Buyer beware. I hired Lane from Outside the House (OTH) for a large residential project…read more(installation of 40+ trees) and unfortunately this was a bait and switch experience. The project was quoted far under the competition (RED FLAG #1) but the conversation and intent seemed genuine at first so we decided to support a local small business. By the end of the project, we were hit with a final invoice 30% over budget, to be surprised without warning financially hurt our family. This was just the beginning of the extra expenses needed to finish the project. Furthermore and to our surprise, OTH cannot help with any of the other critical elements of tree planting, e.g. drainage, irrigation, fertilization, etc (RED FLAG #2). The project was performed in late December without any research into the topography and the bed design created a dam that flooded come spring requiring us to outsource a team of landscaping professionals to install multiple catch basins / french drains to prevent all trees from drowning. More financial stress for our family. Sadly, we lost 10 trees dying due to improper planting (OTH installed out trees shallow, provided zero bed prep, and bad location of certain tree species). OTH became hard to get ahold of when we needed them the most. We let them know we had pressure from our HOA to fix the mess (RED FLAG #3). What is most disturbing in this whole mess is OTH not warranting the work they did and blaming us for the issues they created. Now we have holes in our deign, significant additional expenses, and not to mention stress and confusion. OTH is a poorly run business and we wish we had not selected them for our project.

We hired Brentwood Dirt Works for a French drain installation, and it was a frustrating experience…read morefrom start to finish. They lacked punctuality, and the project dragged on far longer than promised. Because they undersold the project and rushed to finish, we have had to hire additional vendors (landscaper, plumber) for another ~$7,500 to fix the aftermath of the project. This included grading and leveling our yard, pouring a new slab of sidewalk, and planting new grass. Additionally, we had to replace the sewage ejector pipe because the Brentwood Dirt Works team nicked it during the project, and their improper repair resulted in a footlong clog in our plumbing system. The main water line into the house was also not properly sealed which resulted in water in our garage. Before hiring these jobs out, we first tried to go back to Brentwood Dirt Works, but they were defensive, immature, unapologetic, and took no accountability. In fact, they wanted to charge us to fix the property damage their team caused We ultimately decided it was safer to pay reputable vendors rather than trust them with our home again.
