There is a posting not to feed them because they can get sick. I think someone must have fed one of them because he was lying pretty much lifeless in the grass. Po thang! There's lots of camping areas, group picnic sites, a boat ramp, disc golf, walking trails (um negative for me), equestrian camping, a dining hall, swimming area, fishing pier, parking everywhere and lots of BUGS!!!!

We went on a Monday afternoon, it wasn't busy, less than $20 for my family to enjoy the day and beat the Texas heat. Has a blob (giant pillow on the water where one person is at the end and the other person jumps down and catapults their other into the water), several diving boards, volleyball and basketball in the water and many picnic and beach areas. The swimming hole is a man-made spring fed lake. There's a couple diving boards (one is a high dive), a setup net for water volleyball, a BLOB and plenty of extra room for swimming. Plus I was told they are going to add a couple big slides for next year. Beautiful scenery and lots of places to get shade (with tables) for picnics or cooking out. Bathrooms are nice with a small shower (shower could use a little upgrade but it was suffice for its purpose). Friendly owners and staff. Overall great place to spend a summer afternoon. I highly recommend a trip for the family! Tips: bring life jackets if you plan to do the blob. You can not do it without one and they are not provided (although you can purchase one for around $15). Careful walking in the grassy areas...there are stickers. Camping is only aloud for RV's. Daily admission for swimming is $4.50 (free for two and under) and $2.50 to park. AND the park is dog friendly, which is a bonus for many.

No ATM's etc. There was a metal box it seemed, but I wouldn't deposit any cash into that. They need a better means of collecting the $7. maybe at the entrance? Maybe they are working on that. (smile) Overall, it was a great experience and I did catch some buffalo fish. My neighbors caught a nice channel catfish using cut bait.

This was a really great experience and another check off of my bucket list even though the…read moreexperience was a little mixed because I went in the second week of November in 2025 and nobody was there other than the people that lived there permanently because he said that I came at the wrong time so I was kind of walking around the place butt naked by myself, but other than that, I can't fault him for that. it was still an awesome experience to be able to walk around extremely, completely nude and not have anyone freak out and call the cops so maybe one day I can get My Wife to go one day and we can both experience it together, but everybody should experience this at least one time in their life.

Merry Christmas! Didn't want to waste the day by staying secluded at the apartment all day. I…read morewanted to go hiking and to enjoy a cigar next to a campfire. All accomplished...woohoo! The only drawback is I had to rent a campsite for the day in order to get a fire blazing. Kind of sucked since I wasn't planning on spending the night. Oh well! It was all still worth it as I supported nature and TPWD. The hiking trails were challenging and invigorating. Thankfully they were also very clearly marked. They were a challenge with all the natural rock and rock cliffs. Penitentiary Hollow was the main attraction of the hike. Wow, Lake Mineral Wells rocks with awesomeness! Please camp here!

The vibe was very chill with large & small families, friend groups, and couples chillin' and relaxing around the lake. Lots of good cooking, grilling, and feasting going on, with a ton of varieties of music playing. The swimming was excellent and easily accessible from the shoreline and beaches. Tons of boats, pontoons, and jet skis out, so everyone was enjoying themselves orderly and having a great time! Definitely a fav go-to spot for the future!

Relaxing stay! We had never stayed at a Army Corp facility before and were pleasantly surprised…read morewith this place. Lots of shade. The beach area was a short walk from our site. The people running the campground were friendly and helpful. The only thing that was inconvenient was the distance to the water spigot from our rig (approx. 40ft, thankfully we had an extra hose) and there is no sewer access at individual spots. There are however a few stations within the campground to use before you leave. There were also a lot of people with young children, younger adults partying, and the occasional car going through with loud music blaring but for the most part everyone seemed to respect the quiet hours (after 10pm.) Overall, I am happy with our decision to spend a few days here and would do it again!
