royal Mail Delivery Centre off Ayr Rd to do you posting. But you might as well do it here.

There are three sets of service desks: Self-service, business, travel and everything else. I forget how they labelled this one but it seemed to be for just regular non-business customers. There was a long queue when I arrived but they cleared it pretty quickly, I don't think I waited as much as five minutes to post my parcel. The staff member helping me was friendly and helpful enough although not very on the ball. He did try to sell me a credit card which I've not seen before but maybe this is a new thing to try to get the Post Office to make more money. They also have some stationary and bits and pieces on sale, things like jiffy bags and bubble wrap and they're advertising a deak at the moment where you can get cheap travel insurance when you get your travel money with them. It's handy enough if you're in the city centre but it's a little but chaotic and I suspect at peak times those queues get really long.

A great little post office and general stores, I called in there today to send a parcel. The staff…read morewere very pleasant and helpful and I ended up buying several things I'm so easily tempted to spend money!! For a small shop it has a good range of things, from groceries and confectionery to greetings cards and postcards of Glasgow, to magazines and newspapers. You can play the national lottery here or have some photocopying done; there's a Bureau de Change within the post office area and a passport photo service offered too. There's a large car park just down the side to the left of the shop which is very handy because it's almost impossible to park on the main road.

Today I was hoping to post a parcel to Australia only to be told after a 10+ minute wait in the queue that I wasn't allowed to post jewellery to Australia. Whaaaaatttttttttt? I have posted literally 100s of parcels to Australia before and have never had this issue. So yeh, I couldn't send my parcel. I found the service to be pretty poor at handling this and thought the staff could have been nicer about it, but maybe they were having a crappy day. Apparently (after a bit of googling), Royal Mail says you can't post jewellery to Australia but this doesn't actually seem to be mentioned by Australian customs/Australia Post anywhere. So I have no idea where this ridiculous rule came from. This Post Office is inside the RS McColl store so if you need to buy posting supplies, you need to pay for them at the front counter and then got to the Post Office counter. Personally, I'll be sticking with the Post Office at Harvie Avenue from now on as their service is a lot better.

Now though, the post office is franchised to the Spar that it co-locates with. Result being, it's the Spar staff who now man the post office counter. Which is great. They know what they're doing and they're just plain nice whilst they're doing it! Not much else to say really, it sells stamps, takes in packages and does most of the range of post office services. This is a typical combination post-office-cum-corner store deal, they sell cards, stationery, newspapers and small gifty things to distract you as you're waiting in the inevitable queue for the post office counters at the back. The staff seemed very cheery, even under the pressure of Christmas postings, and there was a good bit of banter going on between them, so it was difficult for anyone to get cross over the length of the queue. With all 5 counters on the go, things moved along pretty quickly anyway. Top tip - remember to go to the right when you enter as that's where the post office queue starts. It's difficult to see it behind the rack of cards and it is tempting to go down the left-hand side. But you'll be sorry if you do!

It isn't characterised by great customer service. It's somewhere between the wee sort of Post Office you get stuck onto a tobacconist up the back and an actual wee shop. I use it often enough through paranoia that my letters dont get where they're going with the new size/weight specification for letters, otherwise I doubt I would ever bother going.

Good customer service can put a spring in the step of an otherwise drab day. Nothing cheers you up like being faced with a complete stranger who goes over and above their job requirements to be kind and helpful, simply because they want to make your day that bit easier. I was on the receiving end of such service last week, when I visited the post office on St Vincent Street to send a hideously stressful parcel of very important documents halfway across the world by parcel force priority. I was served by a man called Colin who was helpful and knowledgeable way beyond the call of duty, even though it was near closing time on a Friday. He made the situation much less stressful as a result. So Colin, I wish to thank you for taking pride in your job. Not being able to post my parcel, or doing it incorrectly, would have resulted in disastrous consequences. You can go to bed at night knowing you really have made a difference.
