I first found Strey Designs at an art show almost 2 years ago and splurged on one of her Ragamuffin backpacks - and I have used it nearly every day since and it looks even more amazing than the day I got it as the leather has become softer and developed even more character. Since my first purchase - I have become a frequent visitor to Strey Designs studio at Northrup King Building. I worked with Strey on designing a custom bag (picking out my specific leathers/fabric/strap combos) and it was so fun to visit the studio. Through visiting the studio Sarah explained her design and manufacturing process, helped me understand how the various leathers will age, leather care, how to use all of the adaptable straps many of her bags offer and I was able to really witness the immense passion she has for her product. My Strey Designs collection is constantly growing - as I've now purchased 3 backpacks, a wallet and a few other accessories. I constantly get compliments from strangers and friends asking me about my bags. This company has amazing design and unbelievable quality - 150% would recommend any of their products!

We were perusing her beautiful leather bags for something that'd work for our son (w/Muscular Dystrophy who uses a wheelchair full time). After hearing his needs, she offered to custom make a small bag for him. She made recommendations that would not only accommodate his physical needs, but add durability & masculine touches. The bag just arrived in the mail & we could not be more thrilled! We would highly recommend Sarah to anyone looking for quality workmanship at reasonable prices. It's obvious to see, her heart is in all that she makes:)

Boom! Mind blown!! This place is so good it's almost overwhelming the first time ya go! There are…read morejust SO many amazing things in here! I can't believe they have been open for so many years and I have never heard of them! Every year I search for an idea of what kind of ornament I'd like to make for my business team leaders. A friend had thrown out the idea of maybe a leather ornament and told me about this store. As crafty as I am, I have always been really intimidated to attempt leather due to my tingly, numb hands. I assumed it took a lot of hand strength to tool leather...and all those intricate details!! Where would I even start??!! The staff here is SO freakin amazing! Above and beyond in customer service! I went in know notta clue about anything with working with leather or even what tools I would need to start with. I put my big girl boots on and humbly let the 1st employee I could find know that I needed a TON of help! That I knew NOTHING and was determined to leave with supplies for a project. I think the gals name was Anna...maybe. She was so amazing! She patiently took me around the store to explain the differences between veggie tanned leathers and the other ones, leather stains, paints, all the decorative conches etc. After narrowing down which direction I wanted to go (precut circles that where perfect for ornaments- that were unstained, veggie tanned and perfect thickness for stamping) she proceeded to a big work table where she showed me exactly how to stamp leather, demo'd some different leather stains, and even helped me come up with a design that was simple enough that I didn't feel overwhelmed going home with to do! There was also a gentleman (dang I'm terrible at remembering name!) that was working at the table that also happened to be part of the staff. He showed me additional tips, and demonstrated even more stamps for me when I asked to see what they look like. He mentioned that every Wednesday and Saturday he is there to help people work on their projects for free! 3 1/2 hours later... I finally left with a bag full of supplies needed for my project, a small granite piece that they gave me so I don't bang up my kitchen table and the confidence to tool my 1st ever leather project. The 2nd visit: I wanted to pick up a leather stain and a few paints that caught my eye the 1st time AND needed some ideas on how to make the edges look finished and prettier. Completely different staff than the 1st day but equally as helpful and demonstrated a few different routes to go ok that as well as shared some awesome tips and favorite tools. Annnnd happily demo'd more stamps and leather stains that I was curious about. I'm just so blown away with how awesome they are at showing what different things look like!! I'm definitely planning on returning soon and checking out their classes. It's just a really amazing place!

I recommend this store to all level skilled leather craftsmen/beginners. Not everyday a store this successful shows you why they've become this successful wether it's franchise or not! Definitely my new supplier!

Wedding saved with superb customer service (including a house call)…read more My nephew was getting married at the Skyroom at Red Wing Golf Course. A few hours before the wedding, he realized had left his suit pants back at home. With no time to retrieve them, I received a call to see if there was anything I could do (I was already in Red Wing). We found Heimie's Haberdashery via the web, went there and were helped by the manager Jeff. After he heard the story, he grabbed some prospective clothes and drove the mile or so to the wedding venue, the groom OK'd the suit and pants, then Jeff measured my nephew at the venue. We drove back to Heimie's, Jeff tailored the clothes, and we took the clothes back to the venue. Wedding proceeded as planned, the bride wasn't aware that the suit had been replaced until after the wedding ceremony. Thank you Heimie's and Jeff, You were perfect for us!

I guess my questionable mountaineering skills must have made him nervous! Heimie's hero was just the Sherpa guide I needed for my mini-Everest expedition. I can't thank him enough for helping, especially since he wasn't even wearing any winter gear...just his fancy shmancy suit. Heimie's snowbank conqueror was so impeccably dressed that I'm sold on purchasing a bow tie here for my six-year-old nephew very soon. He will be going on his first official chaperoned ice cream date with a young lady determined to marry him in the future, and he specifically requested a bow tie for the event. Clearly there is a lot at stake for this very serious date, so he will need a dapper tie that is sure to impress! No pressure, Heimie's, no pressure.
