Tips: - The foodhall is worth the visit. Enter from Oxford…read moreStreet. - Candy is on the lower ground level. - If you come here around Christmas, the Christmas section is lovely. I was in London in December 2013. I visited a bunch of department stores. Part of me was curious about how they are set up versus how the flagship department stores in Canada were set up. I visited the flagship Selfridges store on Oxford Street. Rest in peace to the flagship Eaton's store in Winnipeg that I frequented often when I worked across from it. I also miss the flagship Hudson's Bay stores in Toronto and Winnipeg. I will toss in the flagship Simpsons store that preceded the Hudson's Bay. I stayed in South Kensington. There was a bus stop steps away from the hotel and around the corner from Gloucester Road station. I took the 74 Putney bus that got me to this store. I could have also taken the underground to Piccadilly Circus, but the walk would have been a bit longer. I wasn't sure how much damage I'd do here! I entered the store from Oxford Street, which gets you on the ground level. I remember seeing sushi on a convenor belt to my left. It was cool. It was Yo! I'm glad that this eatery is still around. You can dine here or do takeout. I entered the foodhall. I was so happy. I saw cupcakes, oysters, caviar, and more. Everything looked fancy and yummy. The ground floor had a beauty section and a pharmacy. This store is large. It's the second-largest department store in London, behind Harrods. I spent most of my time on the lower ground level. It's where the candy, wine, and cookshop sections are. I love candy and confections. I saw everything from macarons and chocolate malt balls, to fancy bourbon and wine. I bought some chocolate bars. They were perfect to hand out to colleagues. They were also Christmas-themed. I got milk and dark chocolate varieties. They were delicious. This floor also had a cinema. I didn't check it out. I was too busy visiting the technology and stationery sections. I was so happy on this floor. I spent the most time here. I did check out the women's clothing, which occupies levels 2 and 3. There was a lot of designer clothing. It didn't suit my casual, cheaper style. I loved coming here just before Christmas. It was festive and fun. The Christmas section was enjoyable to peruse. I have fond memories coming here. I hope to return someday. This store is over a century old and I'm pleased that it continues to endure. (49)

This place is beautiful and can be compared to a Saks store. On our visit, it was really packed and…read morecrowded since everyone was trying to get their holiday deals. Plus, it is beautiful during the holidays. The store has a total of 4 floors with a huge Jellycat Fish and Chip pop-up on the top floor. If you are here for that, be prepared to wait since it is a 2 1/2 hour wait. There is also a walk-in line if you were unable to create a reservation. Merch here is on the pricier side but if you are looking for something trendy, you can definitely find it here. Plus, there are a few food and snack locations if you get hungry while shopping your hearts away.

This place is the Holy Grail of vintage as far as I'm concerned. I ALWAYS find something I want…read morewhen I come here! The owners Sparkle & Cad are very friendly and knowledgeable, and are always happy to help if you're looking for something special. Everything they sell is hand picked, so you know there aren't going to be rails of dubious looking stock like you find in so many vintage shops nowadays. If you're looking for authentic clothing and accessories then it doesn't get better than this: everything in here is a gem! Happily there's also something for every budget, as they have a discounted section upstairs. The main floor is pricier - but worth it.

Hats, shoes, dresses, amazing pieces from 1920's-1970's, especially their 1940's/1950's collections... late 1930's Garbo hat from Ninotchka, Marilyn dress, the most amazing 1950's earrings and gloves (and I've been collecting these for some years now and they have wonderful choice) all in perfect condition and one off's! I seriously wish that shop was my cupboard... Sparkle and Cad, the owners of the place are uber friendly and all you have to do is ask and they will tell you all about the designers, eras of the items...you'll really feel million dollars to wear a dress which was worn by a Hollywood starlet of a very famous movie sometime in 1956!!! Marilyn dress is pricey but a wonderful find for a collector.. there is something for everyone and you can certainly find a bargain (especially in Hell to Pay upstairs) too (also get your self on their mailing list and see when they have a sale or special deals!)..and another thing you'll never know who you might see in there (Kate Moss,Whoopee Goldberg,Immodesty Blaize,Duffy,Paloma Faith,Eva Green, Sharleen Spiteri, to name just a few!!). Magnus do men shoes sizes from 12-16 but they don't sell men shoes in this store. Magnus sell shoes, boots, trainers slippers and party shoes. They sell Converse in girly colours which i wont be able to get in average person sports shop, i would have to resort to men ones and they don't do pink! Magnus also do long tights and socks. Their price ranges are from £40 to £180 depending on style of shoe. The cheapest would be slippers for £20. I'm not a fan of their prices, I recently got a pair of ankle boots on sale for £55 and was £89:95 before. I mean this shoes were perfect in fit and loved the look of them and was comfortable to wear. I like the fact that the width of the shoes are C fit and in the catalogue it will tell you the heel height. Oh yeah! you can order the catalogue which comes out 3 times a year. Magus shoes are not the most stylish shoes, I find some of their range a bit grannish. I mean you do find the odd gems like when when I got bought these yellow pumps which were perfect in every way and i just had to have, for £40. The shop is a small one, and all shoes are placed in foot size order, you will see the sale range in a little room at the back of the shop. The staff are professional. The shoes are from different countries in Europe, they obviously care about big footed women. The shop is situated on Chiltern street, which is full of independent shops. Magnus is across Long Tall Sally another tall women shop and a bit further down they their is another tall women shoe shop called Totally as well. So I make a day of it when i go down here. Magnus have a store in Hampstead and one in Northampton. From Mon-Sat the store open from 10:30am to 5:30pm and late night Thursday till 7:30pm. The nearest tube is Baker street and if you want to go to Oxford street its a 10min walk. I will always go into Magnus, just to find that gem of a shoe.

I wish he'd known about this store back then! Magnus specialises in shoes, workboots, wellingtons, trainers and more from Nike to Merrell with some of the sizes going up to a whopping 17! There's also flats and heels for women too although they're not especially high fashion I'm afraid girls.
