Out of all the escape rooms I have been to in Edmonton, Breakout is near the top of the list…read more On the outside, Breakout doesn't look like much. It's in an older strip mall across from the Doubletree Hotel; the windows are all covered up. When you walk into Breakout, it doesn't look like much, either. It's kind of dark and it doesn't have a very "welcoming" feel, but the people who work here are pretty friendly. Sometimes you can't judge a business based on the outside. We chose to play out "The Bomb" scenario and it was actually pretty cool - Our team was split into different rooms which makes for a very different challenge compared to other escape rooms I have been to. I won't give much away, but if you are going to do this room, make sure you have a very strong team (and people who aren't afraid of small spaces). One thing we found interesting is that Breakout and Escape City have a Loyalty Card together - you can purchase it from either business - which offers you 20% off for the cardholder at both Breakout and Escape City each time you visit, your first game with it is free, and you get to play for free on your birthday (or within a week of your birthday). I would definitely return to Breakout, but I will be trying one of the other rooms. Hopefully they are just as great as this one!

I came to Breakout Entertainment last week with a group of friends to celebrate a birthday!…read more We did the "Cube" room which was released about a month ago and so far there are no escapes! We got about 3/4 of the way through when time ran out. I honestly don't know if we could have solved it in another 45 minutes... We were stuck! The staff were fabulous and kept us entertained while waiting to start our game with brain teasers. At $25 a person, the entertainment value is pretty decent and it's cool that they have a wall of fame wall with best times and of course ever changing escape rooms to keep you coming back. I will definitely be back!

I bought 2 passes at a discounted rate to be used at an event I chose. Well I choose the event over a month ago yet my redemption codes do not work. I have tried for a month to get this resolved but no one will email or call me back to fix this. I have my receipt buying the 2 passes but are useless until someone talks to me. Also my event is now sold out which makes me even madder. So I've been essentially robbed of my $70 pass fee as I can't use them. They expire in 3 months. I also have the 14 emails I have sent this company. My last resort was to hope they see this review and care enough to get ahold of me. Carrie

Paint Nite is a great way to spend an evening with friends doing something a little different…read more Whether you're an artist, a hobbyist or just looking to try something new. Even if you go alone, you're sure to have a great time! My Paint Nite was a charity even for the Edmonton Humane Society's "Poochy Mamas" with proceeds going to EHS's. Our instructor was up beat and very encouraging. He went through the steps a little quickly but had a few assistants there to help out if need be. Whether you needed more paint or some advice they quickly were at your service. My only advice is that depending on where you're located in the room it can be difficult to see what's going on. I had to sneak a peek at others work to make sure I was doing okay! Lol... It was awesome to see everyone's masterpieces at the end! Overall my PN experience was fun!

Decided to tell our friends to book in the 6:30pm slot under "public" and see if we could fill a…read morewhole slot. Unfortunately, some people booked, paid and could not come. But instead of being able to remove them from the slot they stay in the slot and have to pay IF not one takes their slot (if someone takes their slot then they get reimbursed if that makes sense). SO our 6:30PM slot Looked full, but was not. Couple people did not come because of this - they Should have showed up in person and then would have taken the slot of the people who no-showed or could not come. Instead a group of randoms who just got out of their game ended up staying and make for a completely different experience. Some were not the kindest, most knew the best hiding spot and most dominated and ended up making it very difficult for the low skill level players. They picked us off in the first couple games so fast - it was not fun and a lot of us got Very frustrated. Place has a big reception area, orientation was clear and well done. Games were run well. Set-up inside the play area was okay but I wish there were more spots to crouch (1/2 size crates/barrels maybe). Games they selected based on how big our group was were good. Once you get into the play area it's 90minutes nonstop, some people worried about a bathroom break but you're so busy running that I don't believe anyone had time to even think about leaving. Just pee before your game (gender-specific multiple stalls washrooms available onsite) and you'll be good. Lockers inside the play area (secure) so feel free to bring your purse, water bottle (for After the game, no time during the game to drink), AND a change of clothes for after/the drive home. The men in our group Love Loved this and would 100% come back. Unfortunately, the girls (especially those with low skill level) did not have a good time and would be hesitant to come Unless we book a private slot. To book a private slot it's $500 so you need ~15 people to make it the same price as public. 10-20 people would be perfect as we went with ~35 people and it was too much - not enough corners for everyone to peek around and constantly running right into your own teammates when turning corners. 100% recommend for guys night/bachelor party and I do recommend booking Private slot unless you're an ace shot.
