And then, once I'm there, spend the entire time, battling nerves, trying to pretend I'm fine, am like everyone else, not sweating through my clothes. Trying to act like shots of any kind don't freak me out. Add to that, that my mouth doesn't always seem to respond to the freezing the way it should. So, more often than not, I am not 100% frozen which ends up being quite painful and embarrassing. I recently returned to Victoria and had walked by Dr Pite's office quite frequently while walking my dog. Once I passed when the staff was coming back from lunch. They were laughing and seems happy, like they enjoyed their work and each other. I went home and checked them out on that MD rating site. Really good reviews. A couple days later, I was walking past with my husband and I said, Let's go here. We went in and made an appointment for a cleaning and check up. We filled out questionnaires and although I was a little nervous, it was only a cleaning. I am very good with hygiene and was hoping there would be no need for drilling or shots etc. Two weeks later, around a week before our cleaning, I bit into a wintergreen lifesaver and broke off my tooth! Panic. We called the office, but they are closed on Friday. We left a message on his cell. Keep in mind we were soon to be new patients, had never met him personally. Well, he called back and came in to the office to see me that afternoon, and filed down the sharp bits so I would be comfortable. He was very kind. The next week he was able to prepare my tooth for a crown. And I was very, very impressed. Like crazy impressed. He knew that I'd had bad experiences, he explained everything he was going to do, he jiggled my cheek for the shot and so it barely hurt and put the medicine in slowly so again it wouldn't be as uncomfortable. He checked with cold to make sure it was frozen, because I could still feel he gave me another jiggly shot, this one I almost didn't feel. He didn't start until my tooth was totally, totally numb. He offered me music which was a great idea and I was able to focus on that instead of all the drilling and noise. And it didn't hurt at all. Another first. It was the best dental experience of my life. I am 55 and for the first time, I don't feel afraid to go to my dentist and I'm real glad because he is young and that means I'll probably be dead by the time he retires and so I won't ever have to be scared again. If there was a ten star thing I could click on I would do that. Was the most stress free dentist visit I have ever had.

I feel the need to update my review, because the procedure that I had done was not successful…read more Although I didnt feel major pain or discomfort, the gum graft didn't take and the surgery is to be done again. Dr Pite and the staff were caring and I can't say anything bad about the overall service, but in the end, the success of the procedure is what matters. So I just want to make future patients aware that for this specific type of surgery that is a gum graft, I would recommend to see a periodontist who has more experience with this type of procedure.

The dentist said I had a cavity and filled the cavity. Ive been suffering since and today over 1 month later I sought another dentist referred by a close personal friend. Dr Theisen saw me on an emergency basis, gave me penicillin as my molar is extremely infected. I will return back to Dr Thesien this week to have my molar removed because its too close to my sinus to have a root canal. I am type 1 diabetic, with previous sinus surgery so the chance of having more health problems is not one i am taking. I will never go back to Hillside Dental again. Yves Provost

