We went on the 1.5 hour beach ride with our two boys (ages 6 and 9). It was the highlight of our trip for my husband and the 9 year old, and a close second favorite (after Trees of Mystery) for my 6 year old. It was both boys first time on a horse by themselves (they've ridden horses at parks/fairs but always a short walk while someone is leading) and it was a great first experience. The horses are so well behaved and nice and follow the path and direction. The trail was interesting and exciting enough to keep their attention and I was thrilled to get nice photos of all of us riding our horses on the beach. Thank you Crescent Trail Rides for a lovely experience! read more

We did this trail ride through the redwood forest with our three sons and it was fantastic! The trail leaders were knowledgeable and friendly. They took photos and provided information about the forest as we rode through. The horses were very calm and clearly experienced trail horses. The guides were on time and the ride was just the right length. Would highly recommend. read more

My girlfriend and I were looking for a relaxing enjoyable experience and we certainly received it with Lori and her horse friends. Lori was very easygoing and friendly with just the right amount of fun facts about the scenery we got to enjoy. She was also very helpful on how to handle the horses and it allowed us to feel comfortable riding them. Would definitely come back again ! Thank you Lori, Danny and ginger! read more

Lorie was a very professional, knowledgeable guide. My two daughters ages 6 & 8 and I really enjoyed our beach ride. The horses are trailered in and you meet at the trail head. Fabulous scenery and she shared some great information about the area. I'd suggest bug spray as the one wooded area is thick with mosquitoes. Lorie offered at the beginning and we should have taken her up on it. Overall this experience is totally worth it!! read more

The beach trail ride was everything I had hoped for and more. We saw it all - grasslands, forest, sand dunes and the beautiful ocean. I felt safe and in good hands the whole time. A very relaxed ride with beautiful scenery. The guides were nice and helpful, caring about everyone's safety. Next time I will check out the redwood trails now that I've done the beach ride. Worth every penny. read more

Hubster and I booked the 3.5 hour ride in the Redwoods. Booked the trip about a month before we arrived. We ended up getting a private ride due to the time of year. What drew us to this company was that they do not discriminate regarding your weight. I'm a big girl. Most places will not let you ride if you weigh over 185 pounds. All they need to know is your height, weight, and experience riding in order to pair you up with the correct horse. Lorie was an absolutely wonderful trail guide! We are inexperienced riders as we have not ridden in about 40 years. Lorie brought really wonderful horses for us to ride. I got a lovely draft horse named Ginger, while Hubster got a beautiful mount named River. Lorie gives you information about what you are riding through and answers all of your questions. If you want to ride horses in the forest, on the beach, or simply have a wonderfully peaceful adventure, Crescent Trail Rides is the place for you! We will definitely book a ride with them again. read more

I had a great experience with Lori. Lori's horses are amazing. Then there is a young man, Lestat, the grandson of Mary Lynn ( sorry if I did not get your name correct, message me and I will fix it.) He is so smart and helpful, so was his grandmother. Great team. Lori is pleasant to work with, friendly, and professional. My horse, beautiful Britney. Britney is such an awesome animal. It was as though we bonded, she knew where I would get concerned and be extremely cautious for me. Lestat even mentioned to his grandmother, " Britney is being very cautious when going down the hill." I truly felt safe with Britney and she had a way to let me know she knows. I would love to return for a beach excursion with Britney. Ginger was another horse, grand in size and gorgeous. Reminds me of a Clydesdale. Ginger does not like any horses riding close to her back , she may kick I'm told, but it did not happen to Britney while we were behind her. After a while though Britney had enough of following Ginger and passed her and another horse and passed them up( cut the line lol ). If you are a first time, you may want to ride the a short time rather than 2.5 hours. I recommend this business. Thank you Lori and team! read more

What an amazing tour. Lorie was extremely knowledgeable on everything we encountered on the trail. The horses were very gentle, so even an inexperienced rider like myself could enjoy the ride. Hubby & I decided to do some riding this trip to the PNC and I immediately went to Yelp! After researching several horseback riding listings (through other Trip- advise sites as well), we booked with Cresent Trail Rides. Booked on line, got in with 2 other riding parties for the time , day and destination The horses were matched up w/ our experience and height/weight.I got Bo, new kid to the group, we worked together just fine! & Hubby rode Ginger, big beautiful girl who knew exactly what to do. We loved the ride!- Just what we wanted, our guides took us through fields, woods and the beach / dunes. We got pictures and a great riding experience. For 1 1/2 HR rate$70.per was totally reasonable. We went this morning, after booking last minute the day before! The instructions were easy to follow, the owner had the perfect horses for our size and riding background (none to very little). Excellent ride with pictures! We did the beach ride, and the horses seemed happy and healthy. read more

