About a year ago I heard something in my attic, did not know whether it was mice, bats, whatever. I was given Michael Walker's business as a suggestion. He came out, climbed into the attic and said you have bats. He spent a lot of time talking about himself and showing us photos of him on the local news. We called him this spring as he recommended and he came out and did a house sealing (for bats, rodents, etc) and a one way doors for the bats at a cost of $1500. I imagined the process would take more than an hour for that price but OK, I guess you are paying for expertise. A few days after the sealing I started to get a ton of mice in the house. I called him and he said Oh Yes, I forgot to tell you that you will get a lot of mice for a week, they are sealed into the house, put out traps. OK, we did that. About a month ago, we had another animal that needing to be caught outside. Michael said I will "give you a fair price" and bring traps. The problem is I could not get him to GIVE me a price. I spoke with he and his office manager a few times and still nothing although the traps finally showed. up. Still could not get a price. Finally caught the animal on my own with the help of a neighbor. His traps solved nothing for weeks. I guess the final problem was that we started to see many mice again. He guarantees his sealing for a year at $1500. I sent him a number of emails and made a number of phone calls. Just wanted to see if he had any ideas about the mice. Was willing to pay more. He did not bother to return any emails, any phone messages for weeks. Still have not heard from him . It's like he has dropped off the face of the earth. I would not ever recommend this guy to ANYONE if they have an issue with wildlife. I made a few calls to other wildlife businesses after this experience and none of them had much positive to say about Mike's company. One of them laughed when I mentioned who did our job. I know this is a lot of writing about this to read but it's information worth having. It take me a long time to make $1500 dollars and this was SO not worth it. I still don't even know if our bats are gone. He says there is no way to follow up on that but they usually are. WHAT? Hope this helps anyone!

I explained the situation to the guy on the phone (who works at a call center, not for the local Ehrlich branch) and he told me that they offer "guaranteed same day service" for $575. That seemed wildly steep, but I was basically forced to agree to it because their next available day would have been AT LEAST a week from the time of call. Can't say no to that...My wife is 9 months pregnant and we have a 2 year old. The guy assured me that someone would contact me and would be by TODAY BEFORE 5pm. Great. While we were waiting, the wasps created a large hole in the drywall and poured into the living room, quickly overrunning the house. At that point, I had to evacuate my very pregnant wife and 2 year old daughter and send them to her parent's house. Hours went by and there was no call from the local branch. I created an account on the website so that I could track the appointment and even called several times to confirm that a tech was coming out that day and that I had agreed to the same day service. Each time I was told that the tech had us on the list and would be reaching out soon. A couple more hours went by. It was nearing 4:30pm and still no call. It was getting later in the afternoon and I decided to start taking care of it myself to prevent even more damage being done to the house. I ran to the hardware store and purchased some wasp killer and then got to work. Despite getting stung twice, I ended up eliminating a good portion of the swarm, but I didn't cancel the service request because I needed help removing the nest from the ceiling so that my family could come back to the house. Fast forward to 7:30pm. Well past the 5PM cutoff. My family and I had made the decision to just stay the night at her parent's house. I FINALLY got a quick and informal call at a little after 7:30 where the tech said simply that he wasn't coming and that the local branch hadn't even dispatched techs to our area that day and that he'd "try and make it tomorrow" because he would be in the area. I informed him that the two hour late call was ridiculous and that my house had been overrun with wasps all day and that I had to evacuate my pregnant wife and 2 year old. All he said on the matter was "yeah, sorry. I'll try and be there at around 11am tomorrow" The guy DID end up showing up at around 11:30am. Late, but at least he showed up (hence me giving 2 stars instead of 1). He removed the nest and said that I had already taken care of most of it and then left. Today, I get the invoice in an email that my card (which you're REQUIRED to give in them in advance) had been charged for $584. Thats the "same day" rate. I didn't receive same day service. I barely received service. I called the number and after about 20 minutes, I got to talk to a real person and filed a complaint and stated that I didn't feel comfortable paying for things I didn't receive. The woman on the phone told me that she would be forwarding my complaint to their billing department and that someone would be reaching out to me in the next 30-60 minutes to follow up. Can you guess what happened next? In keeping with their brand, It's been several hours and there has been absolutely no follow up. If I don't hear back from anyone by tomorrow, I will be disputing the charge with my bank.

While they were here I inquired about how much it would cost to pest proof the trim of my house, if you live in the city of Cortland, you likely know how many woodchucks and skunks there are digging under things. The quote I got was more than reasonable. So much so that I asked a few times if they were sure. I went with the quote because of this. Having never used Sweeney's before, I though this was a low ball and they'd try to push up the price, but I figured if they were starting that low, then I would still be happy with where we ended up. I was wrong. When they came out to do the work it was clear I had been under quoted, the owner was here, asked me about how the quote went down, and I explained things, and I was expecting some negation to start then, and instead he said "I honor my quotes" he then said he'd not be making money on this project, and he would finish it, but it would be when he or his crew has time without a job lined up, and asked if I was okay with that. Of course I was. They honored their word, and their quote, and that's not something you see every day. While the quality of their work is such that I don't think I'll need to worry about either of these problems again, I will never go with another pest service after this. The quality of work, and the quality of people can not be understated here, and I will recommend them unqualifiedly for as long as I can.
