Best meats in town!!!! The pork fillet's are wonderful.The meats ate always top notch, and it is our go to place for grilling supplies.

After driving by this place a thousand times and not feeling up to Costco I finally made a stop in. I was looking for pork belly, the prices seemed ok, but the cuts were kind of lacking--thus the 4 stars from me. The filet mignons were 7 a piece when I went and ribeyes were 14. I bought a couple and grilled them up that night. My taste buds aren't as sophisticated as others, but I thought both cooked up well and tasted good. After hearing of this famous "gunpowder seasoning " I opted in for 4 bucks... and yep, it's good stuff. Worth going back for by itself. I want to love this establishment but it's only subpar. While I do attend regularly, their selection is VERY limited. I can't call this a true butcher shop. If you want anything other than steak, chicken or hamburgers, you're going to be disappointed. Get the gunpowder and smoked pepper Jack cheese! Those are the only 2 reasons to go here. ‍ read more

This place is a gem and the only place to get everything from your home made Bratwursts, Hot Metts, Egg Salad, Amish Bologna as well as your Fresh Cut Steaks from Sirloin to Stris and Ribeyes to Bacon Wrapped Filets and of course do not forget your house ground Ribeye Burgers and Filet Burgers before you checkout! Can not say enough good things. Local place that literally has THE MEATS. Sorry Arby's ya suck. Their lunch meat and cheeses are extremely good. Way better than anything you can get at Kroger. Their bacon wrapped filets are where it's at. The meat is so tender and the bacon gives it the perfect flavor. I prefer ribeye steaks but this filet is impossible to pass up. **4 I was super excited to come into this store. I love the idea of old fashion butcher style shop and from what it look like from the outside this was it! From the view on the outside, they had a large window allowing you a small glimpse of what's to come. I oooooh'd and aaaah'd about the dried leg of pork (ham) wrapped in cheese cloth. On the side of a building they had a board where they wrote their weekly special. I go into the store, to my surprise, wasn't what I had expected it to be. I guess I overly hyped myself up at the idea of a Meat Market (like in the movies). Don't get me wrong their customer service was FANTASTIC. I imagined the place to have fully loaded stock, sausages handing to dry, and specialty meat to be provided but noooooo they barely had anything in their casings. But the thing that totally made me super unhappy was not the quality of their product but by how the place looked. On one side of the store they had machines that they no longer used and a pair of shoes was on top of it, that didn't look to appetizing. It looks like it has lots of potential if they fixed up the place a little...ok maybe a lot, I guess it's product speaks for itself and that's why people come back. Their meat was really good and way cheaper than the supermarket, and you can buy bacon wrap filet mignon for $5 bucks and andouille sausage for around the same price. Friendly staff, AMAZING selection of the freshest cut meats! Prices are out of this world, no major store can compete with them. They have 6-8oz filet mignons wrapped in bacon for $6 a pop, and when they have leftover ribeye and filet mignon, they will grind them up and season them into patties. You can get a hefty seasoned rib-eye burger for $3/ and a decent sized filet mignon burger for $2/. This place is definitely Crestwood/Louisvilles best kept secrets when it comes to meats! You can also find the seasoning "Gunpowder" here, which is incredible on any meat, and I even mix it in my butter when buttering up my corn. It has incredible flavor. If they allowed me to put more stars on this place, I would without hesitation! Just be sure to get there early if you decide to go the day before a holiday weekend! read more

Gonna hold back the 4th star from this place for now. My first visit was pretty decent. Picked up a couple of steaks, some pork belly and gunpowder seasoning. Felt a touch rushed in the tiny customer areas, but who can fault a business for timely customer service? Prices were moderate and the place seemed clean enough and pretty busy. Once I got home and cooked the steaks they were really middle of the road. Cooked them sous vide so the human error was out. I've had much better, but will try this place again. read more

Best place to buy meats in Louisville. Excellent, friendly service. Lots of information about their products and free tastings of their famous "gunpowder" seasonings. I tried that last night on their bacon wrapped fillets of beef. Excellent! So many of my friends and neighbors have been going here for their meats! I decided I had to try it. Having a dinner party and decided a tenderloin would be wonderful. In the past I have ordered from Kroger and never had any problems but wanted to try this instead. Called ahead and ordered a 5 pound trimmed tenderloin. Then they gave me a sheet with some instructions which included rubbing with "gunpowder". Hmmmm? Gunpowder? I ask and she excitedly tells me about this great rub which a little goes a long way. She offers me a taste, yum! She even exclaims it is great on popcorn! Yes I think this would be great on anything! I bought their gunpowder seasoning and a 5 pound tenderloin for $70. (Tenderloin was 70ish). Anyway, I know at Kroger it would have been closer to $100. Came home and rubbed the tenderloin with gunpowder and some fresh thyme. It was DELICIOUS! So tender and very good. The service was helpful and kind, loved the jovial vibe in there. It was so good I sent husband back today for another tenderloin for a Sunday night dinner party. I generally don't eat much red meat, but wow so good. And we had poached eggs with steak for breakfast with the left over meat. It's going to be a beefy Christmas season! The country ham here looks wonderful and I know folks rave about that. I also want to try the Amish chicken breasts! read more