I booked A 2 1/2 hour trail ride for my 7 year old granddaughter and me. It was a wonderful experience for both of us. The weather was perfect and our trail guide, Lorie, was great. We met her at the designated area ten minutes before our starting time. She was there with the horses saddled and ready to go. we road thru meadows, wooded areas, over sand dunes and on the beach. She is very knowledgeable and patient. My granddaughter led quite the conversation with her on all the facts and information about ecosystems she had just learned and answered all the questions she had. Many other places will reduce the riding time for mounting/dismounting, safety, etc; but with Crescent, the time selected is the actual riding time! it was a great experience and I highly recommend it! read more

What a wonderful experience! Took my 6 year old daughter on a beach trail ride while we were in the area visiting family. It was last minute and turned out to be a super windy day, and I'm so glad we went! Yes, we did get blasted by sand coming down off the dunes to the beach, and I'm still getting sand out of my ears, but oh, it was so worth it! To see my little one enjoy riding a horse by herself, the feel of the sun on our face, the wind at our back, the sound of the waves crashing on the beach, the gorgeous scenery, the beautiful, well trained horses, perfection! I hope we can return next year and ride through the awe inspiring redwoods. read more

The horses, the weather, Ms. Lorie were EPIC! If your looking for a romantic, adventurous, Skyrim like experience on horses through some old growth/ancient redwood trees like my husband and I, look no farther! Lori and her beautiful horsie babies were a perfect match for a 2 1/2 hour ride through morning mist and mystery of the red woods. I also should mention romantic as my husband and I were the only ones on the tour so it was very special during off season in the end of October! Look through our pics for what it was really like for us on our honey moon. She has on par pricing, experience, knowledge, and is well worth the experience! Love love! We contacted Lorie less than a week before our trip to Crescent City, and she was very accommodating in scheduling our party of six. After meeting Lorie at her stables, we followed her a short distance to the Tolowa Dunes State Park. Lorie and her assistant did all the work- from sitting us on the best horse for our level to guiding us on a relaxed but varied trail through trees, dunes, and beaches. Our entire party enjoyed the day and now have fabulous memories to carry with us. read more

I'm a bit late on this but I still wanted to stay Lori is awesome. We were visiting last year and decided at the last moment to see if we could go horseback riding, she had an opening the same day. We were the only ones and we did the mountain route, she was so kind and definitely knows her horses. I would definitely recommend her anytime! read more

Such an enjoyable ride. My husband and I did the coastal ride for a couple of hours. It was long enough to really improve my riding skills (if I had any to begin with) the guide also let us practice trotting on the beach. Scared me silly but I loved trying it. Next time I will ask more questions. There was no real instruction but they keep you safe for sure. Would do again. read more

My daughter is a horse fanatic and so we (sometimes begrudgingly) take her and the rest of our family (of 4) on riding tours. This was the best of the 10 or so rides we've done as a family. Even my son who couldn't care less about horses enjoyed it. Unlike many horseback riding tours we've been on, these horses don't seem to be over-ridden, following the same path 6 times a day, in fact they seemed to enjoy the trip. As others have said, the horses all have their own personalities. We rode through the forest, on the beach, and even though it was summer we were the only ones on that whole stretch of beach that day. My horse actually wanted to gallop, so I let her even though my riding skills are minimal. And as riding tours go, this is one of the least expensive ones we've been on. Highly recommended if you're in the area and want to ride horses on the beach. read more

My husband, two kids and I went on the 1.5 hour beach ride yesterday and it was wonderful! Lori and Jill were great guides and made this city girl feel very safe and comfortable. Fun adventure when looking for activities to do while visiting Crescent City. The owner Lorie was great in scheduling a ride for date and time that worked well for me. The horses were well trained and easy enough to maneuver through the rugged Mills Creek trail ride. I chose the 2 hour ride and that was plenty of time to ride down the the creek and back. The scenery is beautiful and peaceful. There is also a beach ride option you can pick when booking your ride. The prices are reasonable and I definitley recommend this company and giving the the experience a try if you're looking for something fun and different to do in Del Norte county. The only con of the experience was a sore rear end for a couple days after but that's to be expected. read more

Went out riding with Lorie and her daughter today. Had a great time on Zara, Cinnamon, and Jessie. Lorie was timely and reasonably priced. She follows the riders lead as to how much conversation or quite one could want on a ride. She was most accomodating when I emailed and explained that it was a surprise for our 13 year old daughter. I was pleasantly surprised how quickly she unloaded and was ready to hit the trail. Thank for everything Lorie! We hope to see you again next time we are in town. read more
