We started off with a combo of Toro belly, thinly sliced with a saucy garnish that was just heavenly, and it comes with a side of tuna tartar. More than worth the $22 for the appetizer. The melt in your mouth tuna was divine. And given the season, my fried rock shrimp are back, and those are always a crowd pleaser at the table. A burrata and fried eggplant appetizer with pesto and eggplant purée rounded out our " we wanted to sample appetizers" mood. And in the vein of not bypassing a pasta dish - shells with Jonas crab and corn in a creamy and buttery and decadent Parmesan sauce was our main course. We opted for not going for an entrée because we shared three appetizers and this stupid delicious pasta dish. Service was hilariously professional, caring and didn't miss a beat! Be advised that one quick change is the four dollar charge if you want a sample of wine before you order a glass. A practice not usually seen, however, they've institutionalized it. Just be aware that you need to go and knowing exactly what wine you want. Otherwise you'll wind up returning your glass I suppose but I don't know if they'll charge you for a full glass once you've tried it if you didn't like it. Worth asking. My wife ( Italian descent) ordered the chicken cacciatore with the pretense that the sauce was going be a standard red Italian sauce. But when her mail came out. It was an overly spicy " brown colored" sauce. My wife wasn't happy and she barely touched her meal. Totally ruin her night. I told her to order another meal, but she was in a bad mood at that point and didn't want to eat anymore. I told her to send it back, but she said forget it. I took the chicken cacciatore home and I ate it the next night. I have to say being in half Italian myself the chicken cacciatore sauce is terrible.( way too spicy, saturated with hot pepper Why wasn't it made with a standard red sauce? Is that brown sauce recipe the standard sauce uses for chicken cacciatore? I wondering if that night did Tomatoes have a stand-in short order cook preparing a chicken cacciatore meals. I think in the future , servers need to tell future customers who might order the chicken cacciatore meal that is not nade with standard Italian red sauce to avoid future customer disappointments.

The complimentary bread came with some type of an oil for dipping. I'm not sure what was in it, maybe roasted red peppers? Something as simple as letting guests know what it is would make a big difference. We asked for butter (from another server since we couldn't find ours). I ordered the Spinach Cappeletti but asked for any type of non tomato sauce. The server said the only option was Alfredo, which would be an upcharge. I'm not sure why I couldn't have just had a garlic butter or something comparable. The pasta was good but there was more sauce than pasta. The sauce was also broken and so it seemed greasy. It was supposed to have pine nuts on top but I didn't see or taste any. My mom had Pasta Pomodoro. She liked it and the portion size was generous enough that she had leftovers. Our server wasn't very friendly and didn't check back on us. I asked the hostess for more water and a to go box and she was much more cheerful. Overall, this was an average experience. We eventually ordered drinks and much later lobster ravioli we had heard raves about (but now an hour in and told sold out) but drinks good and we pivoted to Marsala and salmon, but a party of four was brought in to the bar and seated with empty dishes and glasses from previous patrons which seemed odd. Another waitress came by from restaurant and extremely short almost chastising the hostess and another waitress gave me an apologetic look as we both recognized I didn't need to hear that. Food took awhile but we're on vacation and enjoyed the atmosphere. I have zero regrets eating here and loved loved loved my meal, the historic building, sweet bartender (who needed some support or busier as the bar filled fast), and vibe of that bar surrounded by locals, and I'm from Utah only here for a weekend so that says a lot.