I feel badly for that, but unfortunately every day now is Saturday and I don't wear a watch, but still that is no excuse. Type of care - I always have dental work performed at Element Dental. They don't sell glasses, unless of course they're from the lost and found however I've yet to find a pair that has my prescription lol, so yes dental work is what I have done at my dentist office. Care and quality, second to none. I've never felt more comfortable, respected and didn't feel like I was someone that just had to go in and pay a lot of money to have an extravagant cleaning. Most dental offices, you feel like you're on conveyor belts of would you like this, would you like, record show you're due for x-rays, you have already used all of your units this year and we're only halfway through it, so everything will cost you out-of-pocket from now on! How would you like to pay today? Ok and that's just in the dentist chair, wait until you get to the reception How would you like to pay today sir, debit card, credit card or cash, no checks, please. In all seriousness elements dental in my experience in the three years, I have been going there, are second to none. I'm very happy that I came across when Idid. My previous dentist was retiring and did not think it was necessary for someone of my age or as he put it, "people our age, should be grateful, we have our original teeth in" lol. Frantically calling all of the Dentists on the map, When contacting the office I was sent to voicemail (where I was afraid of a delayed response) left a message with Elements staff wherein I described my situation. Within in 1/2 hour I received a call back that the staff had a cancellation and I could receive exam and subsequent treatment just 4 hours later. I am now back at our accommodations where the numbing has worn off. My pain, after nearly a week trying to hide it, has gone from 11 out of 10 to I still haven't taken the recommended acetometaphin or naproxin sodium. I know I will I just don't want to until absolutely need too. Dr. Evans and Dental Asst. Kim were very in tune with everything. From my fears to my expectations. In addition they assured me that they could get me through the procedure today. The team skill displayed during the procedure was very very good. No communication necessary when 2 thoroughly professional clinicians practice their craft. I'm not sure they talked at all during the procedure and I was wide awake. Kim kept me informed of everything during the procedure before it happened. I was impressed at how the Dr. Evans allowed me to feed off of his Assistant's energy as she was extremely positive and upbeat from greeting to goodbye. It was also very reassuring that he had no need to interrupt or correct his Assistant at any time. A testimony to the hours they've spent working together I'm sure. They are an exceptional team. The type of care was genuine and compassionate. So far the quality of the care has been exceptional. And I wouldn't have had the procedure performed if it hadn't been for the wonderful people at the reception staff who immediately filled in an opening with me. My son lives here in Victoria and I will be recommending that he go to elements dental with his family. In summation I could not give this office a higher recommendation. As extreme as my situation was the single most notable takeaway from this office was their compassion, from the phone call to the doctor, to the receptionist whom originally helped with her callback and heard I was checking out, came to ask "If everything had gone OK." If you're really afraid of the dentist. If you're in pain from dentistry that needs repair. If you want to be treated with compassion and care, true care, make an appointment at Elements and asked to be in the care of Dental Assistant Kim and Dr. Evans. I had a problem with two teeth beside each other Dr. Dhillon told me I would need 2 root canals. I made an appointment to come back to have that just before I went away to Mexico with four friends on a trip we've been planning for a whole year. I went in on the day before I flew out with them to what I thought was a root canal. fast forward to my 10 day vacation and I could hardly eat I couldn't shut my mouth my teeth were so sore I was on yoghurt soft foods mashed potatoes in a five-star luxury villa with Butler and access to 10 incredible fine dining experiences. I couldn't understand why my teeth hurt so much. After struggling through 10 days in pain and missing a lot of fun I returned home and called the dentist to make an appointment why I was hurting? I went in and asked the Dentist why my teeth were hurting so badly and he simply said oh I just did two giant fillings I didn't do a root canal. I was absolutely livid I just spent $5000 for a 10 day trip on a once-in-a-lifetime girls trip with the ladies I've known for 20+ years and because of his misinformation to me I suffered. He asked me to book a return appointment to get the work done and put me on antibiotics again and as I was leaving I was advised I'd have to pay I have the consultation fee I was absolutely flabbergasted I'd been there for 15 minutes and this was a problem that he had not directly fixed resulting in my trip being impacted. I wasn't going to go back but because I sent an email ( as I wanted everything written down) saying I was frustrated why was I being charged I then got a quick response saying oh sorry misunderstanding you don't owe anything no kidding! The office Manager asked if they could make it right so I agreed to go in to have the work done. I went in to get my two teeth fixed and he said he would put a crown on one and he would fix the other with a temporary filling. Only one week later my tooth cracked in half the filling fell out and I was beyond frustrated. When I called my insurance company to ask if I could go to a different dentist they told me that he had billed for a root canal which he never did they also told me that according to the BC dental guidelines sedation is normally charged at a rate of $55 and he had submitted $255 for me. The experience from five years ago to this experience are night and day I literally felt like I was supporting his car payment for the month and that his attitude has completely changed and he seemed less communicative than he'd been before. it shouldn't be up to me to have to guess which he's done! he should be telling me directly and precisely what services he's given me. Today my tooth cracked completely in half and fell out. thank God I've got an appointment with a new dentist for two days from now. Turns out they had messed up a filling that now needs to be redone, but they couldn't find me a time within the next 2 months to do so. Gross incompetence. Don't see how it is appropriate to damage a patient's filling, but then not see them for 2.5 months and leave the patient with pain, inflammation and unable to chew? Have had regular cleanings every 6 months for 20 years with no issues. First cleaning here ends up with acute inflammation and pain, and a damaged filling. If they can't get a regular cleaning done properly, would be very concerned of having done anything even remotely complicated here.

The 1st problem was that they charged me $200 for 'sedation'. That's $200 for writing a prescription for Ativan and sticking a heart monitor on my thumb. I was not impressed. I was also on the mainland for a couple of months and wanted to pay by debit, so they had to wait for their $228. Upon my return, I settled up and apologized for the delay. After that I was informed by office staff that it was MY job to contact Canada Life to determine my coverage for each and every procedure. Of course they didn't give me an itemized list of the work, so I'm not sure how they expected me to do that. Nevertheless, if I didn't have a response from Canada Life by the time of the appointment (4 days away), I would need to give them a deposit of $650. At that point I pulled the plug. It was clear that they didn't want my business. When I called around to other dental clinics, they expressed surprise. Despite what Vic West claims, charging $200 for writing a prescription is NOT common practice and many dentists do it for free. On top of that, they ALL (including Vic West) have EFT systems directly linked to all the major insurance companies, so there's no need for the client to worry about getting estimates themselves. My new practice was able to connect with Canada Life while we were on the phone and tell me exactly what was covered. I think the office staff simply wanted to be rid of me. It worked and I can't thank them enough. I'm now with a great dentist who doesn't overcharge and the staff are more interested in providing service than playing stupid games.

My dentist is wonderful with me as I suffer from dental anxiety when visiting even a dentist office, here my anxiety is a max a one other then that it's a zero!