Was in the mood for a good steak, so I stopped in here on the recommendation of many people. I got 2 bacon wrapped filet mignons for $6 each! Apparently that's a running deal. The real test was when we cooked them. The hubby broiled them in the oven because it was snowing and 20 degrees outside and we didn't think it would be worth it to grill them. Anyway, they were delicious! We both agreed they were on par with expensive steaks at local restaurants, if not better. Would highly recommend! read more

The 6 oz bacon wrapped fillet mignon was good at $6, there was a wide selection of meats we found interesting, but overall prices were ok not great and I am not sure we found enough to make it our regular butcher, even though it is fairly close to us. read more

I went to Crestwood Meats for the first time the other day. I have been looking for "GOOD" hot dogs since I moved here. I found them at Crestwood Meats. Store made, natural casings, just like the Broadway Market and Sahlen's Meats in Buffalo, NY. SOOOOO happy with this market. I also walked out of there with over $100 of products (paid for, of course). The beef tenderloin is so very reasonably priced and so very delicious. Amish ham - awesome. Gunpowder spice IS great on everything. I will continue to shop there. read more

I went to Crestwood meats at the recommendation of several people to get items for July 4th. The first time I called to place the order the man I spoke with was very friendly but the day of pick up the person I dealt with was abrupt. I bought a number of their steaks and ground tenderloin burgers. The filets were tough and they were not over cooked. To me a filet should be fork tender and I could hardly cut or chew it. The same withe the tenderloin burgers which had a rubbery texture even when cooked medium. I guess since the filets were tough it would make sense that the burgers would not be good. We also got some of their macaroni and potato salad which tasted about like the tubs of mass produced product you get at the grocery. I also was sick with GI symptoms for 5 days after eating this food. Needless to say I will not be back. My advice is buyer beware as I would rather pay more and get a quality and tasty product. read more

This tiny meat market is a gem! All the meat is fresh and wonderful quality. I am rather stuck on the filet mignons since they are so fantastically delicious! I use Crestwood Meats own "gun-powder" for a rub then charcoal grill them. I have yet had anyone not rave about them! The customer service is always friendly and helpful. Racist and abusive owner - I have shopped here for years and purchased large orders of meats. I receive wonderful customer service from the employees. However, today I experienced the most insulting interruption from the owner (older man). I asked one of the employees if it would be ok to purchase 14 chicken breasts and if they would be kind enough to wrap them individually along with 4 lbs of bacon. An employee responded that it was not a problem and was in the process of packaging my order when the owner noticed and proceeded to yell at his employee in front of several customers and myself. He said that the employee was to do no such thing because I should have called in advance. He said they were too busy, however, there were only three other customers besides me in there at the time and they were already being assisted. I told him I was a regular customer and one that purchases large amounts of their products. He raised his voice at me and replied that I was rude and I was not going to get individually packaged meats because I had not called in advance. It takes a only a couple of minutes to do this. He then became extremely offensive and more insulting towards me. I told him he was the one being rude and this was not an appropriate manner in which to treat his customers, especially if all I was doing was purchasing meats. He continued with his disparaging comments to the point where I had to tell him I was leaving and never coming back. As I was approaching the door to leave, I heard him yell - "Get out!" I firmly believe no person should be disrespected and attacked in this manner. Beware shoppers, especially if you don't happen to be Caucasian because the friendliness he was displaying to his Caucasian customers was quite different from mine. read more

Today was my 2nd time going to Crestwood Meats. My first time was last week. I bought 2 butterfly pork shops and 2 bacon wrapped filets last week to give them a try. The chops were very tasty but the filet was FABULOUS! I came back today and bought 2 more filets and some ground chuck. We've lived out this way since 2012. I sure wish I would have stopped sooner. As another reviewer states, the place is a little raggedy on the inside, but the service is impeccable, the butcher is a total old fashioned expert, and the meat... mmmmm... The fact that it's a local joint with local stuff (meat sourced from neighboring counties in KY and IN), with a butcher who actually knows his stuff, makes it worth the drive out to Oldham County.
