I've been hard on equipment and seen stuff fail and break, but I don't ever worry about my oars. When I started my own river business, having to decide which oars to purchase did not even cross my mind. And now that we entrust and employ other guides to utilize the equipment we purchase, the return on investment is an actual thing that matters. A small convenience store with a hot food window is a perfect 1/2 way stopping point while rafting the Rogue River toward Shady Cove. Inside the store it is a bit cluttered and tight, but they've got everything you'll need to replenish and recharge your batteries. We easily found some chocolate and strawberry milks for the kids and some takis and a decent selection of Mikes Hard in the cooler. Hot foods include: hot dogs, corn dogs , veggie burgers, hamburgers and cheeseburgers ($5.50, double cheese burger $6.50). The food is decent with all the fixings available. After paddling, swimming and soaking up the sun, a good burger along with an ice cold beer seems to taste EVEN better than normal. The best part of it all is all the picnic tables along the riverbank to just sit back, chill and enjoy your grub. Oh yeah, don't forget to use they're old school outhouse up the path and to the left of their store before you go! It's a memorable experience! #thegoodlife

Hidden about 45 minute outside of Crater Lake National Park in the tiny town of Prospect lies Mill…read moreCreek Falls and the Avenue of the Boulders. The space features a short hike with waterfall views and access to large boulders and parts of the beautiful Rogue River. I stopped here on the way back from Crater Lake National Park. The turnoff from the highway is easy to miss. In fact, I missed it myself and had to turn back around in the middle of the road. There's a small parking lot with a highly degraded trail map and a few portable restrooms near the beginning of the trailhead. The hike is pretty short, I'd say less than 2 miles round trip. You start off on a flat path that will take you to a two-way intersection. If you bear left, the trail will lead you the Rogue River and the Avenue of the Boulders. And if you bear right, the trail continues to two separate viewpoints; Barr Creek Falls and Mill Creek Falls. I decided to hit the falls first. The hike is pretty easy with gentle rolling inclines. It's entirely shaded by big beautiful trees. The first waterfall in view will be Mill Creek Falls. These falls absolutely stunning! They were flourishing in late fall. The second set of falls is just a short walk up a some log steps. This is where you'll find Barr Creek Falls. These falls weren't as robust as Mill Creek Falls, but they were still very charming. You'll also get a glimpse of the beautiful Siskiyou forest in the backdrop. On the way back, I headed down the other way toward the Avenue of the Boulders. I've been to the Avenue of the Giants before in Humboldt County, but the the Avenue of the Boulders are a completely different experience. They're comprised of huge boulders, many of which you can climb to get a better view of the falls and the Rogue River that flows down below. Simply one of the most gorgeous sights that I've ever seen! The Rogue River is so comforting and calming. This a total relaxation spot. A place where you can just sit back, relax, and enjoy the view. Enjoy the sounds and sights of the river flowing beneath your feet. It's truly endearing. Who would have thought that something this beautiful could be hidden away in a small town just outside of Crater Lake? It's so amazing and yet still extremely secluded. If you're coming up to Crater Lake, a visit to Mill Creek Falls and be Avenue of the Boulders should definitely be added to your list.

It's a downward hike and you don't notice it until the hike back out, but it's fairly easy and short so it's a great little stop over for a worthwhile view. The map etched in wood in the parking lot gives a good overlook of the area. Definitely head to the right side and see the falls.

At first we were not sure if our puppy could handle being in a boat. After few hours, she was doing fine. So we decided to do a whole day instead of half a day. We absolutely want to use his service to fish salmon and steelhead in July or August.

This beautiful state park is just north of the town of Medford and runs along the southern bank of…read morethe Rogue River. Though the river is known for its rapids up near Grants Pass, this section is mostly placid with one section of faster water that the little fishing motor boat we saw had no problem with. The dirt, mostly single track trail runs fairly close to the river, with access points for fisherman or fun like throwing rocks into the water. There were plenty of birds to view. We saw one mountain bike and and some sections of the trail had clearly been travelled by horses. There was one groomed loop that was an interpretive trail, with numbered stations but no info. It just may be too early in the season to get maps at entry since the booth was unmanned when we entered the large parking lot. A good time was had by all, including the dogs, though they came home with DOZENS of ticks so be careful out there.

Once we paid and entered the Park we noted 75+% of the grassy/picnic areas were unusable due to being showered by sprinkler system - thus all visitors were uncomfortably squished together in the few dry spots available. The watering system went on-and-on for about an hour and a half. Thus a giant F/U shout-out is due the OR State Park workers who are either too stupid, too lazy, or just plain so inconsiderate to be bothered to handle their park maintenance chores like watering outside of the middle of the afternoon when the Park usage is at it's peak. And note there are two sets of restrooms in the Park - both apparently permanently closed. Instead there are portable units with no running water. So your $5 entry fee is paying for what, exactly? Too bad this place is so poorly managed. It could and should be a community asset. Instead it's just another example of poorly run government. BTW - when the Park employees did come around to finally shut off the spinklers (some of which watered the parking lot as much as the grass) - they didn't bother to do anything else (like check to make sure folks paid the entry fee, or pick up any trash, or bother to check if patrons were complying with Park Rules re alcohol, etc). What a waste of a resource...

What a fun labyrinth of different kinds of hiking trails, ranging in degrees of difficulties…read more There's something for everyone. We came here with our two friends each of them having a little one strapped to their backs. Our dog Momo was also part of the group and she particularly loved this walk. At the time we were her in late spring (end of May), we were able to see still lots of wild flowers, but my friend mentioned that Renee were even more a few weeks earlier. The trails are mostly leading through forest area and so you're in the shade most of the time. We took a trail that led us to the peak and we were able to enjoy lovely views over the valley. Note: there's lots of poison oak here. If you have small kids with you, remind them to be vigilant.
