Not here, I was always greeted with a smile! These days, I don't post as many parcels but the staff still know me by name, and they have good chat as well. They are really helpful with any banking questions you have as well, like yesterday I wasn't sure about banking a cheque but they were able to tell me exactly what to bring down with me (a deposit slip, I would never have thought of that!). The shop is small and has a big supply of chocolates as well as most of the newspapers, and some basics you might need for cooking dinner. I don't tend to go here to do shopping though, I just use the quick and friendly post office services as well as getting cash out sometimes.

It's…read morevery handy for getting your posting done while you're shopping, and as I mentioned in my McColl's review you need to pay for any posting bags etc at the front counter before you go to the post office section. The staff are kind of friendly. Not super friendly. But friendly enough. For large parcels there's a hatch to pop your stuff in, and they tend to be pretty efficient so there aren't too large queues. Note: if you have cash, you can pop out to the Royal Mail Delivery Centre off Ayr Rd to do you posting. But you might as well do it here.

For a small shop it has a good range of things, from groceries and confectionery to greetings cards and postcards of Glasgow, to magazines and newspapers. You can play the national lottery here or have some photocopying done; there's a Bureau de Change within the post office area and a passport photo service offered too. There's a large car park just down the side to the left of the shop which is very handy because it's almost impossible to park on the main road.

I went in here today to post a bottle of aftershave to my Brother for his birthday. The box was…read morelarger than the aftershave as I had put a card in too. I was asked what I was posting, I told the guy, aftershave. He asked me was it 100ml, I said I didn't know. He asked did I buy it and I said yes. He also asked was I posting it to myself and I said no, why would I do that? He couldn't believe that I didn't know what size the bottle was. I also told him that it was in the original packing and just placed in a box with paper on either side to stop it from moving. I showed him a rough size and he still wouldn't post it. I then went online to the post office guides and found out that I can post aftershave after all. All you can do here is send parcels or buy stamps. That's it. It's bizarre, but this Post Office sticks in my mind more than others, and in all honesty I quite like it as I can imagine that I'm an extra from Mad Max when I'm in here, sending out a few postcards before a dangerous trip out on the wasteland.

There's no 'Birthday's' or 'Thorntons' concessionary here trying to take advantage of poor sods who've only just remembered an important card or parcel worthy event. Best of all, due to it's bleakness and purely functional purpose, it's usually really quiet and the few people who may be queued do so in an orderly fashion. There's no dilly or dallying going on. No-one jumping in and out of the queue in order to pick up some vitally needed bendy pen with fluff stuck to it's top or some such nonsense. No sir. It's a small local Post Office with allows you to post stuff. Bravo.

There are so many lovely things in the shop that I wish I'd had more time that day to browse properly. There are good quality gifts of many kinds including toys, handbags, picture frames, books and ornaments. There is also a nice range of greetings cards. You can also pick up a large interesting leaflet about local tourist attractions around the town. I hadn't realised it was such a beautiful area and I shall visit again soon when I have more time available. I'll make a bee-line back to this shop too and buy some of their lovely gifts!

The West Nile Street post office is a medium sized, quite busy branch but I think they manage it…read moreok. There are three sets of service desks: Self-service, business, travel and everything else. I forget how they labelled this one but it seemed to be for just regular non-business customers. There was a long queue when I arrived but they cleared it pretty quickly, I don't think I waited as much as five minutes to post my parcel. The staff member helping me was friendly and helpful enough although not very on the ball. He did try to sell me a credit card which I've not seen before but maybe this is a new thing to try to get the Post Office to make more money. They also have some stationary and bits and pieces on sale, things like jiffy bags and bubble wrap and they're advertising a deak at the moment where you can get cheap travel insurance when you get your travel money with them. It's handy enough if you're in the city centre but it's a little but chaotic and I suspect at peak times those queues get really long.
