I'll update this review later, but so far, I've only ever found rock climbing gyms to be this exciting. I really appreciate the wide range of activities and options available here. It's kid-inclusive, disability-inclusive, and offers designated times and spaces to make certain areas safer for different groups. There's also a spa with many services, plus other highlights like a fresh juice and food café, saltwater pools, a rock climbing wall, hot tub, kids' area, online classes, and rotating displays of local artists' work each month. I ran into a family member and my obgyn which was pleasant. I could go on. It also happens to be a place where AMR ambulances are stationed while waiting for calls, which is pretty unique. Love it. The one downside I'll mention has to do with gym members, not gym itself. It is important to share though. One experience we had at the pool last July. While pregnant, I regularly swam laps as part of my exercise routine. One day, I invited friends visiting from Oakland to join my partner and me at CNW. One of my friends is an excellent swimmer and instructor. While we were swimming laps, we noticed repeated, intentional, and uncomfortable staring from a group of men in the hot tub. I asked if they were waiting for the pools or something. We were not breaking any rules, being disorderly, or abusing time limits. The energy was noticeable and felt by ALL of us. Perhaps it's worth noting that some older, Caucasian gym members may prefer an environment that reflects Oregon's earlier history. I'm not saying CNW itself is racist, but it would feel incomplete not to share what we experienced that day.

The baseball park was in use and a few people were wandering the park. Not too busy on a Saturday but there was a lot of nature to see. They have a lot of displays set up so you can see how various animals make their homes. For example black bears and some varieties of birds. Lots of time and money (there are many interpretive signs) has went into this location. It's worth a walk through. The office is open M-F but you can check out the nature outside anytime. Lone Pine Park is the most underserved park in the City. It was built in 2007 and grass was…read moreplanted in the middle. A covered picnic area and a few odds and end trees were planted and left to fend for themselves. One is hanging on the ground in the middle of the park that could use most of its lower branches pruned , but after a few requests for help nothing is done. There's a walking path that is nice. I was told they have a total of 4 employees for park maintenance. The surrounding parks at Kennedy, Spring Street, and Cedar links are in pristine shape with bark mulch around the borders instead of noxious weeds. The areas around the walking path are filled with goat head thorns and dead vegetation. I asked the parks why they let this area go to weed and they said it isn't irrigated. They don't have plans to irrigate or improve this park . There's at least a half acre of unused/undeveloped field space that also is a weed patch. It says there is a playground on site but there is none. They put in a splash pad several years ago but no improvements to grassy areas that are being taken over by weeds. There is a poor tree near the pavilion that is drooping branches on the ground. Help!! City commissioners what can you do do? Take a field trip and compare how this park is cared for vs all others.

It was nice that they started asking us about what equipment that we wanted (ice chests, life jackets, dry bags, oars) after we had already paid making it very clear that there would be no upcharge for any of this. It was a good part of the river with a good balance of challenge and fun without ever feeling like we were in danger. When we pulled our masks out of our bags before boarding the bus with multiple other customer ls the driver of the shuttle said "if you are concerned about masks we can come back and get you". Nobody on the shuttle including employees are wearing masks and they make no excuses for it. I am still giving them 5 stars as this is not important to us however if it was an issue for us we would have had to wait for another shuttle and even then the driver likely would not have been wearing a mask!

Day of we showed up and it's all as their website explains: Paperwork, a cooler, ice, plastic bag and dry bag are provided while they load up your rafts. Bathrooms available. You get your life vest and load up into the waiting van to ride up the river. Your driver unloads your raft, offers tips if you need them (we did!) and sends you in your way. When we reached the end point, we waited for employees to load the rafts and drive us 5 minutes back to our car. There were plenty of guys working and everything was speedy. There rates are fair for a full day of fun. While our raft didn't make use of the squirt guns, others in our party enjoyed the mischief they added to the incredible surroundings. Our party ranged from 4yo to 73. All rapids were pretty tame. I'd definitely do it again and use Raft the Rogue if we do!
