We enjoyed a delicious BBQ by the water while taking in the beautiful views. The park is peaceful, well maintained, and perfect for spending quality time with family. The campground is clean, easy access to I-35, and quiet, despite close proximity (300yds or so) to the interstate. The hook-ups are are well placed at the sites, I've been in some places where they are a long stretch and power cable would barely reach, I didn't stay long enough to check out all the amenities, but there seems to be activities on the property and 2 nice dog-runs for the pooch. This is my first stop at a KOA Campground, and I won't hesitate to use them again. Nice place.

I've camped here twice now (once in Sept and once in Oct) and can attest that the state park is…read morejust as great both times. Both times, you are greeted right at entrance and given an introduction by some really nice staffers. Regardless of whether you're a newcomer or not, they will give you a map and help orient you around the area. The site that we chose (Dogwood Canyon again) was clean and nicely spread out from the next site. We don't know if any staff members come by to check on the place after check-out but every time we've come now, the site is pretty clean and clear from any litter. Unfortunately this time around, the toilets weren't that well stocked with toilet paper so yes, bring toilet paper while camping! This should be for best practice anyways. :-) Other than that, we did have some noise disturbance in the evening from rowdy kiddos - it doesn't seem like anyone really patrols around to keep parties in check like some negative Google reviews may have suggested, who knows! The hikes were great, I would rate the blue and orange trails to be pretty mild-moderate. There are some slopes and there are some spots you may need to "climb" a bit but nothing too bad! I absolutely love having this park to get away to from the busyness of the city. Makes the $75 annual pass so so worth it (otherwise, it would be $7 per person, per day for admission)!

Bring the family or come solo. This is a smaller part of the Ray Roberts park so it is a very safe feeling here. Fish, hike, bring a picnic basket! I'll note up front that this review is for the Stewart Creek Shoreline Trail. The parking for the…read moretrailhead is just before the pay-gate to enter the rest of Stewart Creek Park. We did not venture further in, so I cannot comment on the facilities there. The shoreline trail runs back between the subdivisions and the lake, away from the park. I think you could just walk across the road and access a connecting trail that leads into the park; however, you might have to pay an admission fee even a a pedestrian. I do not know. We just followed the shoreline for a mile or so. The scenery is sometimes pretty along the lake and some of the homes / back yards can be interesting as well. We passed several individuals and groups during our walk. The trail is not secluded (often passing groups of homes) and seemed quite safe. If you are in the area and want to take a walk away from the traffic, this is a good budget choice.

Relaxing stay! We had never stayed at a Army Corp facility before and were pleasantly surprised…read morewith this place. Lots of shade. The beach area was a short walk from our site. The people running the campground were friendly and helpful. The only thing that was inconvenient was the distance to the water spigot from our rig (approx. 40ft, thankfully we had an extra hose) and there is no sewer access at individual spots. There are however a few stations within the campground to use before you leave. There were also a lot of people with young children, younger adults partying, and the occasional car going through with loud music blaring but for the most part everyone seemed to respect the quiet hours (after 10pm.) Overall, I am happy with our decision to spend a few days here and would do it again!

You can't swim far since boueys limit your swim, but it's good enough to get some laps in. Set up a tent/umbrella, bring sand toys and lots of sunblock, then let the kids go crazy. There's also a really neat playground within walking distance and a walking trail. Plenty to do with the little ones. As long as your expectations are low, you will be pleasantly surprised.

used to go almost every weekend. not since they have confirmed multiple alligators as residents…read more Always parked at soccer fields and walked in so didnt have a vehicle fee. lots of swimming areas including a swim beach. rocky sand and clay so not a sandy beach. usually dirty (being honest). always saw lots of dead fish and birds on the shore which brings a nice...smell. signs say NO GLASS but of course there are broken bottles everywhere as nobody enforces the rule. decent sized playground down by the swim beach. has a ring swing (think giant pastic tire) bathrooms by playground and have drinking fountain. Boat docks. fishing area (NOT BY SWIMMING AREA FOR SAFTEY) great photo spot for taking pics disc golf. camp ground (for $) have secure bathrooms that campers get a code to access so no wanderers throughout the evening. On site warden lives on lake park. so you are good for emergencies. campfires allowed depending on season/burnbans and in designated areas only. not to shabby.
