Several side trails to water but not a great view of the falls. When leaving Gold Hill before you reached the freeway entrance had a roadway under a bridge. I was able to follow that road until we reached the falls. I'm giving it a 4 star since no restrooms at either location that I was able to see. Also not able to access Falls safely.

This beautiful state park is just north of the town of Medford and runs along the southern bank of…read morethe Rogue River. Though the river is known for its rapids up near Grants Pass, this section is mostly placid with one section of faster water that the little fishing motor boat we saw had no problem with. The dirt, mostly single track trail runs fairly close to the river, with access points for fisherman or fun like throwing rocks into the water. There were plenty of birds to view. We saw one mountain bike and and some sections of the trail had clearly been travelled by horses. There was one groomed loop that was an interpretive trail, with numbered stations but no info. It just may be too early in the season to get maps at entry since the booth was unmanned when we entered the large parking lot. A good time was had by all, including the dogs, though they came home with DOZENS of ticks so be careful out there.

Once we paid and entered the Park we noted 75+% of the grassy/picnic areas were unusable due to being showered by sprinkler system - thus all visitors were uncomfortably squished together in the few dry spots available. The watering system went on-and-on for about an hour and a half. Thus a giant F/U shout-out is due the OR State Park workers who are either too stupid, too lazy, or just plain so inconsiderate to be bothered to handle their park maintenance chores like watering outside of the middle of the afternoon when the Park usage is at it's peak. And note there are two sets of restrooms in the Park - both apparently permanently closed. Instead there are portable units with no running water. So your $5 entry fee is paying for what, exactly? Too bad this place is so poorly managed. It could and should be a community asset. Instead it's just another example of poorly run government. BTW - when the Park employees did come around to finally shut off the spinklers (some of which watered the parking lot as much as the grass) - they didn't bother to do anything else (like check to make sure folks paid the entry fee, or pick up any trash, or bother to check if patrons were complying with Park Rules re alcohol, etc). What a waste of a resource...

Sparse wildflowers at this time. Most of the time you're in the shade. And you'll be happy because half the time you're climbing or half time headed down. Seldom flat. Often curvaceous and fast curving close to those enchanted trees. Worth the hike or bike. Trails well marked! Blue, green or black diamond. Something for everybody. Even so it is best to carry your smart phone Trail Forks or All Trails app to ensure you're headed in the right direction. Can be confusing because it is a maze of trails!

9/19/26: The Oregon…read moreCaves National Monument was so cool today! (In both the literal and figurative senses....it was 44 degrees in there...) I bought tickets online (recreation.gov) about a month ago for the discovery tour. It was a straightforward drive to get to the Illinois Valley Visitor Center in Cave Junction (good place to stop for info, bathrooms, and to buy tickets if you haven't already). From there, it took a full hour to get on the sometimes narrow, often twisty (but very well-maintained and paved) road that led to the parking lot. We got there early and had time to walk to the main visitor center (about 1/8 mile from the parking lot) and see their well-designed interactive cave display. I checked well before our tour time and they moved us up into an earlier tour spot - nice! We had time to eat lunch (brought with us) and change into long pants and warm jackets before meeting our tour guide. Ranger Ellie was awesome! Not only did she know about the cave's history and geology, she mixed in a ton of good humor with the information and gave us all time to look at the cave features we were passing while keeping us moving along. She was also great about telling us about how to navigate the cave's paths, stairs, and low-clearance areas safely. Though I'm 6'1" and had to duck a lot, Ranger Ellie prepared us so well throughout the tour that my head remained unscathed! The cave itself is truly awe-inspiring. Incredible formations throughout, pretty well-lit, and the pathways were all paved and well-marked. Every staircase felt sturdy, too, so even climbing stairs up into high places felt safe, even if the going was slow going up and down. (I'm glad I wore hiking boots.) It really was something to see amazing formations and an underground river traveling right through the mountain up close. It was cold in there (44 degrees, like a fridge!) so I'm glad I took my winter coat. The whole tour was about a mile, but seemed longer and had lots of steps. Even as a tall person, there were places for me to stand at my full height at all the tour stops. Once we were out, my friend and I walked the mile-ish loop around the top of the mountain at the cave's exit to take in the views - HIGHLY recommend doing this after. Tips: - Stop at the visitor center in Cave Junction for road info / bathroom break ahead of time - plan on needing a full hour to get from Cave Junction to the parking lot - and drive SLOWLY - There's a 1/8 mile walk from the parking lot to where you check in for tours - get there at least an hour before your tour - It's COOL / COLD in the cave so dress accordingly! I've wanted to go here for years and it was SO much better than I was expecting. I look forward to coming back and trying the candlelight tours and some of their other hikes! Great job to the staff there who keep everything so clean, well-maintained, safe, and fun.

You can enjoy the scenery without having to do a long hike, which made it perfect for us after a long day of driving. I also love how easily you can walk between the park and downtown. Definitely one of the highlights of Ashland and worth stopping by even if you only have a short amount of time.

You can even see deer walking around or grazing in the park from time to time. It's conveniently located right next to the city center, making it an easy place to visit while exploring the area. The Sunday market is also worth checking out. Local artists and vendors set up booths, and you can find all kinds of cute and unique handmade art and crafts. Such a lovely park--definitely worth a visit!

The views from the top, especially on the north side, are amazing. There's plenty of shade on the way up, but be ready for scorching sunlight on the plateau. Be sure to bring plenty of water and wear sunscreen, and it's quite bearable. Read up on the geology. This is a circa 9-million year old, 300-feet+ thick, andesite lava flow. On the north side you'll see a perfect example of how a think plateau of lava erodes. Nothing much grows on the top, the the soil is uber rich in the adjacent valleys.

We came here with our two friends each of them having a little one strapped to their backs. Our dog Momo was also part of the group and she particularly loved this walk. At the time we were her in late spring (end of May), we were able to see still lots of wild flowers, but my friend mentioned that Renee were even more a few weeks earlier. The trails are mostly leading through forest area and so you're in the shade most of the time. We took a trail that led us to the peak and we were able to enjoy lovely views over the valley. Note: there's lots of poison oak here. If you have small kids with you, remind them to be vigilant.

Other playgrounds in the area seemed sketchy so we found this one and gave it a try. We were pleasantly surprised by how clean and well maintained it was. The playground is amazing and has so many different components to keep the kids occupied. FYI there is a $5 park fee and it's cash only. They should probably make the system an electronic system since many people don't carry cash anymore.

Awesome disc golf course. 18 holes, variety of terrain. Some short, some really long. Some through…read moreand around trees, some over ridges and ravines. I played early July and almost all of the streams and ponds were dried up, but come spring, I could see this adding an extra layer of difficulty to this already extremely challenging course. All holes are very well marked and offer two tee boxes and two or 3 hole placements. Hole 13 in particular was the longest and the pin placement wasn't on the sign, it must have been an extra 250' past the long pin. There is an old dam/bridge/wall that has a bunch of cool graffiti on it adding to the ambiance of the course. Nice flowing river on the south end of the park. Overshoot 18 and your disc could roll down into the water and be toast! Costs $5 for a day pass, well worth the price of admission!
