Had dinner in the Crooked River Restaurant on Fri 2 Jan 14
We arrived at 6.50pm for a 7.00 pm booking, but the front door was locked....we wandered around the back, opened the kitchen door, oops, then back around to the front verandah & entered through the sliding verandah door.
Lovely setting with window views over the valley. Restaurant is very clean with lots of space. Set dinner menu of $60 for entree & main, $72 for 3 courses
Good selection on menu, very unique & sounded delicious, although waitress unsure of one item was & had to go & ask. Didn't bother us too much though
Initial service was ordinary - we had to flag over waitress for drinks. It was a hot night & I was looking forward to a cold beer starter of their own brewed Uncle Joes Pale Ale, but was told there was no cold beer. Waitress then just left without taking a drinks order. Returned a some minutes later & said they had cold Cascade Light.
We ordered 2 courses I had entree of pork belly , & main of braised beef , & my wife had entree of pate, & main of shoulder of lamb. Both courses very well presented, & tasty, but mains were very small.....about same size as entrees.
Had beautiful CR Black Top Shiraz with meal. Excellent wine & good value
Seemed to pay as much for the artistry of the presentation of the food, as for the quality & quantity. Waitresses very friendly & happy, but seemed rushed.
Coffee orders overlooked....we waited about 20 mins before they realised we had been forgotten.
Would give 4.5 for food presentation, 4 for for quality/ quantity. 2.5-3 for service - average 3.5 stars read more
